Does it bother anyone else that you can't run a replay after a play has been completed?

I vehemently dislike both next gen football offerings. I play the demos every year and they never get better (I bought Madden 08, and 10, returned both the same week). During the PS2 era I played 5-8 seasons deep on both NCAA and Madden, so when say vehemently dislike, I really, really mean it.

For some reason (Infinity, influx of cash?), I've been really excited about this one.

• The half-time highlight reel is horrible in the demo, all it shows is random scenes and QBs celebrating. What about the three touchdowns the teams scored?

• Running game finally feels good again, although it still doesn't really feel like foot planting is going on. After so much NBA 2K you just expect momentum to have a little more impact on movement.

• In general, this game animates pretty poorly. The videos of the Infinity Engine had me hyped up initially, but seeing it in motion it's a lot of the same old stuff it seems like. Almost half the tackles I saw looked like two players operating independent of each other, these guys just can't wrap their arms around the ball carrier.

• The camera direction during cutscenes/replays is consistently terrible at worst, annoying at best.

• With 58 seconds left the game upheld a game-tying touchdown by the 49ers during which you could clearly see both feet were out of bounds, but the player's hands caught the ball inbounds. Iffy spotting there.

• Commentary isn't very contextual; Simms called me out for running a play on 1st & 10 a minute into the 2nd quarter that didn't get me a first down (it gained 9 yards). Later he said he wasn't sure I made the right decision to bring in my kicker to hit a 28 yard game-winning field goal with 11 seconds remaining and no timeouts.

...All that being said, I did have a lot of fun with the game. It's the first time in this generation that I can remember where it felt right playing FS the way I always used to on PS2. The crowd and annoucing team acted like nothing extraordinary was happening, but I ran an 81-yard drive with David Carr (Eli Manning's jaw had been broken on the drive just before the 49ers scored that non-TD) that included two 30 yard passes to Hakeem Nicks along the sidelines in just 58 seconds, snatching victory from the jaws of defeat (or overtime). It's the first time I can say I genuinely enjoyed playing a football game in a long while, but I'm still not sure I'd purchase it especially without draft classes this year.

Yeah this is just unreal. Tackling is a fundamental core of any football game and it has gone into the twilight zone with the IE. I am happy they are implementing RTP but the execution must be better than this for a major release of the only NFL video game in town. I expect a lot better. This is something that over the months I play the game will wear me out probably. It is exactly what wore me out with 12...the pinball tackle animation...now we have just mind bending physcially impossible tackles.

However the game is a lot of fun on offense.....and playing a few more games on defense I have figured out to not even bother being a DE/DT at the snap and I am starting to play FS/SS and switching to the closet man to the ball whether that is to make a sack, or tackle. It is the only way to enjoy defense. For 20 years I have played DE/DT and with this demo I can't...your sucked into blocks and can not shake free...I have tried the swim and club and it never works.

Overall.....graphically it is a nice upgrade, presentation in regards to audio and play by play a huge upgrade, gameplay.....same old Madden again save for the new outstanding passing system.

7/10 overall - and it would have been much higher if the IE had been executed better.

My impressions of the Demo are as follows....the improvements are significantly substantial. I am almost blown away by how much more smoother, robust, and organic this years Madden is. This is coming from someone who has completely flamed EAs efforts in the past, cried for the rebirth of 2k, gave Backbreaker a horrible game a serious shot, but this is far and away the best Madden ever.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but this is mine. I spent all day at work listening to mixed reviews on the demo and I'm not sure what I can really say bad about it.

Passing game is great I'm leading receivers and actually throwing them open. I'm not sure how people are struggling with this but I'm tearing it up. You can visualize passing lanes now and the alleys behind LBers and in front of the safeties is sick and most important realistic. Its adding a whole new demension to the passing game that has been lacking before. Thank you for fixing those super human LBers patrolling the middle of the field..now they actually have to read the play and react to it to make a play on the ball.

Running game is very organic and has a realistic flow to it. If you read the play right and hit the hole it has a very nice feel to it. The infinity engine has really improved this. There have been a few quirky moments but they are not nearly as many as everyone has been saying.

