Yes. To each his own. Some like it but I think most players dont. I dont like that game either. I deleted EA MMA demo after playing it a couple of times. I was just not impressed.

I haven't been able to do any since playing the demo.
In Pride mode, once your opponent gets down on all-fours, you can kick his face hard like a soccer ball by simply pressing the kick button. It's automatic.

The biggest issue I had with EA MMA was after 5 punches (standing, clinch, or ground) or three side kicks your guy gets so tired that it looks like his diet consists of McDonalds food. I dont understand how an athlete who trains every day could be tired so quickly and these guys train harder than football players. I was so frustrated with the game that I put the controller down and swung five times and I wasnt breathing heavy. The other issue was the slow punch speed, kick sliding, and poor hit detection.

Pacing, movement etc. and newly disaster is the clinch game where the AI manages to transistion before you have the chance to hit a button most of the time. The other guy on Pride commentary is terrible. "Oh helllllllll yes a one punch knock out!!!!!" Leg kicks seem useless, you can't defend off of them anymore apparently so chances are you're going to get punched in the face for every leg kick. Same thing on the ground as in the clinch,reverse-block repeat, try to get a punch or something in. I eventually did. Submission system does fall under flaming hot garbage. I thought the chokes in EA MMA were bad but holy crap.
Well the trick with leg kicks is that you need to be at a nice distance and throw them in singles. I find clinching, moving your man against the cage, then doing a single or double leg hold against the cage allows you to knee the guy in the legs until they turns red in the damage hud. I was able to get 88% damage in both legs. But do to the short time in both Pride and UFC I still havent got a leg tko.

How many of those punches were jabs?

It did regenerate back to full if u delayed your striking for a sec.

I think I'm sold. A sim it is not, but it seems really fun, and I just love the PRIDE mode. Also, are you sure you're not being overly nostalgic over EA MMA? It was a good game, but the AI in it was also too aggressive. It would keep coming forward with punches even when it had no stamina left, and there was nothing I could do to make the AI back off. It was always just a matter of time until I either got rocked by the wild punches, or knocked the CPU out with some counters. Not even hitting the AI with a strong move would make it back off, as it would simply take the hit and keep pushing forward. At least in Undisputed 3 you can make the CPU calm down.

Yeah I tried it also. On Advanced using Rampage I can pretty much get Silva's stamina to the minimum with 5 minutes left in pride just by constantly slamming him and standing back up. I even tried the against the ropes single leg slam on the head take down and the most it does is stun him. It would of been nice to have slam KOs, but overrall Pride is freaking awesome.

How do you sway in this game? I did it a few times by accident but I couldn't duplicate it with any regularity. I'm hoping that it will open up the standup game for me a bit more once I get used to using it. I need to avoid some of Rampage's haymakers of death a little more consistently.

The demo isn't anything groundbreaking, but it's making me feel that I'll have fun with the retail version. I went ahead and paid it off today when I went to Gamestop to pick something else up. I haven't been doing all that great against the CPU so far, I'm probably winning at a 50 percent clip using only Anderson and Wanderlei. I'm just playing on Experienced, so I've got some work to do.

I dig Pride mode a lot. The visuals, presentation, and being able to use stomps and soccer kicks is pretty awesome. I'll be doing most of my gaming offline, but I'm hoping I can get my skills back to what they were in UFC Undisputed 2009. I wasn't the best back then, but I was able to handle most people. The way I was getting beat down in the Alpha was pitiful.

Sway? As in dodging/moving while standing still?

Block and double tap the direction. It has opened up the game for me, at least for Silva.

Also, leg kicks...money.

Thanks, I'll give that a try.

The more I play the demo the more I get pissed about the ground game. Wandy shouldn't be able to push Rampage off of him as soon as he gets him in full guard, but it happens damn near every time. With all the settings one would think that they could have something to make the ground game more realistic.
Hell, they had it right in 2009 and I can't for the life of me figure out why the changed it.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still excited for the game because I love the UFC. However, this game would have so much potential if the just fixed that one aspect.

