Anyone know how rebound ratings are calculated?

I am trying to understand why a guy like Al Jefferson who is a PF playing center averaged almost 10 rebound a game last season and still can't get his rebound ratings updated.

Marc Gasol plays the center position. Dude averaged 7 rebounds per game last season. 11.2 in the playoffs. His overall rebound rating is 93.

Lets look at another center Tyson Chandler. He averaged 9.4 rbs during the season, 9.2 during the playoffs. His overall rebound rating is 93.

Now lets look at Jefferson. He averaged 9.7 as a center last season. His overall rebound rating in 2k12 is 82, down from 83 in 2k11.

So, does anyone know how they come up with this BS? Is there a way to contact whoever does the ratings on twitter? I'm really curious.

Lets compare Jefferson to a PF i.e. Carlos Boozer. Even with his reduced ratings his overall 2k12 rebound rating is

No, there doesn't need to be more balance. If anything there needs to be a distinct gap between the elite and the non-elite players. Why on earth should anyone on the Heat be rated above what they currently are? They are a bunch of role players and journeymen. Not sure what you want out of that situation.

KB2009Champ, I think it's because of his Offensive Rebounding Rate, Defensive Rebounding Rate, and Total Rebounding Rate which are all average for Centers (hits numbers are pretty much in the middle).

If you watched the finals from an unbiased standpoint you would see he did much more than that...sure he didn't command the offense, that's why he's not rated in the 80's. But he definitely drove, got to the line, and finished inside as well. Also, he is a terrific and underrated defender. Those things combine for him to be somewhere between a 73-74.

If they are average then so are Tyson Chandler's. Al actually had better rebounding numbers.

Over last season Chandler average 2.8 off reb, 6.6 def rebound.

Jefferson averaged 2.9 off reb, 6.8 def rebound.

Why does one have a 9.3 rebound rating while the other has a 8.2 rating?

Still doesn't make sense. I'm just saying, where is the consistency? And don't blame it on the playoffs because Chandler's rebounding ratings were higher than Al's in 2k11.

Chandler is a much better rebounder than Al Jefferson. It's silly trying to argue otherwise. When on the floor, Chandler gobbles up nearly 20% of all available rebounds. Jefferson gets about 16.5% of the rebounds. The reason Al Jefferson's "RPG" were higher is because he played 8 more minutes a game...come on man! Also, Al Jefferson (in general) is a top-5 most overrated player in the past decade or so. It's really ridiculous how people put him on a pedestal as having an "elite" post game simply because his repetoire is so vast -- and despite his lack of scoring efficiency! -- and he's proof that stats don't tell the whole story. He manages to toss up 16 shots a night (and only scores 18.6 ppg!) yet gets to the line 3.5 times a night. Chandler shoots 5.5 times a nigh (and scores 10.1 ppg!) yet gets to the line 4 times a night. Chandler is superior in every which way on the basketball court and rebounding is just ONE of many advantages he has over Jefferson.

Chris Paul is easily the best. Why, you may ask?
  • Chris Paul is the ONLY - ONLY - player in NBA history to average at least 20 points and 10 assists in the postseason (over the entirety of his career).
  • CP3 holds the record for consecutive games with a steal at 108.
  • CP3 is 5th player to ever lead the league in assists and steals, and the only player to lead the league in assists and steals in consecutive seasons. (07/08 - 08/09). Also led the league in assists and steals three times (also in 10/11), also a record.

If you wanna go strictly by stats, then CP3 averages more points, assists, rebounds, and steals than Deron Williams, both in the regular season and postseason. He also has a higher FG% than Deron Williams in both.

Chris Paul may not be as athletic as Derrick Rose (He is almost just as quick, though Rose is quicker) or focus on offense as much as Deron Williams, but he is the best complete (Offense and Defense) PG in the league PERIOD.

Someone can legitimately argue Derrick Rose based on individual talent and dominance, and I would concede to that argument. Derrick Rose is the best OFFENSIVE PG, but his defense is average at best and he needs to work on shot selection. (This is coming from a Bulls fan and Chicago resident, so I see every game).

CP3 is the best complete PG. He's more comparable to Rondo in the sense that he's a great (although seemingly underrated) defender and he impacts his entire team and makes them better. Trevor Ariza (Watch his highlights against the Lakers for evidence) and Marco Belinelli are prime examples of this.

