Did they patch the demo? I haven't played the demo in awhile. I'm patiently waiting for the full game.

The backskating speed of defensemen is waaaayy too fast. If I'm in the neutral zone right beside a backwards skating Dennis Seidenberg, with Michael Grabner I should be off to the races.

Yeah... yeah. This is probably my biggest problem with the gameplay believe it or not.

First, it makes any player who isn't 85+ speed feel sluggish. Second, it feels almost impossible to use your speed to blow by a defender, which makes absolutely no sense at all. Especially when you consider that if there's a race to a loose puck you can beat the d man and get a breakaway, but if he's skating backwards you've got virtually no chance.

I have no problem with this using the hustle button

I thought the hustle button only works for a player without possession of the puck, no?

Really??????

If that's true, there is so much about this damn hustle button that I don't know, lol

That was my understanding last year. Hustle button for players without the puck, push puck for players with the puck.

I think it works well,...although hustle is hard on the L3 button`s functional integrity.
Right, so the fact remains that players skate backwards entirely too fast.

It's already too easy to gain the zone, if the defenders skated slower it would be easy to gain the zone AND skate around defenders.

True, but this is the type of reasoning that leads them to make bad adjustments like having guys skate backwards so fast in the first place.

Rather than saying it's ok because the zone is already easy to gain, they should really work on both problems. Wishful thinking I guess.

No patch to the demo, Atomic.

The player models looking a bit better is just something that finally caught my eye. If in deed they were worked on. Maybe just my imagination.

That's one of my biggest gripes with this series.
Instead of making the AI smarter so that gaining the offensive zone is harder, they simply give the CPU speed boosts so that they can back up faster than your forwards can skate forwards.

Last night I played a game and Chara kept up with Mason Raymond while skating backwards.
Stuff like this annoys me.

I wish you could play Be A GM in the CHL. It seems that in the AHL and CHL the player separation is way more noticeable so your stars stand out more to the point you want them on the ice in certain situations.

Sliders may help this, but right now, I'm going to rent NHL12 first. NBA2K12 looks too darn good to simply hand EA money for nothing. One game will enter the ring, only one will come out.

Here is my impressions so far. I have been playing about 15-20 games in BAGM mode. In NHL 11 I played on AS with current settings I usuallay won 4-5 games on these settings.

I started my first game in 12 with the same settings as in 11 and my first game was mindblowing. I managed to get 5 shots in the whole game. :O I had big problems getting out of my zone.

However after playing almost all day Im getting more and more into the game and last game I was dominating.

Computer AI as an opponent is much better in 12. I cannot go coast to coast with my D men. Getting infront of the net is really hard and if I have a player there, more often than not he will not get the pcuk under control.

Its a better flow, seems more like real hockey. Shots are more random and puck bounce way more now. I havent managed to get a singel breakaway in 15-20 games !!!

AI in my own team is a deal breaker. I was hoping that players would skate more to get in open area. Work harder for the space but...
the problem with your own team getting in your way is still here. Its better but it happens way to often.

goalie interfierence happens from time to time, not all the time but its there like in real hockey and its good.

Overall I like it, I will not go back and play 11 after this, it would be a step back. I get the feeling of more pulse in the games and when Im not on my toes computer will punish my team with a goal or two.

I havent tried trade yet. I have noticed that trade value of player is lowered a lot.

Anyways short impressions from me.

Thanks for the impressions! Some good and some bad by the sounds of it. How would you say the game play compares to the demo? Are sliders effective?

The bit about goalie interaction being hit or miss kinda sucks. I take it the invisible bubble that was so evident in the demo is just as pronounced in the retail version?

Much better than the demo. The feeling is more genuine gameplay wise. Sliders are effective. tried a game on hardcore and well... Im not that good I was crushed.

the bubble is there fore sure I was trying to run the golie at a point when I was frustrated and it was like I bumped of, if U no what a mean. My player lost speed in some magical way and it ended up with a little touch.

This really caught my eye.

This alone will make a very nice difference for me.

Glad to hear the first part.

The bubble news is frustrating though. The whole "goalies are live" thing is such bull****. I mean at least there is some interaction during play, but with that bubble in place the goalies aren't really "live" until after the whistle. I was hoping that was just a demo thing for some reason.

Maybe in Atom div. of minor hockey.
Yes, but that's a result of defensive positioning and the rules of the game, not an invisible wall that disappears only when the whistle blows.

I was very happy with the gameplay until I discovered I can score the same goal over and over.

Every time I get behind the net I can score with a wraparound of sorts where you circle to the front of the net, shooting the puck inside the far goalpost. I've done this several times on superstar-hardcore, forehand and backhand, on both goalies.

I was thinking of getting the game but over the years I've played too many sports games thinking don't score this way, don't score that way.

I noticed that wraparound money goal also....I'm hoping that they address it in a patch.....
