NBA 2K12 News Post

ESPN has announced the 15 legends in NBA 2K12 and their opposing teams. Both sides should have 10-12 accurate players represented according to the article. Here's the list of players and their opponents in the game:

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
86-87 Lakers vs. Celtics

Larry Bird
85-86 Celtics vs Hawks

Julius “Dr. J” Erving
84-85 76ers vs Bucks

Wilt Chamberlain
71-72 Lakers vs Knicks

Patrick Ewing
94-95 Knicks vs Magic

Magic Johnson
90-91 Lakers vs Blazers

Michael Jordan
92-93 Bulls vs Hornets

Karl Malone
97-98 Jazz vs Spurs

Scottie Pippen
95-96 Bulls vs Sonics

Oscar Robertson
70-71 Bucks vs Lakers

Hakeem Olajuwon
93-94 Rockets vs Nuggets

Bill Russell
64-65 Celtics vs Lakers

Jerry West
70-71 Lakers vs Hawks

Isiah Thomas
88-89 Pistons vs. Bulls

John Stockton
97-98 Jazz vs. Lakers

Bonus Teams
1990-91 Warriors and 2001-02 Kings

Chris' Take: Seems to be a lot of a 'been there done that' with several of the guys and teams on the list. BUT, that doesn't mean it's still not cool (for now). Some of the guys are pretty exciting such as Oscar Robertson, Bill Russell, and Wilt Chamberlin. If the rosters from the opposing teams are spot-on as mentioned in the article, then this mode gets a lot more exciting and that appears to be the case. But really, a lot of the guys from the 90s and late 80s are rehashes of last year's teams on the Jordan Challenge. And it appears you have to play (or I'm sure pay) to unlock the teams in exhibition.

NBA 2K needs all it can to top last year's effort sales wise, I'm highly skeptical it's going to be able to match it with the NBA Lockout and a legends lineup that feels cool but somewhat rehashed as well -- but the mode should be quite cool at least one more year.

Erick Boenisch "We have Ed Nealy and Danny Ainge too" . Man, I guess he doesn't even have time to play the game he produces.

Yeah but back then it was a mini-bush. It'll probably look similar to the "Small Afro" hairstyle on the Create A Player screen.

Why is everyone like OMG kobe fro! Its all about Nick the Quick on that squad....pretty solid list to say the least, i didn't expect reggie and charles but it sucks that we can't use guys like mark jackson, smits, majerle, chambers, and kj because of it.

Only players that i was hoping to see were Alan Houston, Spree, maybe a little Timmy Hardaway and Glen Rice.

wooooo i get to play Ewing again and this time i don't have to create the missing players! I'm a little bummed that the 94 Pacers are not in game as those games against the Knicks were just fun to watch..

think about it guys! i could've headbutted Miller again with Starks

just lovin this pic

I would pay 4 the 93 phoenix team the year Charles won MVP! They need that team... They need that jersey lol. That would of been a fun team 2 play with. Kj, thunder Dan, Charles Barkley, Cedric ceballos, high flying Richard Dumas etc. I do like that they got the 94 rockets team though!

am I the only one a bit unimpressed with this lineup? there's about 8 different teams there, when theres 15 legends. Like Karl Malone AND John Stockton? Does John Stockton really take up a spot over say, Shaq?

LOL did you read the article from ESPN?

Anyway, it's great to know that the first Laker team with Kobe, Shaq, Eddie and Nick is there!

I feel a bit disappointed that Barkley, my favorite team of the past the 92-93 Phoenix Suns and Reggie Miller are excluded. The poll on the facebook site was being presented as if it actually mattered, and it seems to have not. I also don't get why the 2001-2002 Lakers are not in it (considering the 2001-02 Kings) and the 1997-98 Lakers are... head scratcher.

That being said I am very happy with the teams that are in the game. Many pleasant surprises such as the Nuggets, Hornets and such. The inclusion of those teams however makes me wonder how Iverson's Sixers didn't make the cut, and again, why we don't have the 01-02 Lakers.

ya know 2k could've cheated adding 93' Suns by just picking oh lets say Kevin Johnson as a legend and you can have four starters except for one odd looking generic white guy whom we can edit

Shaq is on multiple teams. The Magic and the Lakers. Do Stockton and Pippen really need to take up a spot over Barkley, Miller, Iverson??, etc. Licensing limitations notwithstanding....

Does anybody know if the minutes are locked out? Last year we were forced to play only 8 minute quarters....since the goal is only to win the game then i would expect it that we can play 12 minute quarters...

My logic mirrors yours. With no individual goals, I can't see them making us play a certain length. I mean, I guess I could see there being a minimum, such as no less than five minute quarters, but I can't see it locked in.

LOL I suggested this but they wouldn't buy my concept of having KJ as a legend. I tried man I tried. rotflol