Williams is good, no doubt, but he's not a great defender or playmaker IMO. Granted, I don't see him much, but while he was in Utah they ran an offense that gave advantages to the post players so he never really had to create in my eyes, or at least as much as CP3. Also, Williams clearly had more talent around him, even in NJ, than CP3 currently does.

My PG rankings (Top 5):
1. CP3
2a. Derrick Rose
2b. Deron Williams
4. Russell Westbrook
5. Rajon Rondo - he would be number 3 if he had a better jumpshot, at least a mid-range.

I think the OVERALL ratings reflect this perfectly. So long as they play as the real-life counterparts, that is.

Just my humble opinion
That is the loudest humble opinion I have ever seen in my life.

Do people really think Kobe deserves a 78 in mid range besides Laker fans?

Low 70s? If it's above 30 it's a disgrace.

# 355 SdotThaDon @ 09/28/11 07:43 PM
Question, so why does Kobe deserve a better midrange rating after shooting below par an entire season from midrange....But when it comes to Lebron he's supposed to suck after one bad playoff series?
(82 game stretch vs. 6 game stretch)

I know I don't, and I hate that people use %'s to justify the rating.

There are so many things that go into a mid range rating besides %'s.

Take for example Serge Ibaka (77 mid range) and Zach Randolph (69 mid range).

Who in there right minds would think Serge Ibaka is a better mid range shooter than Zach Randolph??

Serge Ibaka is a spot up shooter. Most of his shots are wide open, he isn't forced to take bad shots due to shot clocks and being the primary scorer of his team like Randolph.

This increases his chances of having a higher % than Randolph, that doesn't mean he's a better mid range shooter.

A spot up shooter should be a spot up shooter, don't boost his ratings just because he gets more open looks than a player who's getting double teamed and always has the team's best defender on him .

J.R. Smith has a 91 mid range and Kobe has a 78. That is a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE difference.

J.R. Smith isn't forced to put the team on his back at times, and isn't the only perimeter threat on his team like Kobe.

These are things that you have to take in consideration when you're making the ratings, not just %'s.

If you asked a coach,NBA Player, or NBA Expert who's a better mid range shooter, J.R. Smith or Kobe?? Who do you think they're going to say?????

These ratings are terrible, point blank period.

Don't just make ratings off %'s, get a guy to do the ratings that ACTUALLY WATCHES BASKETBALL AND UNDERSTANDS THE WAY 2K Plays.

# 357 DatGD12guage @ 09/28/11 08:08 PM
can someone please post some consistency ratings for kobe, lebron and some other star players. I actually think consistency plays a bigger role than ppl think because it ties in with the players ability to break out of a bad shooting night so im guessing kobes is higher than lebrons on the count of kobe can break himself out of a bad shooting night more than lebron but lebron can score a lot of points and be on fire in a whole game. but dont get me wrong i do think some ratings are just crazy tho like that dirk 99 mid range even tho it seems right it aint, but I dont think this ratings guy can be that stupid right...............

# 358 SdotThaDon @ 09/28/11 08:12 PM
The mid rating is a base stat that gets affected by shoot in traffic, shoot off dribble and offensive awareness right? So a spot up shooter 77 (Ibaka) with defensive pressure becomes a what 60?(just throwing #'s out there) But Kobe's 78 shouldn't drop as drastically with defensive pressure. Ibaka cannot and will not shoot well off the bounce, Kobe should be able to maintain a similar % even on the move. Something to think about....

# 359 JWiLL02 @ 09/28/11 08:39 PM
The only thing that seems really off to me so far is the mid range ratings. Why the hell is Ersan Ilyasova a 94 mid range? I understand he's probably fairly consistent shooting his wide open set mid range J's set up by Jennings, but it's no excuse to give him a legendary mid range rating.

Also:
Joey Graham - 70
DeMar DeRozan - 69

DeMar was better in his rookie year than Joey has been throughout his entire career, and that includes on the defensive end. Come on! Joey's handles make DeMar look like Pistol Pete.

# 360 dukedude24 @ 09/28/11 08:46 PM
Lebron has higher mid range and 3pt rating than Kobe, that truly made me LOL. 2k either don't know much about basketball or need a better rating system. Kobe has one of the best mid-range in the game.......