Agreed on the ground game, it was so better in 09' but Ive learned on the interwebs that people hate "lay and pray" and want to get to the stand up as quick as possible which is lame for a UFC game...I dont want K1...

Sliders are needed.

The ground game is horrible espicially playing two player you just sit there and spam the grappling all day. Stand up is ok until you up the difficulty and the a.i guess' every punch and becomes so much quicker then you. Good arcade game. Horrible Sim

I'm not seeing that on Advanced. I think people are immediately looking to transition right after the takedown instead of laying instead of waiting for Silva to transition, transition block with Rampage and then try to move into half guard.

Also the ratings are a big reason this is happening too. Rampage is 84 when it comes to takedown offense but rated a 69 when it comes to ground grapple top offense. Silva is rated a 73 on takedown defense and a 74 when it comes to ground grapple bottom defense. So according the stats Rampage should be able to takedown Silva regularly but he should have problem keeping him down. Thats looks like its happening.

I'm also willing to withhold judgment until the game comes out. I'll be pissed if I have GSP (rated 85 on ground grapple top) and I take Hardy down (rated 67 on ground grapple bottom) and he just tosses me off of him. The problem with the demo is that for the most part you have 4 fighters that are good pretty much anywhere the fight goes. So it gives off the impression that the game is unbalanced.

I noticed this too. It seems on advanced difficulty and higher the AI knows what you are doing as soon as you press the button. The only thing they are not good at is seeing the clinch coming. If I don't press a punch button a lot of times the cpu will just walk until they are nose to nose with me. However if I try to throw a hook almost no matter how well I set it up the cpu is lightning fast to throw its own hook to hit me first. I don't like the stand up game at all because of this. It just seems cheap and pointless to even try to set things up. The ground and clinch game are also terrible against the cpu. If I get taken down all I have to do is spam minor transitions till I can get up and if I take them down they do the same. The clinch game is the same, and if you use Jones the cpu has never once even attempted to stop his takedown from double under hooks. It's hard to even try to throw strikes in the clinch because the cpu is spazzing out with the transition spams. I've already stopped playing the demo. Saving my money for the Show 12.

I've been playing on the hardest level because I dominted the AI in 2010 on expert - they were way too easy. It's definately more challenging now - on the ground you pretty much need to hold on to get a stand up unless you want to get passed or beat on. Unfortunately on the feet its starting to become too easy like last version . .. .if you just stand there and block and only counter punch with sways and the L1 modifier you'll wreck the AI once you get the timing down.

I realize its the computer and its hard to program that stuff but I was hoping to see more mix ups. I think when the full game is out there will be more variety but when fighting a slugger I think it will be too easy to take them out on the feet.

Someone mentioned before there were several different AI types, I think? How many if anyone knows?

no need to double tap, just a flick will do while blocking. I noticed if you dash (flick up or down without block) you can't really block negating it as a movement strategy while in the pocket or any striking range.

Rampage is overpowered. I'm finding it too easy to beat wandy on advanced and too hard to beat rampage. In pride wandy did knock the hell out of rampage twice, so if anything it should be the other way around.

I remember seeing anywhere from 12-14 in the Alpha.

It is IMPOSSIBLE to beat rampage with Wandy. I think either Rampage is overpowered or standup is too highly favored.

I kinda feel the same thing with Jon Jones and Spider.

Ive struggled with Wandy but not at all with Jones. Ive beat Silva several times with Jones on Advanced. Take Silva down with a double leg or clinch and take him down. I've dominated rounds with Jones.

I've been able to beat Rampage on Advanced by using Muay Thai fundamentals. It's impressive that I can use teeps just like I do in real life. On the other hand, when I'm controlling Rampage, I don't have to do much more than throw bombs all day, so I'd argue that there's indeed a lack of balance.
