NBA 2K13 News Post

2K Sports has just released the written breakdown of all 31 NBA 2K13 Signature Skills.

Quote:
Q: Why create these Signature Skills for 2K13 when you already have several attributes in 2K12?

A: We felt that our existing attribute and tendency system quite didn’t lend itself well enough to various situational moments that happen in basketball, nor did it help identify very specialized players. Outlet passes, winning charge calls, staying hot through in-game breaks, etc, are just a few areas where our attributes system failed to give you what you need. We’re now able to dig deeper into these situations to allow players stand out where they’re most known. Let’s take shot blocking for example. LeBron James is well-known as the best chase down blocker in the league. In 2K12, when you were in a chase down situation, LeBron was unable to block the shot from behind as much as we’d like him to because he had only a 60-ish Block attribute. With the inclusion of the new Sig Skill, Chase Down Artist, we’re now able to give him the types of skills he needs to embarrass the unsuspecting shooter, without having to artificially raise his Block attribute (which would then allow him to block shots in areas he’s not known for). There are reasons like this for every skill created, which is why we’re bringing this feature to you for NBA 2K13.

Here is a list of all 31 signature skills.
  • Posterizer
  • Highlight Film
  • Finisher
  • Acrobat

The crossovers are not arbitrary man ... sheesh.

All you're doing in the first place is twirling a stick, so what if they added an extra 2-5% increase to its effectiveness ?

Ankle Breaking is part of basketball. If you get caught, just man up. It sounds like y'all are scared you might get embarrassed.

I'm going to come off as a douche but so be it, I'm not worried about ankle breakers because I'm confident in my on-ball defense, which will only be improved because physics actually works this year. I want to get crossed by the cpu, because I want to see them use isomotion or do a move that I can say "damn" to, that's basketball sometimes you are doing the embarrassing and sometimes you get embarrassed.

I'm not saying Colt you suck as a 2k player because I honestly don't know you, I'm not singling you out just everyone that is concerned about this sig skill, you got to step you on ball d game up. And we have to stop ignoring the fact that this has a counters, lockdown defender and pick pocket.

Again I know how I sound like a douche but this is just my opinion.

5-6 times per NBA season means what? After how many crossovers done and it happens only 5-6 times? That is a pretty low percentage man.

To put an end to this, I know how video games are. I know how 2K is when it comes to catering to casuals. I think you all would be crazy to think this will be implemented properly and with good taste given their track record.
So much unneeded anxiety about a game you haven't played yet. Well, there's always Li....nvm.

If you look at the clip of Blake Griffin dunking on Kendrick Perkins, Perkins looked like he was about to cry. Personally, I probably wouldn't react that way if I were dunked on my Blake Griffin, but I'm not controlling myself in the game; I'm controlling an NBA player.
I agree 100% Even though I doubt it's going have an off toggle, I wish that it would for the people who want it to be all about them, the User. As you say, for me it's more about the NBA players and being able to represent ebbs and flows in their physiological and psychological states The intangibles, i.e., unquantifiable parts of the game have never represent in any solid fashion like they will be now.

Iverson is going to be feared in this game. Can't wait.

Smh. I dont people understand what he means. He fears that the animtaion is so powerful that great on ball d wont make a difference. Live had it like that with the weapons before where good d ( and sometime good o) was negated by weapons.Nothing was worser that going for a dunk on live 06 (last gen) just for yao ming, ,completely out of position, get a block cause he had a blocking weapon. Now sure you can say that was Ea but hey it isnt like 2k hasnt had broken moves/animations before so whos to say this wont be broken?

# 391 Conda @ 09/03/12 02:57 PM
He's actually shorter than that, but his skill is what counts. I can see it now:

Iverson

Ankle Breaker
Finisher
Acrobat
Shot Creator
Interceptor

Why are you comparing this to Live? And we haven't even played the damn game. It's lockdown defender can neutralize any offensive sig skill. So a lock down defender with the improved physics and good stick skills I don't see this being unfair.

Closer and Defensive Anchor look lethal.

If I have 2 defensive anchors will the boosts stack?

We havent played the game yet but in 2 games that came out previously(live 07 and a pf) some the traits became exploits. Hey i dont think it will break the game but im been wrong before. Better to have that attitude and be pleasantly surprise when it works besides being disappointed when it does become an exploit.

So you'd rather assume the worst, instead of being optimistic. OK, you're the "glass is half empty" kind of person. Nothing wrong with that.

Let's think about this more critically for a second. Who do we usually consider a cheeser and an exploiter? Someone who does the same thing over and over again because it's effective, right? And that action is usually something that can be duplicated over and over again, right?

Well, when considering the Signature Skills, guess what needs to happen first? The person must actually be skilled to know how to execute them and have the wherewithal to recognize the situation. Many of the Signature Skills rely on particular situations to take place before that skill can be activated. That means having the basketball IQ and presence of mind to recognize when such a scenario is occurring. If we already consider cheesers the lowest common denominator in terms of basketball IQ, why are we giving them the benefit of the doubt that they will be intelligent enough (from a basketball perspective) to know how to exploit a Sig Skill if they can't recognize the situation?

You'll have cheesers trying to do chase down blocks in the half court and getting fouls for being overly aggressive because they are trying to do one of Lebron's moves at the improper time. You'll have cheesers trying to ankle break all day not realizing that you're guarding them with a pick pocketer or lockdown defender. They'll try to do an outlet pass with a Fast Break Starter, but you already anticipated that and had your men get back on defense in time. I don't know about the rest of you, but for the first time since like 2K8, I feel that superior basketball IQ will win against even the best teams online. Of course, that remains to be seen until the game drops.

Lol you havent played online much if you think you haved to be skilled to use exploits.
