NBA 2K12 News Post

ESPN has announced the 15 legends in NBA 2K12 and their opposing teams. Both sides should have 10-12 accurate players represented according to the article. Here's the list of players and their opponents in the game:

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
86-87 Lakers vs. Celtics

Larry Bird
85-86 Celtics vs Hawks

Julius “Dr. J” Erving
84-85 76ers vs Bucks

Wilt Chamberlain
71-72 Lakers vs Knicks

Patrick Ewing
94-95 Knicks vs Magic

Magic Johnson
90-91 Lakers vs Blazers

Michael Jordan
92-93 Bulls vs Hornets

Karl Malone
97-98 Jazz vs Spurs

Scottie Pippen
95-96 Bulls vs Sonics

Oscar Robertson
70-71 Bucks vs Lakers

Hakeem Olajuwon
93-94 Rockets vs Nuggets

Bill Russell
64-65 Celtics vs Lakers

Jerry West
70-71 Lakers vs Hawks

Isiah Thomas
88-89 Pistons vs. Bulls

John Stockton
97-98 Jazz vs. Lakers

Bonus Teams
1990-91 Warriors and 2001-02 Kings

Chris' Take: Seems to be a lot of a 'been there done that' with several of the guys and teams on the list. BUT, that doesn't mean it's still not cool (for now). Some of the guys are pretty exciting such as Oscar Robertson, Bill Russell, and Wilt Chamberlin. If the rosters from the opposing teams are spot-on as mentioned in the article, then this mode gets a lot more exciting and that appears to be the case. But really, a lot of the guys from the 90s and late 80s are rehashes of last year's teams on the Jordan Challenge. And it appears you have to play (or I'm sure pay) to unlock the teams in exhibition.

NBA 2K needs all it can to top last year's effort sales wise, I'm highly skeptical it's going to be able to match it with the NBA Lockout and a legends lineup that feels cool but somewhat rehashed as well -- but the mode should be quite cool at least one more year.

They basically foucsed it around every one they had lic's for ever for but MJ. Lets hope the stick to there word of correct era arenas because in the those pics i still see led rings in the arena.

Still hope for some hidden gem's i remember reading you can unlock team as you go. Doing player chanlleges and stuff. Or is that what kings and warriors?
the whole fan voting was to hype it up and keep 2k12 constant in the social network, the results of the poll wasnt going to affect the game since they had the list of players already confirmed maybe 1 or 2 months ago

so the facebook voting was just all for nothing?!

no 2001 sixers and lakers, no AI, no Kobe, no Shaq

I feel sad

come on 2k give me a chance to play as Ai in his prime before I get too old

I was thinking maybe some achievements or trophies could be tied to certain player specific challenges.

So its more like " " dropped the ball and insert the name of your favorite player who is not in the game.
How can people not be happy with this list? With guys like MKHARSH33 and portlandblazer and their amazing work they do i'm not worried about Reggie or Charles. I'm with you and extremely happy with this list.

All we need are created teams from the master roster creators for the teams below added to the list we already got and my all time association can begin...

Bullets - Unseld/Hayes
Clippers - Manning/Harper
Nets - D Coleman/Petrovic
Cavs (not sure what happened to Price & Daugherty being out this yr?)
Suns - Barkley/KJ
Pacers - Reggie/Mullin
Mavs - Aguire/Ro Blackman/Harper/Tarpley
Miami -Hardaway/Mourning
TWolves - Garnett/Marbury

CANT WAIT!!! Thanks 2K!!!

I'm very happy with the list; some of the opponents to the 15 legends I'm more excited about than the actual "legend" team, lol.

Should be a fun year for the roster-makers, especially since 2K filled out the depth charts on these teams.

I'm extremely happy with this list but I also hope more DLC teams are announced in tomorrow's insight. I don't see why the 02' Kings would be in the game without any other '02 teams. Hopefully the '02 Lakers and '01 Sixers but who knows. Great job 2K.

I was thinking the same exact thing. As in, a person's favorite player may not have agreed to appear in-game, but it's not like 2K went ahead and included forty other legends instead or anything. Oh wait. . .they did.

I'm a little surprised that people care so much about Reggie Miller. I can understand Chuck, seeing as he was one of offensive powerhouses in NBA history...but Miller? Really? That guy is beyond overrated these days.

Ah well. It's a nice list. Just keep it as authentic as possible.

Why did they pick 91 Magic? Why didn't they get a better Magic like either 87 Magic when he won the MVP. OR 85 Magic when he averaged 15 assist a game in the playoffs. Or even 82 Magic where he nearly averaged a triple double with 18.6 PPG, 9.6 APG, 9.5 RPG.

Because the 91 Magic was already made thanks to the Jordan challenge last year... Lazy on 2K's part...

Damnit Chuck & Reggie! Lol
No, but seriously I had my hopes up. Let the virtual CAP versions of Barkley & Miller begin!

totally agree. people rate Miller sooooo highly it's unbelievable. I see people putting Miller ahead of likes of Mitch Richmond...

Plus we get Walt Frazier, Willis Reed, Earl 'The Pearl' Monroe, Dave Debusschere, Bill Bradley and Phil Jackson just on that 72 Knicks team.

I thought we have the 80's Magic with the 1987 Lakers. And if the challenge is only winning, does it really matter who the legend is?

I got the feeling the Legend Matchups were just sort of placeholders. I mean, Kareem's challenge comes as a part of the '87 Lakers, but clearly Magic and the rest of the crew will be there as well. So I think this was kind of 2K's way of spreading the wealth and including multiple versions of key teams featuring the legends on the cover (which would explain a random "Pippen" legend in addition to a random - but awesome - '93 Bulls/Hornets match).

Man, those '87 Lakers... SHOWTIME is back!

Well the 86-87 Kareem Abdul-Jabbar well be there so the Magic of 87 would be there too.

I respect the history of the game, but if I have never seen someone play, I cant really enjoy playing his likeness. By just adding Allen Iverson it would have made alot of people happy and would have sold alot more copies and pleased alot more people than having a Jerry West/ Scottie Pippen Challenge. You all saw the vote of Facebook. Iverson was one of the most wanted players. 2k dropped the ball.
It might make you take the time and see what these players accomplished. If you love the game, you should look back at who made the game. Contrary to what a lot of people think, the game didn't start in the 80s or for some "teenagers" the 90s. The Big O is my pick for tragedy player ever and if he weren't in this mode, 2k would have made a big mistake. I will love putting Shaq and Kobe against Wilt or Russell.

And please look up what Pistol Pete did in college and check out some of his highlights. Him and Cousy were the originators of flashy passing. Know king how 2k handles this stuff, Pistiol Pete, hopefully with the floppy socks, will ridiculous passing animations.

I would have loved to play with Reggie, Charles and AI, but I'm psyched by the teams they did get. The one player who reallly needed to be in here was Sir Charles, but it must have something to do with contrcts.