Catching receivers are running and catching in stride, over the shoulder, reaching with their hands instead of having the ball sucked into their body. I'm seeing some sick catches but I can't wait to get more into it.

OL play is improved there are some bone headed wtf moments where a defender isn't blocked or comes free but if you played football on any level this actually happens. Things you need to understand is every pass or running play will not develop just like its drawn up...its more of a rough guideline for where you should go or be there are people who do not realize that so it is unrealistic to them when it happens.

DL this is probably the weakest area but it is still a serious improvement. My Dlineman are able to disengage and put serious pressure on the QB. They are coming off blocks a lot more realistically as opposed to magically how they did on previous Maddens. Now instead of coming off a perfect block and making a tackle for a 2 yd loss they are coming off and grabbing and possibly getting dragged for 4 yds as it should be because they are grabbing at the back.

LBers this may be the most improved aspect of the game. I'm a diehard Eagles fan and well you know our LBer situation but...playing with P. Willis is crazy. The defensive movement is so much tighter and controlled it feels like they got rid of 90% of the running on skates feeling. When you play as a LB it feels like you are actually running down hill and attacking the play. When I played with the Redskins you could feel the difference right away from L. Fletcher to P. Willis. Two good LBers but you instantly know Willis has better ratings, agility, speed etc. The difference wasn't only confined to speed Willis feels more fluid in his hip movement and change of directino. This wasn't always apparent in previous Maddens These players feel different and that is a welcome addition.

CB/Safeties they all appear to cover better but there are some moments of super speed burst to break up passes that should have been completed. Also, you may have a DB on a island against a receiver but by the time the ball gets there every DB and two Lbers are there to make the tackle or break the play up.

Return game is sick you are going to have to focus on this it is now officially 1/3 of the game. If you are kicking to someone like Ginn don't put the controller down to take a quick drink, pay attention, stay in your lanes and make the tackle. Kick away if you need to hang the ball do whatever but special teams is a part of the game now.

This is far from a perfect game..make no mistakes it still looks and feels like Madden but it is better. The infinity engine makes for some great moments and some quirky ones as well. I haven't seen anything to off the wall yet other than players tripping over each other after the play but I kind of like that. Its worth having that so that I can have these great gang tackles.

The lighting is bad but I'm almost 100% sure that is only going to be that way on the demo.

The camera is pretty bad. It needs to be closer and needs to be able to capture the action and still see most of the field. I think the final game it will be a little closer but the demo is zoomed out a little far. I would like to see a slight zoom once someone has the ball or maybe a real small pan to capture the action and make you feel like your in the moment. Madden struggles to actually make you feel like your in the game.

The presentation, commentary, and on the field sound is much improved. It is not as good as 2k but I don't think any game ever will be face it they had Berman and Suzy and ESPN as soon as we heard they music it was on plus their half time show was phenomenal.

After playing two games on the PS3, I love the CPU A.I. QB's, Manning was picking apart my defense, and RG3 was struggling against me at first, till I made the mistake and switch to bump and run coverage and he burned me deep a few times. The passing feels great, but I see it will take some time for me to get use to throwing the deep ball, got pick off a bunch of times. The running games feels nice!! My only beef is the instant replay system so far, this took a step back to me. I am impressed by the demo, I'm real curious now to see how the final version will look.

# 925 NDAlum @ 08/15/12 09:37 AM
A few positive things I've noticed:

#1- You can finally stuff runs up the middle
#2- The passing lanes have opened up a bit. I felt like I could make a few passes that would usually be caught/knocked down by the CPU
#3- You do get some really great animations with the new engine
#4- New catching animations are great

A few negative:

#1- Blocking is still whacky with the OL making some terrible decisions. WR screen: I have an OL set up perfectly to take out the defender coming to tackle me from the front and the OL goes behind the LOS to block somebody chasing me.

#2- Deep routes take too long and the DL gets on you so fast. It was hard to let a route fully develop before getting sacked.

#3- The crazy infinity animations (mainly post play)

#4- I don't like the kicking meter.

ONE non-demo related question:

Can we use sliders in user/user games this year?

