NBA 2K12 patch 1.03 is available now for 360. Please post your impressions here.

PS3 users have already had the patch for a few days and have posted impressions right here.

Here are the official patch notes:

GAMEPLAY
  • On-dribbler steal success rates have been tuned down.
  • Tuned accuracy of directional passing in order to more reliably pass to the intended target.
  • Improved help defense, specifically for rotations on pick-and-roll situations.
  • Defensive tuning on 3PT shots to reduce the success of contested threes.
  • Addressed an issue on drives to the basket where the help defender wouldn’t fully engage in the double team
ONLINE
  • Several matchmaking optimizations have been made in order to help users get into games quicker. This will reduce the amount of time the “Searching For Opponent…” screen is displayed for.
  • Addressed a number of network errors that would cause games to end prematurely.
  • Addressed an issue in Team-Up where certain conditions would lead to a player standing idle for prolonged periods of time.
  • Corrected a Win/Loss streak tracking issue such that the “Back to Back to Back” achievement/trophy will now unlock at the proper time.

i didnt feel any difference. only got 2 games in b4 work. my opponent had the knicks(HOF/SIM) and carmelo was splashing contested 3's just like before the patch. he went 9/11 from 3pt line. i had celtics and Paul Pierce went for a quiet 35 scoring from mostly midrange. it felt just like b4 the patch when i felt i could hit from anywhere with him. i did go 1-8 with ray but i hadnt played in a few days so i think my release was just off.
then i went Celtics vs Thunder(ranked match) and again it felt the same. dude wasnt that good so i cant say it was the patch because he was missing with everyone. lol. got ray's release back and went 8-9 from 3pt line. it never disconnected or anything weird. if dude was splashing 3's like that with melo, then im sure people can still get Steph Curry or Kobe and go crazy still from 3. lol. i just wish the defensive contesting of shots had more strength to it but whateva.

Playing mostly default All-Star/SIM sliders w/lowered shot success, upped fatigue@60, upped free throw difficulty@55, Clutch Factor off, default rosters. Spurs (cpu) at Lakers (me). Have only played a half so far. Quick impressions:

- Didn't like that the cpu play felt less... intense, maybe? But after playing more think that's because I'd gotten used to the cpu playing with too much awareness and me having to sweat every possession. I've been playing pretty free-form and without much structure just to get a feel for things and I'm down by 10. Surprised after the first quarter the cpu and I had the same amount of turnovers; cpu not playing near-flawless

- cpu play overall definitely seems more appropriate. Jefferson is finally playing like the bum he is and I feel like I'll have to make some adjustments for Duncan as he's not just getting his off scraps. Overstatement on Jefferson of course, but felt he's gone off unrealistically in the past when I've played the Spurs. It's always going to be a matter of perception but do feel the game's playing out as I'd expect it to/don't feel I'm having to overcompensate for the cpu playing above where I feel it should

- 3pt and contested shots have definitely been tweaked

- cpu's proficiency at hitting shots as the shot clock runs down has been noticeably toned down. Think they've only hit 2 that I can recall. Either way it's not standing out as it would previously

- Seems the cpu's reaction to user button input has been noticeably toned down. much easier to accelerate/get to the hole once a defender's hips are turned. Still don't think it's advisable to ride the turbo button but so far seems gamers are a little more rewarded for using turbo for burst

Three's are still going in even when contested. I hit 10 3's in my first game online after the patch. Average 3 point shooters are capable of lighting it up off-the-dribble.

Outside of defensive control being tighter and momentum shots being a little more awkward, I don't see much of a change/improvement....

So far so good. I can't speak about online at the moment.

# 7 qnzballa5 @ 11/09/11 11:20 AM
Only thing they fixed was lag, n matchmaking.. 3ptrs n steals still crazy.. Solution is to tone the sliders for 3ptrs n onball steals.. N tone blocks in the paint way down.. Pgs blocking centers in paint?? Tone it down asap

Personally, I'm interested in getting your online impressions. You swore up and down that I was complaining about nothing after us PS3 owners got the patch. Now that you have the patch for yourself, why don't you see if any my complaints were valid or if I'm just some 2K newb whining over nothing.

Like i just said in my other thread.. Just tone the sliders down online. Main problem online is that first its on pro/allstar level/ casual or pro level. Change all of tha up to at least superstar/simulation level. Then tone 3ptrs to 46-47 like last year. Tone on ball steals down, tone blocks in paint down.. I guarantee u online will be alot better if they do this asap.. No need to wait weeks to do this adjustment. Just do it like NIKE

# 10 Mos1ted @ 11/09/11 11:36 AM
I don't know if it's affecting you 360 guys, but on the PS3 online, I noticed that the shot and layup/dunk animations were slower and the defensive animation is faster, which is leading to more blocks in the paint.

Also they still have that huge network error. A rank game or an urank online game. I do my playbook right. The next game i play online my playbooks r saved. So once i call for one of my saved playbook plays it does network error immediately.. That has been happenin since this game came out n still in post patch.. Y??

