NBA Live 13 News Post

It looks like NBA Live 13 is coming out as a digital release after all and not a full on $60 AAA title if the report from IRB Gamer today is to be believed. This seems a pretty big admission that Live simply isn't ready for prime-time obviously, which also obviously seems to be the case. What a mess.

IRB Gamer has the scoop:

Quote:
"It’s been almost 3 years since we’ve released an NBA title,” the EA rep said. The tactic is to get feedback from gamers. However, it’s a bit risky to not run it as the AAA title as thedecision has been made to NOT put the game on disc.

Live will be looking at a price point around $19.99
,” equaling out to 1600 Microsoft Points or $20 PlayStation Network card.

What do you guys think? Smart decision by EA? Does this mean Live isn't up to par quality wise?

Sound off!

Church! I've been calling for a DLC update to Live 10 for the past 2 years. I'd pay twenty for that before I'd pay twenty for the crap they are throwing at us.

Fanboys ate that "pre-alpha" line up and regurgitated it everywhere.

Smart by EA. Can be a huge pay off. Most people who don't think 60$ is justified for a yearly sports game. 20$ is three times less than the other game and could sway the average buyer who wants a basketball game. If it's a solid game that has a couple of modes and replayablity then I can acutally see this game going for over a million sales combined.

Or the equivalent of 10 $2 scratch off tickets.. It is baffling though they did say strange marketing tactics. They might even start charging microtransactions to dlc to make it a full $60.. who knows..

I would love to see a documentary about this whole ordeal. It would start with the meeting that made Mike Wang decide that he had to get his *** back to 2K Sports pronto, and it would end with the meeting where they decided that this would be a 20 dollar marketplace title. It would be better than Ken Burn's The Civil War.

If true, EA is simply saying: "Our product isn't worth full price". At least they are honest. It's the first step toward making a better product (ideally).

Speechless. What a joke.

I'm not paying anything for a game EA was bragging about months ago. They kept saying they will compete and dethrone EA. They just wasted our time and are treating their fans like sheep.
How much more feedback do they need? They have forums here and at EA with tons of feedback. Heck, they have Scott Ghallegar from the SimNation there. EA doesn't think a sim game will sell this why they never pushed hard. Even though NBA 2K sells well as a sim game , EA is scared to shake it's arcadey style.

If this game sells well as a 20 dollar game who or what's to say they don't stick to this formula?

if the gameplay and online is decent with stats upgrade, maybe this is a good thing.

I seem to remember ESPN NFL 2K5 and ESPN MLB 2K5 being top tier games. At $20 each, they were the two greatest steals I've ever invested in.

I wouldn't say Live is in that same category, but they are simply doing what they have to. If there is any way for them to get back into it, they need to try and get any kind of word-of-mouth they can receive.

what everyone is missing is that nba live 13 was never suppose to nor was goin to compete wit 2k13..nba live 13 was ment & still is a buzz game to get live back on the basketball gaming community radar. it was never goin to compete wit 2k13...i been saying 4 the longest that the real nba live game was goin to be in 2014. live wasn't goin to come out the door and compete. ea didn't even get a full development cycle for live 13. but ea also new that skipping another year would of been foolish tho. drop the game as a dlc somthin fun.
release add on an what not... then put 2gether a full high quality product that will compete. they'll get a full development for next second.. ea put themseve in a positon to compete 4 next season. their nuth they could of done to compete know. 2k is just way way way way to much....

Wow the game hasnt dropped and youre already mentioning "next year". Give this guy the prize for the magic words of the day... "next year".

The difference is that back in 2005, 2K's titles were quality games sold for low price, and not some experiment-product like EA's. Now you have a game that is sold for low price because it's just not worth it. I don't believe it'll sell well either way.

I'm waiting till we hear official word from EA on this but if it's true.....they have made it real easy for me to stop shelling out money for all their games.....no more madden, no more Fifa, no more NHL......Done! I wrote to Peter Moore after elite went bye bye and asked that they keep support going for Live 10 in the form of roster updates and DLC packs... Well at least we got roster updates for a year....but it's all about ea making money and not hearing the fans opinions.

I have owned every basketball game ever made since the Atari basketball....this might finally be the first one I actually refuse to buy.

Well prepare to add a 3rd game to that list - Live 13! Live 13 will be a huge steal because EA has already guaranteed that all season long they will update their game. That's huge. For $20 to provide that type of support to the game is huge.

I wouldn't say Live is in that same category,

Of course you wouldn't. The great 2K made those 2 games you mentioned, and the evil EA Sports is making Live 13. Because ya know, when 2K releases a game for $20, it's great! But when EA does it, oh my, how shady of them! They're trying to rip people off! The game is unfinished/not worth the full price! LOL!!!

but they are simply doing what they have to. If there is any way for them to get back into it, they need to try and get any kind of word-of-mouth they can receive.

That's one area I can agree with. The word of mouth and $20 price tag will mean huge sales for EA once people realize it's actually a good game. I have no doubt that that will happen too.
Responses in bold!
