Madden NFL 13 News Post

When I first heard that the franchise and superstar modes were taken out of Madden NFL 13, I was livid. Why on Earth would you destroy the offline gamer’s dream? Not cool EA, not cool.

But after getting my hands on the game, I know exactly why they “ditched” the modes. Connected Careers is basically the three modes combined into one, creating what seems to be the most immersive football gaming experience to date. You may not understand it – I didn’t at first – but in time you will.

Okay, so it's confirmed we can only control 1 team in Offline Career Mode. Do we, as with NCAA, have the ability at least to play other games on the schedule if we wish?

wow a lot complaints about madden not shocked since no one ever will be happy

first off they laying the foundation on madden since this is new foundation
and they dont want add something in the game that will not work

so they taking the time im dispointed in no fatasy draft but ill live and know
it be back hopefully next year but they trying lay the foundation for the franchise and get everything working how it should work

this the first time im excited for madden come out unlike year in past i didnt care if it even came out web and josh looman they changing the football seriers around

for once they not saying gimics like protak or locmotion or gameflow etc
this team trying be real and not having gimics do i expect game be perfect but i just hope game play better then games in past and hope here on out game will improve every year

Personally, my excitement is through the roof right now. But I do sympathize with those who want co-op franchise on the same console or whatever. So, serious question (because I honestly don't know):

How many TeamBuilder teams are you allowed to download on NCAA? The most I've ever gone with were 6. Maybe a work around for you would be to put the NFL teams on NCAA and then you can have your regular offline dynasty experiences (true, no FA or draft, but it's perhaps better than nothing):

Granted, they wouldn't have accurate faces and no infinity engine, but considering how passionate some here are about playing with their brother or their 80 year-old father, maybe this could be a work around to at least get some of the things you want.

Don't flame now, I'm just throwing out ideas

My only question, and sorry if this has been answered, what if I start a CC with say Matt Ryan. I play two seasons with him and decide I want to be a coach. If I do that will I have to retire Matt Ryan and have him taken out of the game?

I scanned the thread pretty quickly but didn't see the answer. Thanks.

I'll answer most of these questions through out the weekend. To those asking questions that are answered in the article...tough luck

Matt Ryan would still be in the game, and would still have any advancements you'd given him.

The use of the word "retire" is a poor one. It means you are retiring from that specific career, not actually retiring the player (even though it says "retire player"). With all of the confusion, maybe there's time for EA to chsnge the text label for that in-game.

Edit: beaten to it!

Huh?...not going to get in a internet grammer debate with you but if you look at what I said it was in quotations meaning it's reflecting what has been said by others. Furthermore I asked at the end how much longer are we going to say "wait until next year". I for future reference am not a fan of anything that takes away full customization from a player period. While Franchise mode wasnt all we wanted it to be it did allow us to customize in any way we wanted wich was a EA mantra at one point. To me CC is not fully functional and therefore shouldnt be iomplemented until it is. Again while player editing and controlling rosters and multi-franchises is a small issue with you for a bunch of others it simply isnt and this is the reason we are getting into these debates. Like I have asked before just what is so great about CC that allows EA to take out a franchise mode and all its important features?. Especially since at some point you can install CC with all of the important features of franchise mode..No contradiction here man..lets move on!!!

Can I see where he said this, because that is really my only complaint. I like to play as my favorite team (Eagles) and then as a rebuilding team and I would hate to have to make another profile just to do so.

So I can still play a regular offline franchise with the Eagles and do the off-season (staff changes, free agency, draft, etc) the same way right? Will any of this change with Connected Careers?

If you are a coach, you have TEAM goals. Meaning you might have to get so many yards per season, etc. If you are a PLAYER, you have specific goals to your player. Such as if you are a backup HB (such as in the video I watched) you will have a goal of like 1,000 yards which is ranked below the goal VERY HARD. Since as a backup HB, you probably will not reach that but it rewards you 20,000 XP for it (keep in mind that speed was still like 45,000 so you are not gonna be a 99 speed guy right away). As a coach, you have things you can buy such as position perks (as I call it), you could buy a FREE AGENT QB PACKAGE, and that would mean that when you try to sign a QB during free agency, he would be interested in your team more than others that did not have the perk. Another was like Developmental Trait (or something like that) and that allowed you to earn more XP for completing goals. And these things were not cheap either. Also for a player you could buy traits for your player. Everything is done excellent IMO and I am very excited to try it first hand. I have watched almost every video on E3 thread so if you have anymore, I will do my best to answer for ya.
this is awesome. thanks for the insight, i have been so busy and have had trouble keeping up with the vids

Yes, I'm not sure about staff changes but yes they have everything else.

