Waiting a bit to change direction is realistic in basketball. Even the quickest guards with the best handles must have a sense of weight and inertia to them. If you could turn and spin on a dime then it would make for a very unrealistic experience and player stats would count for much less. I think what we have here is a happy video game medium.

Yes, other than the sliding, the momentum is good. Lack of realistic momentum is what made 2k9 pretty terrible. Instantaneous response and direction change just can't be had if you want realistic basketball, and so much of the game is about using people's momentum against them-- see Jordan vs. Bryon Russel ("no push-off.").

The sliding (which I hate) is probably a concession so we would have *more* control and a movement model that's understandable to video gamers. Otherwise, you would actually have players frozen in place for a moment while making a sudden movement change because they're shifting their weight and having to plant a leg to do so. I would actually *love* to see this rather than the slidey movement model we have, and I think 2K needs to go in this direction next, but I don't think the people clamoring for instanteous response would.

That said, the Mavs aren't the fastest team in the world. I'm sure things will feel different with Monta Ellis and Derek Rose. Also, Mike Wang mentioned more explosiveness out of the sizeup/triple threat this year.

does anybody notice that we cant backpeddle and steal at the sametime. i hope thats in the final game, because Mike had me happy about that.

2k11 - I have melo on the wing isolated against SHAQ !!
i can dribble ,gather , crossover , do whatever fancy little trick in the book and somehow for the most part my gather takes so long that shaq stays with me .
Now is that realistic to you ? its not to me .
Im NOT saying this is a terrible game all im saying is it still needs PLENTY work !
For the people saying this game is somehow near perfect im happy for you but i totally disagree and i hope somehow someway a dev on here will know what im talking about and get to work for next year .
no disrespect to anyone just my opinion !
The game's not perfect by far-- and I do think the movement model can still be vastly improved, but I certainly don't want to go back to glitchy, arcadey, no momentum movement.

That said, I think what you want to do should be easier this year, since Mike Wang said iso launches would be more explosive for the right players. This year's game also doesn't have the bumpy defense so driving on bigs might be easier. I know I can't always keep up with lebron or wade in the demo-- I hope it'll be the same when I control a player that's good at driving.

I take it that you want the quicker players to be quicker-- just realize that if you're expecting Shaq to be slow when you're iso-ing him with Melo, then your should expect your bigs (and other players slower than Melo) to be less responsive as well.

What I liked very much: I shot last ball missing less than 0.5s. Instead of adding 2 points to my bucket, the refs reviewed the last shot to verify if the ball released my hand before or after the buzzer. As long as refs were reviewing the play on a monitor, the entire team was kinda nervous awaiting the decision. As it was before the buzzer, refs counted the points. Kidd started to celebrate like a.... kid.

Throw the ball into the post, press y to face up, hold turbo and move left stick toward the hoop, immediately spin the right stick with turbo held. You should be able to get something close. But it might be tough to pull off in traffic.

Even the defensive 3 second free throw bug is funny. Dirk just stands there, looking at the hoop...forever...

Beluba, can I pull of the following scenario in 2k12?

I take control of an offball offensive player, call for a screen, run to an open spot, call for the ball, and shoot an uncontested jump shot?

I havn't read this whole thread as its to big, so I am going to just give a few impressions...

When I first downloaded the demo I played 5 games and I was left very unimpressed and a bit discouraged. I thought the over hype of this game and all the insights made my expectations a little to high. The things I hated initially was the defense and it seems the offensive player has way more speed then the defender. The defense feels slow when they are user controlled. The other issues I had were just basicly me not being familiar with all the new controls so the post game felt weird and with no sig gathers and hop steps (or knowing how to do them) also made it uncomfortable for me to play.

Now my impressions have changed after playing 25 or so games. At least offensively they have. After practicing the controls the game is great offensively. I don't like that they got rid of the post move with the fake into the scoop shot though:-( But the post game is nice. The step back J with Dirk out of the post is REDIRKULOUS! The escape moves are nice and the momentum jumpers are awesome. I also like the help D from CPU and I to my surprise I got a couple steals from the defender guarding the ball by getting my hand in the passing lane. NICE addition! The fast breaks are well done too! I am also really happy to see the strength battle play back in the post from another earlier version. It is now a chess match again in the paint. I realize this is a bare bones demo and its hard to get a great feel for it seeing that its probably 2-3 months old and missing alot of things such as plays, commentary, and what not.

BUT, I am praying that they fix the user controlled defense! I read that you need to feather the stick and use the right and left triggers. I have tried all of this and it still does not feel right. I like that they brought this back (Right and Left triggers) from the early 2k days but it is not implemented well in the demo IMO. I have also read the well Lebron and D Wade can't be stopped that often anyways stuff which is BS. If played right they should be able to be stopped. It feels like the defender is in mollasses while offensive player has turbo boosters in his shoes. Does anyone else notice this? Defense wins championships and I can see this being a real problem online if its not tweaked somehow. Looks like off ball defense will be wild again!

I can contain LeBron and Dwyane Wade just fine by playing position defense and bring over the help when I get beat. Of course, I can't possibly expect to defend them by simply trying to react to what they're doing, or I'll get beat every time. I need to anticipate and cut off their angles.