I want to say I heard we can but would love confirmation.

# 926 Gosens6 @ 08/15/12 09:42 AM
I'm loving the game this year. If the retail is any better than the demo then I finally got my football fix since Madden 07 for the PS2.

I've stopped worrying about the OS issues that are brought up every year and i'm just playing a fun game of video game football.

I love the psychics, the audio department did a bang up job and the graphics are superb.

I'm having fun, and if there is a slider set that comes out this year that enhances my fun, then I can't wait. I'm more hyped for CCM than ever now, and this game needs to hurry up and come out!

Kudos to EA for finally making another good football game I can enjoy, and kudos to myself for just letting myself enjoy a good football game.

I'm hoping the replay thingy is fixed by retail as hopefully, they couldn't put it all in the demo. I'll scream if it's different than that, inexcusable.
hey roadman! nice to see a familiar face around here.
glad your still here

its funny.. i actually love everything about this game right up until the actual gameplay...

they did a fantastic job with presentation now compared to years back, but the in game graphics, players, and control are just bad..

If we were back in 2004, then I may of liked it.. but now in 2012/2013? no way man.. we should just have better by now.

# 928 swanlee @ 08/15/12 09:54 AM
Played it for 5 mins, bleh

Thought last years version felt better, players have little weight to them, graphics look to be a step back, not noticeing anything significant about player animations, commentators are better.

Can't wait for next gen consoles sick of this gen of Madden

# 929 C the Lyte @ 08/15/12 09:56 AM
The overall mix of perceptions in this thread is insane.

I actually enjoyed it and can't wait for August 28th.

I had a blast with Orakpo on defense. I could get off blocks with no problem.

# 930 mirrored32 @ 08/15/12 09:57 AM
It feels solid! They key players graphics went way too fast when they are displayed IMO. Commentary is good. As a DEMO for GAMEPLAY, I like it!

# 931 kjcheezhead @ 08/15/12 09:58 AM
I only played one game of Redskins/Seahawks(me) normal speed setting on ps3. My impressions:

The game is a mess on these settings. The player movement is way too twitchy, the blocking is impossible to read (you just have to pray the defender isn't going to instant shed when you get close. I thought the NCAA demo had somewhat better blocking than this game.

Defensively the run commit creates a crazy Tecmo style d with everyone flying the direction you picked and blowing up blocks with ease.

The infinity engine feels random. I trucked a lb straight on with Matt Flynn and watched him crumple like he just got run over by a 250+ lb back but other times it played out ok. Mostly I felt no difference with who I was using just like in previous Maddens.

I wish I could've tried the new field level camera with the demo but doesn't appear to be an option.

I guess I'll try slow speed tonight but this game is just way to arcady for me. I'd give it a 7-7.5 right now and I'll probably be passing this year. I thought Madden 14 might be the game with improved line play but now I think Madden needs way more than just that.

# 932 KspadeTheProspect @ 08/15/12 09:58 AM
I think this could be the best Madden in years. The physics do make for some ******** animations but I thought people thought of that when they were asking for physics. It needs a tuning but VERY playable!

I really really think this game will be best played on Slow or Very Slow. I'm already making a habit of using very slow.

# 934 StL_RamZ @ 08/15/12 10:05 AM
Another great thing i saw...rice caught the ball and got hit in the air and he shrugged it off and landed on his feet and kept running for about 4yards and got tackled

I was like "WOW!!!! Amazing"

NCAA has that, no greater feeling that that mixed with no one else around and a 10 yard jog to the endzone.

I will say I'm mixed on it. I say same ol madden, but there are new twists. Some moments make me go wow, other times I'm just bored out of my mind. I applaud them for laying a base for the game, even if its late in the series. I'll probably pass this year or wait until black Friday sales.

True. It looks unbelievably arcadish and unrealistic when playing it in the standard speed...