Sounds good....questions linger but i guess we'll have to wait and see.

# 94 Gabeking @ 06/08/12 11:59 AM
Does anyone know if the twitter and news portion of connected careers will have media members like sefter/Mort posting rumors like: potential bidding teams for specific free agents, potential trade partners for players or draft picks, speculation/rumors about which team will be drafting whomdft time, etc... Personally I would think it would add to the immersion/realism to the mode, does anyone know if it's in or not (probably not)? What would you all think of this?

# 95 Purple28Pedestrian @ 06/08/12 12:29 PM
That's such a bummer, the only way I play madden is with my roomate as a 2-team franchise. I'll get it next year if they manage to add that in, as is I have no use for the game now.

Looks like some really awesome changes to Madden, just not in my avenue of play. I understand those that enjoy the game but I have no use for online or MUT stuff.

Please EA if you are out there, allow 2 team CC/Franchise/Whatever!!! Please you will have my money immediately.

# 96 bigbob @ 06/08/12 02:07 PM
The only thing that I can complain about is that if you don't get signed by the off-season, you're forced to retire. You shouldn't be forced to retire. You should be able to continue to "work-out" and hope a team picks you up during the season.

# 97 SeahawksFan89 @ 06/08/12 05:03 PM
Sorry if this has been answered already, but is it true you will not be able to edit names/equip/player numbers in CC? Has this been confirmed?

I all for the attempts to introduce RPG elements to the game, but to abandon customisation really ruins the mode for me.

In Madden 12 there were instances where #1 was given to an OLB, but with player editing it didn't matter.... When I signed a top free agent and his number was being used by a low rated player who I was going to cut, I could reassign so it didn't matter..... When they gave their rookies stupid names, I could change them.... Not allowing this editing has me worried!

And for those who don't think it matters, see how much anger it caused in FIFA a few years back when you couldn't edit player numbers and the CPU kept assigning #2 to strikers!

If this news is true, it will be the first time in years that I've not bought Madden and it feels like a real shame because CC has so much promise!

# 98 likelifeis @ 06/09/12 03:19 AM
I only purchase madden for the offline franchise, as I enjoy pitting my armchair gm skills against freinds and family in a ongoing league. Since it has been confirmed that offline connected careers is limited to 1 user in offline, I propose to start a petition to change this as I know I have to be one of 50% of people who do something simular in offline franchise. Does anybody that agrees with me know how yo start and effective petition to encourage the change, as I know if it doesnt I will not be purchasing madden 13 and will probably therefore lose interest in the entire franchise.

My email is [email protected] and I'm more then willing to help with the process, I'm just not educated on how to begin!!!

Personally this mode sounds great but my biggest question is if me and my friends are players how are the games against each other played? For example do we still only play as our players or do we control the entire team. In NCAA if you and a friend are coordinators you play each other as the entire team instead of only the offense/defense. I'm really hoping we still play as the player because that would be cool to be able to watch if we are both QB or RBs.

Honestly this is the silliest comment i've read in this thread.

I personally don't have time to play online and don't really care to do so either.

I have no problems with EA wanting to add things to the game but i do i have a problem with them removing stuff like Offline Franchise mode with the ability to edit players and control all 32 teams.

If I spend $60 bucks i should be able to edit anything i want in terms of gear, players and ratings.

No one else has to use my rosters so why are these things being taken away from the guys who prefer to play their own franchise and monitor everything that goes on in their franchise?

Hell maybe i want to create Tony Dorsett and Roger Staubach and play a franshise without of today's current players......it's pretty sad we can't have control of our own rosters/ratings.

This Is Terrible IMO if that's the case.
