NBA 2K12 News Post

ESPN has announced the 15 legends in NBA 2K12 and their opposing teams. Both sides should have 10-12 accurate players represented according to the article. Here's the list of players and their opponents in the game:

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
86-87 Lakers vs. Celtics

Larry Bird
85-86 Celtics vs Hawks

Julius “Dr. J” Erving
84-85 76ers vs Bucks

Wilt Chamberlain
71-72 Lakers vs Knicks

Patrick Ewing
94-95 Knicks vs Magic

Magic Johnson
90-91 Lakers vs Blazers

Michael Jordan
92-93 Bulls vs Hornets

Karl Malone
97-98 Jazz vs Spurs

Scottie Pippen
95-96 Bulls vs Sonics

Oscar Robertson
70-71 Bucks vs Lakers

Hakeem Olajuwon
93-94 Rockets vs Nuggets

Bill Russell
64-65 Celtics vs Lakers

Jerry West
70-71 Lakers vs Hawks

Isiah Thomas
88-89 Pistons vs. Bulls

John Stockton
97-98 Jazz vs. Lakers

Bonus Teams
1990-91 Warriors and 2001-02 Kings

Chris' Take: Seems to be a lot of a 'been there done that' with several of the guys and teams on the list. BUT, that doesn't mean it's still not cool (for now). Some of the guys are pretty exciting such as Oscar Robertson, Bill Russell, and Wilt Chamberlin. If the rosters from the opposing teams are spot-on as mentioned in the article, then this mode gets a lot more exciting and that appears to be the case. But really, a lot of the guys from the 90s and late 80s are rehashes of last year's teams on the Jordan Challenge. And it appears you have to play (or I'm sure pay) to unlock the teams in exhibition.

NBA 2K needs all it can to top last year's effort sales wise, I'm highly skeptical it's going to be able to match it with the NBA Lockout and a legends lineup that feels cool but somewhat rehashed as well -- but the mode should be quite cool at least one more year.

I don't think so either but I just had this thought. 85-86 season was Dr J's next to last season, it's odd they didn't choose an earlier season, that's why I thought that maybe, just maybe, Barkley might be in the game

I too doubt it though... Either way, it's gonna be fun to see what the rosters look like tomorrow.

Yeah, it's a curious choice, though I think it's the 1984-85 Sixers, not the '86 team. If Chuck was available, I can't really see Chicago facing off against Charlotte in '93 and not Phoenix. So yeah, you'd think they would have went with Philly's championship squad. Or maybe they're just banking on portlandblazer to make his ballin', nearly life-like Charles Barkley as a fill-in for the '85 team (when he was a rookie).

Yep, Kevin McHale close lined him in the Finals. Worthy held Rambo back and it started a whole mele with Kareem and Bird face to face. Series got good from that point on! Lakers lost focus and Celtics gained momentum from that 1 play!

1985 Sixers would mean Charles Barkley. That can't be right, can it?

If the 89' Pistons get Mahorn in the game look out online. (if we can play legend teams online) Laimbeer and Mahorn in the middle... You may come hard, but your going back harder.

And if the Microwave is in too... Ooohh man.

I'm loving the fact that got Pistol Pete in this game the potential for signature animations on him in sig lay ups, passing, dribbling, and shooting is just off the charts. If they can pull it off which I know they can because they pulled off Jordan last year. Wow just wow.

I'm pumped about Pistol too, if at all possible, I'll add him to my Bobcats or Lakers current teams since it's him from his rookie year and have a legit PG for the future. or maybe add him to the 93 Hornets and start a dynasty with them! possibilities are endless....

I hope they pay respect to Horace Grant's face this time:

-He should have a mustache, no goggles and more hair in his 1989 version:

-1993 should be pretty much the same as last year, although it can be revamped, white goggles slight fade and clean shaven:

-His 1995 Orlando Magic Version should be blue goggles with a black rubber frame, thin mustache and and goatee and his head fully shaven.

In order to receive the Pre-order bonus teams, Warriors and Kings, does that pre-order have to be with a particular store i.e. Gamestop/Best Buy or can it be with anyone?

I don't get the people who don't understand why Barkley (and Reggie Miller) will not be in this game. Hint: It's not because 2K didn't try to get them.

Ok...some of our favorite players (miller and barkley) are not on the game...but all I want is the players to play like themselves... I hated Shaq, but I hope they have him play like the dominant physical force that he was.. He was incredible.

I can't believe no one said Young Shaq vs. Dwight Howard yet. I'm gonna destroy Dwight, lol

Barkley is in the game.

Rookie year of the Sixers, I believe, with Dr. J.
