NBA 2K12 News Post

ESPN has announced the 15 legends in NBA 2K12 and their opposing teams. Both sides should have 10-12 accurate players represented according to the article. Here's the list of players and their opponents in the game:

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
86-87 Lakers vs. Celtics

Larry Bird
85-86 Celtics vs Hawks

Julius “Dr. J” Erving
84-85 76ers vs Bucks

Wilt Chamberlain
71-72 Lakers vs Knicks

Patrick Ewing
94-95 Knicks vs Magic

Magic Johnson
90-91 Lakers vs Blazers

Michael Jordan
92-93 Bulls vs Hornets

Karl Malone
97-98 Jazz vs Spurs

Scottie Pippen
95-96 Bulls vs Sonics

Oscar Robertson
70-71 Bucks vs Lakers

Hakeem Olajuwon
93-94 Rockets vs Nuggets

Bill Russell
64-65 Celtics vs Lakers

Jerry West
70-71 Lakers vs Hawks

Isiah Thomas
88-89 Pistons vs. Bulls

John Stockton
97-98 Jazz vs. Lakers

Bonus Teams
1990-91 Warriors and 2001-02 Kings

Chris' Take: Seems to be a lot of a 'been there done that' with several of the guys and teams on the list. BUT, that doesn't mean it's still not cool (for now). Some of the guys are pretty exciting such as Oscar Robertson, Bill Russell, and Wilt Chamberlin. If the rosters from the opposing teams are spot-on as mentioned in the article, then this mode gets a lot more exciting and that appears to be the case. But really, a lot of the guys from the 90s and late 80s are rehashes of last year's teams on the Jordan Challenge. And it appears you have to play (or I'm sure pay) to unlock the teams in exhibition.

NBA 2K needs all it can to top last year's effort sales wise, I'm highly skeptical it's going to be able to match it with the NBA Lockout and a legends lineup that feels cool but somewhat rehashed as well -- but the mode should be quite cool at least one more year.

I watched that NBA Roundtable Show on NBA TV the other day about the 80's Mavericks. People forget how lethal that team had become with Harper, Blackman, Aguirre, Perkins, Tarpley (when his head was on straight), and even guys like Brad Davis & James Donaldson. People even forget that Schrempf was on that team. They tore it down and then started over with Jackson (my all-time favorite Buckeye), Mashburn and Kidd.

Now, that early 90's team...yikes!!!

Looking forward to putting alot of time in playing this mode, but would've like that the Barkley Suns were included. I'll settle with playing with him on 84-85 Sixers

It's funny, I was just thinking about this. I wish they would make a downloadable game featuring only classic teams. Frankly I'm not too interested in bringing these classic teams into games with current teams aside from maybe the '95 Magic against the current Magic. I wish 2k would make a game with the NBA's greatest teams and rosters and make it available through PSN and XBL. The price to make the game wouldn't be as much as making the disk so this could be something for them to think about. Maybe charge $15 or $20 for it. I would definitely buy that.

OMFG This game is awesome BTW is it really 84-85 SIXERS vs. 84-85 BUCKS.. finally old 80's BUCKS team with Terry Cummings, Alton Lister, Sidney Moncrief, Creg Hodges. WOW this is amazing. here is another idea of Great teams

1974-75 GS. Warriors All about the players Al Attles head coach used all of his players everytime pure team effort..

1966-67 SIXERS The Team That Killed the CELTICS. just an idea i'm a retro guy

I've always wondered why sports games never gave this option....

I would pay $100 bucks for a NBA 2K game dedicated to only classic teams and players with guys running around in short short's, long songs and chuck taylors/converse shoes LOL!

Same thing with Madden.....

The late 80's to 1999 was the era in which i saw most of these players and the both sports were arguably more exciting IMO during that span.

Guys would play on the same teams for longer stretches of their career's together as opposed to today when players change teams like we change our underwear or want to go play with their buddies to form the so called dream team LOL!

Great news for all classic team lovers.

Great news for me as a classic team creator.

I only like playing with my superleague roster now. so 2k12 will make creating a roster of this kind less time consuming and more complete.

for 2k12 my goal is to get every franchise represented with either one of their most successfull teams or their most popular.

I have taken 7 weeks off work to get this done!!

cant wait.

OOOOK i have to say this, 2k have shot themselves in the foot overlooking the biggest element that made the jordan challenges so playable an most importantly RE-PLAYABLE!!! Simple really, the challenges!!!!

Im a huge mj fan, but without the actual challenges the mode would've just been an exhibtion mode, an basketball is at its best when they're challenges an goals to reach!! Going off for 63 in boston, or 69 in cleveland were the main reasons i loved the jordan challenges, my favourites probably being utah flu game, an madison square garden an droppin a double nickel on the knicks. Why??? Because they are two of my most memorable games i watched live, studied every move mj made an it felt amazing trying to replicate that zone he got into in those games.

Taking away that aspect has left me cold for this upcoming feature, i mean how hard would it have been to put them in this year, i hear the developers wanted to focus on rivalries..thats aload of b.s. in my opinion...

Alot of gamers wont know anything bout the Bill Russells, Wilts, an Big O's an im a huge baller yet i dont really know how good these guys really were, i know russell has gone down as one of if not the greatest defensive centre of all time, wilt its greatest scorer an Oscar Robertson the triple double machine, but i aint damn near old enuff to have seen these guys play, so how the hell are we gonna be able to get the most out of this mode without actual challenges to meet????

They are soooooooo many things they could've done this year an it seems to me they've taken there foot of the gas on this one.

As for omitting Charles Barkley, WTF???? The perfect challenge would've been the 93 finals, one of the best finals of all-time! Mj averaging 40 for the series an dan majerle goin nuts from 3point range in game 3 **** it the whole series...im guessing charles didnt want to be omitted an its a shame, the one saving grace i think is they've finally included th 95 magic, Pennnnnny Nyyyy lol an the 97-98 lakers but i still feel they missed a trick this year. i hope im wrong i really do!
OVER AN OUT!!

Barkely wasn't omitted. If they could've gotten him he would have been in the game.

So do we have pretty much every premier player in the NBA from the mid-60s to today represented in the game, with the exception of a few?

Just off the top of my head, some of the top players not represented:

Charles Barkley
Reggie Miller
Elvin Hayes
Rick Barry
George Gervin
Paul Westphall
David Thompson
Bob McAdoo

85-86 Bulls are one of the unlockable teams so Ice Man is in the game again.

forget that 01-02 lakers

the 97-98 lakers is the most exciting lakers squad, I grew up watching them, Too bad their coach was garbage.

4 All Stars that year

Shaq, Kobe, Eddie Jones, Nick Van Exel

Unfortunately, no Nick the Quick in 2K12. Sucks to have the main ballhandler and starting PG on the team be a generic CAP.
