2K Sports Invites Fans to “Uncover The Cover” of NBA® 2K13

Facebook application to reveal clues about cover for
next installment of top-selling and top-rated basketball simulation*

New York, NY – June 20, 2012 – 2K Sports today announced the launch of the “Uncover The Cover” Facebook application, which will engage the 2K Sports online community and reveal some big clues about the cover of NBA 2K13, the next installment of the top-rated NBA video game simulation franchise twelve years running.

The Facebook application will start with the clues concealed behind puzzle pieces. In order for pieces to be removed and the clues to the cover revealed, fans are encouraged to tweet about NBA 2K13 using the hashtag #UncoverNBA2K. The more tweets that are made containing the hashtag, the more pieces of the puzzle will be removed.

Fans can check the NBA 2K13 Facebook page to see the current state of the image and the effects their tweets are having in real-time. Once the cover is unveiled, fans will be able to download the final poster art file as wallpaper.

The Facebook application represents a significant departure from the traditional 2K Sports cover reveal, and will leverage the company’s sizable social media following. For the first time in the company’s history, fans will play a decisive role in announcing the cover.

Fans can begin tweeting #UncoverNBA2K today and view the app’s progress in real-time on http://2kgam.es/UncoverNBA2K.

Who do you think the NBA 2K13 cover athlete will be?

If the athlete who is on the cover determines whether you buy the game or not, instead of the content that's on the game, you've got bigger issues to worry about.
I don't know man. I was in line at midnight to a packed Gamestop buying 2K11 and only about ten out of the 250 people there bought whatever the other game was releasing that night (I forgot lol). Jordan on the cover had a lot to do with that.

Exactly. You should see some people these days... Their lives are enveloped in hating these guys. It's borderline scary.

Nope.

Melo isn't near #2. Not anywhere near

It's -

Lebron
Kevin
Melo

Melo also could be debatable even for the #3 spot.

I like Kevin Love in that spot, as we aren't just naming SFs.

The cover athletes play a role in the sales. This year it looks like by going with Griffin, Rose and Durant you are going with popular players that have an appeal to casual fans and hardcore fans of the NBA.

Rose: Has the most popular jersey sales in the NBA in the US. Humble no off the field issues and last years MVP appeals to casuals and hardcore fans

Griffin: Has the 9th highest jersey sales in the NBA int the US. Even people that don't think he is the best PF in the game have to realize he is a highlight show again appealing to casual fans.

Durant: Has the 8th highest jersey sales in the NBA in the US. Durant appeals to casual fans and hardcore fans. Humble and dominant scoring leader 3 times in a row.

These guys are some of the most popular and probably have the least amount of haters in the NBA little risk to sales

Exactly! With Live coming out, they want all the casual fans they can get.

Yes, let's avoid putting the 2012 NBA Finals MVP that people just cannot stop talking about on the cover.

That's a terrible business maneuver. Especially considering we have other people for the cover.

Look, do you agree that Lebron isn't as universally liked as Durant, Rose, and Griffin are, by the casual fan?

2k needs people with the biggest amount of approval. If they didn't have competition, like last year, it would obviously make sense. But since Lebron isn't universally liked, and these guys are, for the most part, it makes more sense.

I'm developing a headache, so I must rant to feel better...

People are NOT going to skip out on this game because of who's on the cover guys. C'mon. I wouldn't buy a Lebron tshirt because it's only him on the front of it; THERE ARE ALL THESE OTHER NBA PLAYERS IN THE GAME DESPITE WHO'S ON THE COVER. That's the point you guys are missing. I remember people buying some ugly Jordans just because they were Jordans--yes. But that's ALL they were: Jordans. Basketball games have all the other players in the game! If Jordan is on the cover, it's not just Jordan's game. Am I making any sense here? I mean I seriously have a headache.

I mean, what do you guys do with your covers? Do you set them on top of your tvs while you play your game? Do you sleep next to them? Do you put it on the table when you eat? They're COVERS! I HATE Duke, but I bought College Hoops 2K7 and JJ Reddick was on the cover--but I didn't care. I played the game; I don't play covers.

A lot of people didn't like Tim Tebow when he was in college, but that didn't stop the masses from buying NCAA Football 11. Geez...

Never discount the power of hate though. Some people genuinely don't like the Heat and James and will go to extreme limits to show how much they dislike them. That would mean not buying games featuring said athlete or team. I am not saying it is a major factor but think like this do you think the game would sell more in Cleveland, OH with LeBron on the cover or Derrick Rose? I haven't seen so much hate on a player from people on social media statuses from people who are not rivals of the teams and from teams that are not even in the playoffs.

I feel you bro--I do. And the last thing I want to do is to come off as a jerk so please don't take it that way. I know more young people buy this game than old, but there is still some hate for Jordan in Cleveland--he was a Cavs killer; but people who remember still bought the game. It's a game COVER. If Lebron was on it, a Cleveland shopper might just buy it, play as the Cavs, and try to beat the champion Heat.

I think what people are failing to realize is that it wouldn't be like the old school games. If LBJ was on the cover, it wouldn't be Lebron James Basketball 2013--it would be NBA 2K13, with all the NBA players in it. It's DIFFERENT when you buy ugly Jordans as someone mentioned because it's ONLY Jordan; this game has all these people in it.

Hey--I'm not an exception: I'm the norm. I LOVE college basketball, and I LOVE UNC...but I bought Coach K Basketball; I bought College Hoops 2K7. I HATE Duke; I can't watch all that flopping, jersey grabbing, etc that the Blue Devils do. So I played the game; I didn't play with the cover and throw it up in the air and look at it and put it in the passenger seat in my car when I went out.

I don't like Lebron, but I like basketball video games. I don't have to stare at the cover because it's not his game--it's 2K's game.

Of course he's special. You don't get drafted #1 for nothing! It takes someone like Kwame to make GM's dreams come true.
