Madden NFL 13 News Post

While most of the Madden NFL 13 news out of E3 seems to be positive, we now have something that could turn into a very big issue. Especially if you enjoy roster editing or use edited rosters created by others.

There seemed to be some confusion about edited rosters. More specifically, if edited rosters could be used in Connected Careers Mode.

I sent a few messages to Justin Dewiel, Community Manager at EA Sports earlier this afternoon and received the following responses.

Quote:
You can edit rosters outside of CC. But you can’t bring them into CC.

If you start a new CCM career after one of Donny Moore’s releases you can start with that new roster.

Basically, we have to rely on Donny Moore's roster updates, throughout the season, instead of grabbing updated rosters from the many talented roster editors out there, or simply editing on our own.

Jean Adams, Art Director for Madden NFL 13, mentioned the following, in his presentation blog, which was posted in late April.

Quote:
Mixing and matching the new NIKE uniforms, cleats, face masks, sleeves and other yet to be released gear will keep me and many gamers out there in edit player for hours.

Hmmm. I somehow doubt many gamers will be playing around much in edit player, if we can't use the edits in anything other than a Play Now session.

Josh Looman, Madden NFL 13 Senior Designer mentioned on Twitter the following glimmer of hope.

Quote:
We just ran out of time. It will be in there at some point in the future.

Does he mean Madden NFL 14 or could the Madden NFL 13 team add the editing ability in a Title Update or fix the issue before its August 28th release date? I think I speak for everyone, when I say the sooner, the better.

Deal breaker for me. I was on the fence until this announcement.

That's a shame this was looked at as minor, because I need to be able to at least edit player positions, especially if they still have in place the totally unrealistic minimum position requirements.

I cannot understand why this is the case. If I don't even have XBox Live, I can't buy the game store factory, edit rosters as they happen in real life, and play a franchise on my own with my own rosters? Even offline in whatever form Franchise comes Offline? This seems beyond ridiculous to me...

NCAA 13 would've been the solution if it had the affinity engine. You can edit anything you want. If NCAA 13 had it I wouldn't even buy madden this year. Maybe that's why they kept it out of NCAA 13.

I think I'm just going to rent madden this year to try the gameplay. There is still NHL 13 that looks awesome. Give anything to tiburon they will fine away to take away a feature and reintroduce it as a new feature.

It's always something with them.

Makes me wonder what's the future of roster editing in NCAA 14.

I really don't think that's in danger because they can't name roster and have accurate equipment plus it's so hard to have accurate roster for NCAA, it has to be done by the users. If they took that out you can say goodbye to the NCAA franchise because a lot of people would abandon that series.

There is reason why they are one the most hated company in the US

I know I will never buy an NCAA game without the editing options they have today....The editing the community does to get those rosters more realistic is half the reason I have bought it.....without it the series would be dead to me

So what's the point of creating a user roster file at all if the user can't place that roster file into any prolonged game mode and/or taking it online? EA Tiburon surely had to know from their metrics in NCAA Football that people use modified rosters to start careers the vast majority of the time.

As to not being able to even edit a player's jersey number, even Madden NFL 12's feature-lacking online franchise had that. Does Madden NFL 13 at least enforce NFL position number assignment rules? M12 did not. I don't want to draft a bookend offensive tackle and have him wear #1, then not be able to change it.

So it looks like we can no longer update Madden each spring with roster moves (Trades, FA, etc) and draft picks.

That is one of my favorite things to do until the Next Madden comes out

I doubt we ever see an answer to this question, but I agree that it is perfectly legitimate to ask.

And to think that just a week ago people were praising EA/Madden to the high heavens.

When will we learn.

I guess a work around would be to retire as the coach and pick each player you want to edit and play as them and edit them and retire and go back to being he head coach. Assume that is possible

Anyone want to go out on the conspiracy limb and say they did this for further incentive to buy the next years game????

You can always play MUT if you want to try out next year's rookies in a competitive gaming scene, good sir! Now just put a few thousand Microsoft points on your account and buy some packs, and you're all set to enjoy a sneaky peak at next season....

...okay, it's not quite that level of consprisaah, but it certainly adds a sense of obsolescence to the mode, intentional or not.

Clarification: you can still make that roster, you just can only use it in Play Now games.

wow u can't even edit jersey numbers either? when did this come about? i may not even buy 13 if more and more things keep getting taken away whats next they gonna take away option to play game all together and just have to watch cmp play each other? and for looman to say this is small to what they added is a fricken joke this is a HUGE part of madden theres tons of ppl who edit there rosters and share them etc.

I think Madden Developers will quickly realize that they made a pretty huge mistake with this. Franchise mode no longer has replay ability because of it. EA will probably put it back in for M14 but use it as a "New Feature" like they think we're a bunch of idiots.

"This year we're bringing you total control with your team's players and roster in connected careers!"

...