Madden 13 First Impressions• Commentary, Nike Uniforms.• Grass, Players & Field degradation.• IE new animations.• Start-up menu fading affect (Post launch disc). The Negatives on this DEMO.1. RG III Helmet – Dreadlocks interactions. (It looks as if the lower bottom part of the player model head-dreadlocks is overlapping with the helmet.2. Head Coaches missing their Headsets. (How are they communicating with theirs OC, DC, ST staff? Who’s running the show here?3. Game speed is way to fast. i.e WAS kick return man Banks who’s cut from the team. Is a track start that should be running next to UBolt in the next Brazil Olympics? Even on very slow this man out runs everyone on the field or is Seattle special teams unit that bad at angles.4. QB throwing animations look off. I.e Matt Flynn underarms the short throws maybe by design. BTW this guy looks nothing like Matt Flynn who backed-up Aaron Rogers and every time he gets on the field his puts up big numbers> I believe that’s what the commentator starts with in the QB intro.5. I.E. I have mix feeling about this new feature players fall flat on their faces after the pile up, More alarming are the odd body positions that would cause any men except very few individuals that are very flexible to have a serious injury. The way that the bodies bend with full equipment on their way to ground is way too rapid, it would break bones and everyone would be on IR.I mean your facemask gets caught on your lineman jerseys or elbows, Why is it on every play someone’s is stripping the ball away on the way down, even holding the RB or cover ball trigger I mean holding it with pressure the CPU still is able to jolt your arm backwards while the body is going down with guys falling right on his exposed arm. It needs more work period.(Crash Dummy Affect) looks unrealistic to me.6. Sideline CC, their is a complete team or just a few players on the sidelines, until they magically appear when you look again. As the Camera moves they start to pop up. 7. The game looks animated; there still a lot of players, whose faces look nothing alike, even have a cartoon feel to it. Starters get announce via a ad but they don’t mention anyone but that guy looks like a football player if there are non super start or EA favorites players. RG III celebrates every first down btw.8. Also there is a problem with the challenge system (again their going to have bad calls) I.e. I pick off Matt Flynn with Deangelo Hall and ran it back for a TD I dove in an excessive celebration pose in mid air but matt Flynn tackle me while in mid air ruined my hold TD dance thing but the booth review it and called it back. I mean I was in shock because I had not stepped out of bounds. Since the demo has no replay I could not study this more but something’s wrong with the engine. I will test the PS3 demo next since its 2016 MB vs Xbox 1.82 GB. Took my Xbox using a DSl connection 1.5 hours wireless to download the demo, On my PS3 took 5.5 hours wireless to download while I slept lol. I am hoping that when I get home from work today I push that start buttom on my PS3 controller and activate MD13 demo on my station and maybe it would be a better experience than the cartoon like of the Xbox version of this years game. If the demo is incomplete two weeks pre launch are they going to release a patch on launch date possible, But theirs things wrong with this first impression. I dont have a good feeling about this years features. I did play madden 13 last night after my first blowout of the Seattle Seahawks on All-pro way to east 24-3 RG III is too easy to run/pass with...lol I recall last years demo also had bugs which they launch disc had and then they had to update the player roles being removed hence the no edit this years version.. Easy work boys... EA needs better program testers I mean i could of told them everything that was not right with the demo minutess after playing 1 five minute QT. If the demo has issues this late in their post production /pre launch stage smells like trouble.
BTW back to RG III player model. Does he really have short arm sleeve , or high socks. From his preseason debut which i was impress by his got normal socks and a complete white left hand glove not the standard glove EA, So can ya start to fix this via a weekly roster update in hopes it doesnt take all season to notice the wrong equipment on this new first round rookie. Also Cam Newton wears HIGH SOCKS , and a white wrist band white under shirt in the AWAY Jerseys, On the HOME Jerseys & ALT Blue he then prefer to wear all black wrist bands and under shirt . Last years this was incorrect as he has low socks & blk wrist bands on all the time. Simple stuff like this makes a huge diffence.

This is exactly how I see the IE. I feel the game looks broken along with sloppy. This engine while at some times adds something cool to look at overall it gives the game a sloppy and clumsy look. Comical to a point especially after the play is over.

I personally feel the IE was not ready to be implemented into Madden. It really give me the impression of a game made by a first time developer. I apologize if I offended anyone but the IE could have waited till 14. There is still a lot of work that needs to be done with this engine.