Funny I was just about to post them. I played two games online; borderline shocked both guys played relatively straight. Neither had any gameplay lag whatsoever but in both there was noticeable input lag, if that's what it's called. I think I hit 25% from three the first game, second I think I may have hit two 3s all game - and I had some good looks. First game both me and my opponent had problems hitting 3s. Second game my opponent had little probs shooting mid or long range while I struggled at times. I managed to keep it close as he was sloppy w/turnovers though. Game disconnected in the second game as he was doing something and it gave me the win even though I was down 3-4pts.

As I said when we were going back and forth, I'd agree with you that online isn't some hyper-Sim experience. But I don't think it's supposed to be. I don't see it as being some horrible completely unrealistic basketball experience either. Most people that play this game don't know basketball, I'd place myself among them. So I think expecting the game to somehow force people to play a certain way really isn't realistic given many don't really know the game of basketball to begin with. Yes guys should be punished for constantly hacking and shouldn't be able to feel good simply hoisting up 3s all the time.

The guys I played today played mostly straight - neither tried to constantly hack at the ball although one did routinely play the inbound. Far as I know he didn't feel he was doing anything wrong but if I were to compare to real life it's not something you'd likely see. As far as the bumping I think that's almost a necessity for online play at this point. Unless games like baseball or basketball that normally require precision are able to completely remove latency - which at this point is impossible - there has to be some sort of middle ground so people can't drive however they want without something to slow them down. Not saying it's a perfect solution or even the right solution but I think it's better than the alternative. Either way, my experience online so far today has been enjoyable. I normally don't play online much so today for me has been encouraging. So far.

But my original point was this:

I'm not expecting every guy I face online to know basketball, nor am I expecting the game to somehow force them to place realistic basketball. What I'm expecting is for the game to give me tools to where I can play basketball and win against a person who isn't.

So, if I'm playing simulation basketball on a simulation basketball game, and my opponent is playing arcade basketball on a simulation basketball game and can win consistently, that's what I have a problem with.

Sigh.....

So now, I am no longer able to connect to other league members. Its says that the invite/game has expired.

WTF

The gameplay is definitely improved online. Passing is much crisper and hero perimeter shooting has been toned down. I like to play with the Celtics and on one hand, it's great that I can penetrate the paint with Rondo and find Pierce and Allen spotting up behind the line, but on the other hand, shooting 3's is much more difficult. Before, I would try and make a pinpoint pass from the key to the corners and it would be lobbed and easily stolen. Now, the lead passes are very sharp.

Played my first online game after the patch for 360. I was able to find a match within 10 seconds. I picked the Bulls VS Celtics.

First thing I notice, like spankdatazz22 said, was the input lag. The animation is smooth, but I can feel that the lag is there.

Not sure if the steal success rate was tuned down or the reach in fouls was tuned up.

My opponent kept throwing up contested 3s with Ray Allen and this time it doesn't go in as easily. He ended up with 24% from the arc. I went 7/15 for 3. Basically he kept running around with Rondo trying to steal and double teaming Boozer which left guys on the perimeter open.

I'm not seeing any difference with the passing yet on my first game...maybe due to the input lag. Some passes still feel lazy & slow.

I just wish 2K change online ranked match to Superstar Sim level.

Just finished an online game Wolves vs Wizards. I dropped 30 points with Love on 10-19 (6-12 from 3) and 20 with Beasley. It was funny to watch my opponent switch from press to zone to man to attempt to steal spam and I kept lighting his *** up with treys. I scored 78 points which is my highest amount so far.

I don't think I've gotten better with the game overnight even though the Wolves have been my team of the week and I run a patient offense.

does anybody else think that animations are little bit weird after patch? animations suddenly speed up when you go from running to the layup or a dunk and on defense i noticed when you try to steal the ball it seems that animation stops for a milisecond and then continues!maybe it´s just me but it feels weird!I play offline!

No, the animation transitions have definitely loss some fluidity with this patch.

I'm not going to sidetrack the thread. I haven't watched you play nor have I faced every kind of cheeser. But my experience is someone that there a more knowledgeable player that's willing to make adjustments will win out more often than not against someone using helter-skelter tactics. I'm not even that knowledgeable regarding 2K11/12 but my experience has been showing patience/not getting frustrated is probably key above all else.

My luck ran out as I just played a guy that did nothing but swipe at the ball. His twist was to constantly try to draw charges. He did have too much success using those tactics - there were a lot of fouls called, but still many more should've been called. Changing my pace and style (laying off turbo, being more deliberate w/passes,etc.), and not becoming frustrated helps deal. I just got tired of playing him. If you're saying [your] sim style should win out above all else, I'm not sure what to tell you. It's a video game. I don't like throwing that out there as if it's an excuse, because I feel 2K can do more to discourage that style of play. But on some level you have to be reasoned enough to understand it's a videogame where they're trying to find some sense of balance between online/offline, arcade/simulation style play
