NBA 2K13 News Post

2K Sports has just released the written breakdown of all 31 NBA 2K13 Signature Skills.

Quote:
Q: Why create these Signature Skills for 2K13 when you already have several attributes in 2K12?

A: We felt that our existing attribute and tendency system quite didn’t lend itself well enough to various situational moments that happen in basketball, nor did it help identify very specialized players. Outlet passes, winning charge calls, staying hot through in-game breaks, etc, are just a few areas where our attributes system failed to give you what you need. We’re now able to dig deeper into these situations to allow players stand out where they’re most known. Let’s take shot blocking for example. LeBron James is well-known as the best chase down blocker in the league. In 2K12, when you were in a chase down situation, LeBron was unable to block the shot from behind as much as we’d like him to because he had only a 60-ish Block attribute. With the inclusion of the new Sig Skill, Chase Down Artist, we’re now able to give him the types of skills he needs to embarrass the unsuspecting shooter, without having to artificially raise his Block attribute (which would then allow him to block shots in areas he’s not known for). There are reasons like this for every skill created, which is why we’re bringing this feature to you for NBA 2K13.

Here is a list of all 31 signature skills.
  • Posterizer
  • Highlight Film
  • Finisher
  • Acrobat
  • Spot Up Shooter
  • Shot Creator

Something that probably happens less than 30 times in an entire NBA season now has the potential of happening at least once per NBA 2K game is cheesy and immature.

I don't think you understand how high of a number 30% is when it comes to THIS.
You so worried about it than make sure you use a "Lockdown Defender" to neutralize him. There problem solved.

If you play incredible on-ball defense and have enough knowledge to know when someone is just going to iso you to death, I'm pretty sure you can play up on it to make sure you don't get your shoes crossed off...regardless of the 30% increase.

Of course. That goes without saying.

But honestly, lockdown defenders are often times the ones that get got because of their aggressive style of defensive play.

I just think 30% is too high.

You do know that falling from a crossover won't be a voluntary action?
If I am playing great on ball D, nothing is going to stop me from falling. If the game wants me to fall I will fall. I have no control over that.

you shouldnt have to use a guy with a special sig skill just to stop a guy from breaking your ankles

I like what I read and that Stamina will play a part. I also like that there will be rules with them.

The only thing is being locked at 5. I dont want players with a ton of them, but I am pretty sure a player might not have the skills they should have.

The only thing I want to hear is how they are obtained and is it ratings related. Does a player have to have a certain rating to have a skill.? And can they be switched before games.

In my over 1000 quick matches in 2k12 I have only stumbled or fell from a crossover maybe 10 times. So if there is a 30% increase only on players with the ability(assuming they are not being guarded by a lockdown defender) then I might see 15 or 20 this year. Sounds good to me.

I think this will be a step up for 2k and really help make 2k13 more of a chess match.

lol, but now you're just arguing semantics because the lockdown will neutralize anyways, this isn't the real NBA. Lockdown is the counter to ankle breaker, and it WILL work. No need to worry about aggressive style of defensive play.

You do have control over who you're using and your own ability to defend an iso hoarder.

If you are playing great on ball D with a good defender, hopefully someone with one of the sig skills for defense, the isomotion that leads to a lethal crossover isn't going to happen.

Period.

At all.

If there is a maximum effective range for the Ankle Breaker skill, then all should be good regarding the 30% increase of a player getting crossed up.

It was already an RPG with the use of attributes. Now they're just making it more streamlined with the use of perks (signature skills).

This is going to be the NBA 2K that revolutionalizes the series.

Ok, if you don't want to use a "Lockdown Defender", then you would have to play smart defense and accept that you may get broken down. And rely on your other teammates to help when it happen. Just like in real life. Strategy and timing is your key to success with these skills and also your ability to counter these skills.

I wonder if sig skills can be acquired/lost over time in association.

Do the skills trigger automatically?

yes I believe so, as long as you meet the criteria needed for them to trigger.