I did not enjoy the feel of the game play. Player movement looked and felt arcadish.

Once I popped the demo in I really felt as if the game regressed and not progressed. I understand they added new features but the game play is at best below average.

I know more seem pleased with the demo than those that don't, but Madden 13 is not solid for me. I feel others that enjoyed the demo might feel this way once the novelty wears off.

I appreciate that they added a physics engine, but that doesn't automatically give you happy gamers points . Especially when it is implemented way before it is ready. After experiencing the demo I felt the announcement of the IE was more for hype. I feel that EA felt the pressure to announce something big that would bring fire and life back into the Madden community, which we all know was very much needed. It worked because many were hyped (Me too) and were shocked to hear this kind of news, but that hype will die down quickly once the games novelty wears off.

This was my first impressions playing the demo. I will give it more time to see if anything changes.

I feel once the game play patch is released NCAA is going to be a solid football game.

Anyway, I played about 8 games now and I'm loving it. I think this is the best madden yet, and its only the demo.

CONS:
-Gameplay in General feels more realistic. Yes there is stupid tackles everyonce in a while, but there is also some added stuff that really makes it realistic (the way the running back runs into the lineman, or trips over laying down defenders)
-Passing game in general is improved, you can pass left or right sideline without fear anymore compared to m12 when the middle was your safe zone. But you do have to be alot smarter with your throws, and you can actually time routes just like the NFL, basically what i mean is the CB doesnt 'know' the route, and you can throw it as the WR cuts without the CB just jumping in front of the ball.
-You can really tell the difference in QB's. I played all four teams and Eli you feel more comfortable and the ball actually feels like it releases quicker. With Alex Smith or Matt Flynn you can tell they arent rated above 90. The team in general you can tell which is better and which is worse, in m12 you could play as the Browns and still win 15 games in your franchise if you did the right plays.
-Rushing actually takes skill, you have to watch the holes and watch your lineman to get a good run up the gut. Makes running so much more fun!
-Announcing is a great relief, M12 announcing was horrendous. Hearing whatever his name get excited over like a time out, then be blah for a TD would piss me off.
-THE JERSEYS ACTUALLY GET DIRTY
-when theres a fumble the ball can actually be kicked by a players foot
-Actually feels like there is life to the game, with the mixture of announcing and crowd noise, and im sure there will be studio updates during the CC. excited for CC!
- the ball actually flew high in the air in the middle of the field when manning got drilled on a play! Was sort of siked to see that, thats rare.
-Had frank gore do a stretch to the right, someone got ahold of him, broke the tackle but spun around and back a couple yards and changed direction to the left and got a 20+ yard run.. That was the most realistic play Iv'e seen yet. Doesnt happen often in the NFL but that was so neat to see that actually happen in a game, especcialy with Frank Gore because he has that happen more than others.
-Also had Moss jump over a defender to grab the ball
-The game just flows so well, everything works together great.

CONS:
-Sometimes stupid tackles
-Lighting is a little bright in the middle of the field but its not terrible
-This is stupid but it bothers me, seems like some jerseys mainly in the 10's the numbers are like spread apart like the number 18 looks like 1 8 on their jerseys. Small but it bothers me idk why.
-Needs some sort of halftime show.. i mean atleast a stat or two for crying out loud.
-Menus are sort of hard to read for your stats at the end of the game, yellow background with thin black writing, sort of hard to read for me idk about you guys.
-Was on Defense and the opposing team was in two minute drill but never called the timeout, had 3 left clock was at 0:09 and running and never called. Sure that will be fixed though.

Yeah there is a few stupid tackles and players falling over towards the end of the play but come on, this game cant be PERFECT, you guys would still complain! lol Overall I'm pleased with the game, a set of sliders would take this game to even another level. cannot wait for it to come out!
sooo...... you tell ppl to stop complaining about the game....then you have 2 lists of "cons" about the game! haha... i know this is in all likelihood a typographical error, yet the sheer timing of it couldnt be more ironic. way too funny.

you sir....just made my day
