I don't doubt they will put some sort of fix in a patch or tuner... which will then cripple other aspects of the game play, which will lead to more tuners fixing the new problems created/whatever the online kids are whining about.

Sometimes it's nice to be an offline NHL player.

Agreed.

I just enjoy playing the game at my own pace, and my own way.

Every time I get behind the net I can score with a wraparound of sorts where you circle to the front of the net, shooting the puck inside the far goalpost. I've done this several times on superstar-hardcore, forehand and backhand, on both goalies.

I was thinking of getting the game but over the years I've played too many sports games thinking don't score this way, don't score that way.
I've felt that way many times about NHL 11 which is why I wasn't able to play it from the release until the release of NHL 12. I can normally go an entire year playing a hockey game. Madden and NCAA are often like this to because they have money plays. In fact NCAA has the deep ball money play right now that works about 90% of the time. When I play NCAA I limit myself to throwing the deep ball because of this. I should not be forced to do this to make the game enjoyable.

Ya I fully understand that. However, there have been many games where I haven't felt that way though. That's why I buy the game. You can't figure those things out until you actually play the game. The day I stop buying games will be when I no longer enjoy them. I still enjoy NHL despite some of the money goals and other gameplay flaws. It hasn't been quite enough to make me stop playing the game. On the other hand this is the first year I haven't bought Madden on release day in probably like 5 years. I'm quite proud of myself. I did buy NCAA though.

That doesn't really mean no effort should be made from year to year to fix a problem if it's there.

When you're able to score the same goal 5 years in a row, or when you're stuck with the same cut-scenes 5 years in a row I think anytime would be good to make it "the year".

There are and will be a whole ton of complaints floating around within the next couple weeks that will be a little ridiculous, no doubt. Concerns/commentary like this though? I think they're completely warranted.

Also, again, I don't understand how you could be of the mindset that if it's broke and requires extra work, don't fix it. I get what you're saying, that perhaps there's an issue that requires multiple levels of fixes to achieve (much like the speedy backwards skating conversation from earlier), but since when is that a good excuse for anything? It's hard to fix?

I wish I could just take a year off to go to EA Canada and observe how they program a game from the beginning of the development cycle to the end. I know there is a crap load that goes into it so it would be interesting to see.

As for fixing things that have plagued the game since day one, it's their job to correct them. Let's say a marketer has to give a presentation about something. The boss gives them the project details but the worker says "It's too difficult to do." I'm sorry but that does not fly out in the working world. The NHL team has no excuse to say "it's too difficult." If they do, then they should be canned. That is their job to figure it out and find ways to fix things without breaking anything else. If they can't do that then they are in the wrong business. I just don't understand how problems that have been in the game for so long haven't been fixed. It's almost like they avoid talking about it to. You would think they would know what problems have existed in their game for the past 5 years.

sorry wrong

Speaking from experience, a development team rarely says something is too hard or impossible to do. What usually happens is the development team will say it'll take X number of days and Y resources to get the job done. Someone else decides whether or not the time/cost investment is worth it or if those resources should be spent elsewhere.

I'd kill to have as much man power and resources that EA has for this game each year. It boggles my mind that with all those resources, the same problems exist from year to year.

I'm planning on focusing more on the offline aspects of the game this year. No matter how many bugs they fix, the community is going to find new ways to make the game less fun online.

There are just too many people in the online community who seem bound and determined to ruin the game.

Yeah, it's frustrating. I think I would've gone back to being an offline guy anyways just because I've been that way with hockey games since the early 90's, but I must say that the biggest reason I don't play EASHL and other online modes is because of the "community".

When the whole BAP thing started in 09, I must say it was ****ing awesome. Playing online on my own team with a bunch of dudes from my beer league team was great fun... for about 3 weeks. Then the glitches, the exploits, the general annoyingness of the online community kicked in and I really haven't had any desire to go back since.

Yes, that's all I may play this year (maybe a little HUT if it isn't too annoying). I'm not even sure if our EASHL team is getting back together this year and I have little urge to play anyway. The little AI annoyances you see are nothing compared to the garbage that goes on online.

I was just hoping to see a little progress since the NES. We have outdoor games with snow, players sweating, making expressions and talking... and I must remember not score with a wraparound!

There are sports games, like FIFA, that don't have glitch goals, why not NHL?

FIFA does have glitch goals.

I played several seasons in FIFA 11 without finding a way to score every time. I played maybe ten periods of NHL 12 and found a way to score every time on hardest difficulty. That was my experience.

Obviously in soccer you don't actually get near the goal so often but through three periods of hockey you have the puck behind the net, in the money spot, several times but it should be no excuse for EA.
