Madden NFL 13 News Post

While most of the Madden NFL 13 news out of E3 seems to be positive, we now have something that could turn into a very big issue. Especially if you enjoy roster editing or use edited rosters created by others.

There seemed to be some confusion about edited rosters. More specifically, if edited rosters could be used in Connected Careers Mode.

I sent a few messages to Justin Dewiel, Community Manager at EA Sports earlier this afternoon and received the following responses.

Quote:
You can edit rosters outside of CC. But you can’t bring them into CC.

If you start a new CCM career after one of Donny Moore’s releases you can start with that new roster.

Basically, we have to rely on Donny Moore's roster updates, throughout the season, instead of grabbing updated rosters from the many talented roster editors out there, or simply editing on our own.

Jean Adams, Art Director for Madden NFL 13, mentioned the following, in his presentation blog, which was posted in late April.

Quote:
Mixing and matching the new NIKE uniforms, cleats, face masks, sleeves and other yet to be released gear will keep me and many gamers out there in edit player for hours.

Hmmm. I somehow doubt many gamers will be playing around much in edit player, if we can't use the edits in anything other than a Play Now session.

Josh Looman, Madden NFL 13 Senior Designer mentioned on Twitter the following glimmer of hope.

Quote:
We just ran out of time. It will be in there at some point in the future.

Does he mean Madden NFL 14 or could the Madden NFL 13 team add the editing ability in a Title Update or fix the issue before its August 28th release date? I think I speak for everyone, when I say the sooner, the better.

I'd love to. I'd also love to edit all my rookies as I draft them and give them my own personal touch from an equipment standpoint and it sucks I won't be able to do that this year.

But is it going to completely destroy my franchise to the point where I can't even play the game anymore? Not even close.

This is what I would like to know .... Can u import the CC team in its own fileto be used for play now games or any other non-CC

Yeah I agree with that. I'm not saying I wont have fun with franchise, but it is just a really annoying thing, and complications could make it less fun than it really should be.

Even though I no longer care about having accurate rosters, changing numbers and the like, it was a unbelievably bad design decision to not allow people to bring an edited roster into CC. No changing of numbers and equipment inside of CC was bad enough, but this, as has been mentioned, is like going back to the early 90's.

Yes, I'm putting words into the mouths of the development team members, but they're essentially saying, "We got this, You don't have worry about weird or wrong numbers on players, off kilter equipment, erroneously rated players, we'll take care of it."

The reality is that no D team is ever close to being on top of things that much. **** happens. They're showing an unprecedented amount of confidence in their own abilities to really get it right, and we the User have been put totally at their mercy. They made the wrong call here.

It's crazy seeing the way some of the people in this thread overreact. I understand being upset about it, I do - but jeez. Some are going way overboard and are acting as if Josh Looman is camped out in their closet telling THEM what not to wear.

Yep. The only thing I've seen with the generated classes that's annoyed me is RBs/WRs wearing no gloves, but that's not a HUGE annoyance since there are some odd players here and there who don't, but just personal preference.

that is very frustrating news indeed. hopefully like you said Steve they can get this in a patch. i would rather not wait till 14 to have that back in.

The problem is, take the number of people on this forum who are upset by it and let's assume everyone who voted on that CC most disappointment poll was at least somewhat upset by this and divide that 351 by even just the first week sales of Madden 12... 351/1,400,000... 0.03%

If you guys really want to make your voices heard, you're going to need to do a lot more than complain (and promptly get blocked) on Twitter. It's going to take letting other Madden players who DON'T frequent sites like this or aren't chomping at the bit for any E3 info about the game know about what's been left out. If it's really as big of an issue to the community outside of this über-serious demographic then the cause to get editing in will gain momentum. But really, gotta be more creative and professional about it than whiney Twitter posts (yes, I realize I'm generalizing and am sure some people have made mild-mannered and respectful comments but I'm afraid at this point even those get lost in the shuffle due to the "hate tweets" they are surely getting)

First thing I do when I buy this game every year is try to make players as accurate to real life as possible (fix the things that people get paid to do but don't do). Everything from the players' ratings, equipment, and positions. If my changes can’t be used for the entire game that a paid $60 for, I don’t need this game. If EASports has to limit customization of the game then they need to also limit the price of the game. In a time where technology is steadily increasing, EASports continues go in reverse.

In CCM mode, is there some kind of award system? Like unlockables?
I can see locking the editing, so you can not achieve items you did not
earn legitimately. Maybe they do not want you to make it easy to
get XP points...

With all the positive news this definitively is not good..

I was on all hyped for this gr8 looking game, now I might only rent it, sad day

What's funny is how forgiving we've really become and accepting of our lowered expectations.

Right now our biggest gripe is that we don't have the option or ability to spend all of the time we normally do to fix all of the ratings, equipment, and other roster mistakes in the game, rather than worrying that those issues exist at all.

Connected Careers is offline franchise. And online franchise. And superstar mode.

All the negativity. If we have to rely on the roster updates that Donny Moore does, then I am holding out hope that he does indeed revamp his updating and possibly gets it 99.99% correct when the season starts. It may take another year, but in the end, I do believe that CC will be an amazing game mode.

Yep..he is also the same guy who actually had a functional franchise mode during his tenure...and with all those things you said, not ONE of them was as big of a deal-breaker as THIS is for ppl...Never once..do i recall do i remember even the actual owner of these boards have to make a PSA announcement concerning a issue..stating what can actually be a dealbreaker for ppl with NONE of those things you pointed out...so yeah i feel this "little" thing beats out those by MILES...

You can have all this great new things in, thats fine Madden 13 will prob actually be a better playing game than 12..but when you TAKE out the meat n potatos of what makes a mode such as Franchise so important..which is playing and controlling EVERY/or almost aspect of your team or others as you see fit..then yes..i tend to miss the guy..who knew not to F that one thing up. )

You're either Ian or trolling. Lets not get crazy here. Loomans doing great things, I think he just underestimated how big of a deal the things missing are to us. With that said, give them back now.

I'm surprised at how many people view it as a deal breaker. The controlling multiple teams I think I understand more than the others. I think it's showing that a lot of people couldn't care less about actual gameplay which I've always thought was viewed as the number one issue. And while that franchise may have been fully functional, up until last year, franchise was absolutely atrocious.
