NBA 2K12 News Post

ESPN has announced the 15 legends in NBA 2K12 and their opposing teams. Both sides should have 10-12 accurate players represented according to the article. Here's the list of players and their opponents in the game:

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
86-87 Lakers vs. Celtics

Larry Bird
85-86 Celtics vs Hawks

Julius “Dr. J” Erving
84-85 76ers vs Bucks

Wilt Chamberlain
71-72 Lakers vs Knicks

Patrick Ewing
94-95 Knicks vs Magic

Magic Johnson
90-91 Lakers vs Blazers

Michael Jordan
92-93 Bulls vs Hornets

Karl Malone
97-98 Jazz vs Spurs

Scottie Pippen
95-96 Bulls vs Sonics

Oscar Robertson
70-71 Bucks vs Lakers

Hakeem Olajuwon
93-94 Rockets vs Nuggets

Bill Russell
64-65 Celtics vs Lakers

Jerry West
70-71 Lakers vs Hawks

Isiah Thomas
88-89 Pistons vs. Bulls

John Stockton
97-98 Jazz vs. Lakers

Bonus Teams
1990-91 Warriors and 2001-02 Kings

Chris' Take: Seems to be a lot of a 'been there done that' with several of the guys and teams on the list. BUT, that doesn't mean it's still not cool (for now). Some of the guys are pretty exciting such as Oscar Robertson, Bill Russell, and Wilt Chamberlin. If the rosters from the opposing teams are spot-on as mentioned in the article, then this mode gets a lot more exciting and that appears to be the case. But really, a lot of the guys from the 90s and late 80s are rehashes of last year's teams on the Jordan Challenge. And it appears you have to play (or I'm sure pay) to unlock the teams in exhibition.

NBA 2K needs all it can to top last year's effort sales wise, I'm highly skeptical it's going to be able to match it with the NBA Lockout and a legends lineup that feels cool but somewhat rehashed as well -- but the mode should be quite cool at least one more year.

The hardest thing to read... No 2000-2001 Lakers or Sixers team... Meaning no Afro Kobe or MVP Shaq or MVO Allen Iverson..

Now that is sad...smh

But I like everyone else.

I love the legends and teams that got picked. My only regret is that the 93 Suns with Barkely and one of the Reggie Miller Pacer teams didn't make it. Guess I will be either creating those two teams or downloading them from 2K share. Im fine with the Scottie Pippen pick, that way we get another Bulls team to play with. Glad to see the 95 Magic and 98 Lakers are on there and the 94 Rockets Woooooo. Man the 93 Hornets will be fun to play with also, but those 72 Lakers with Wilt will be crazy. 2Ksports, thank you!!! You guys are going all out. Also Dr J, some guys think attacking the rim players like Lebron and D.Wade were the first ones, to do it. Dr J will show you were it started from. Glad Ewing and the Knicks are in there, but I would have rather like to play with the 93 Knicks team. I cannot wait for this game, and guys this feature is just the tip of the iceberg, 2K hasn't even released the hardcore details about the regular gameplay, presentation and other improvements about 2K12 yet.

Barkley is on that team. Will he be in it, or replaced by a generic number 98 player remains to be seen.

I thought that was a year he had a fro?.. could be wrong. I always think about that year with Kobe because that's the year he and Jordan went back in forth in the Allstar game. It will be nice to play with high flying version of Kobe.

Just curious if they will have more teams as DLC. I am a big fan of the Legends and if they could add another 10 teams through DLC that would be great.

Pete Maravich? '94-'95 Orlando Magic? Wow.

My only letdown is no Reggie Miller and Barkley.

Having Allen Iverson would have been far better than a freaking Scottie Pippen Challenge. We already have Scottie because of micheal!! Why do we need him again? 2K doesnt understand that ALOT of the people who buy NBA 2k are teenagers. Guess what? We never saw these guys play live, so we dont have any immersion and we dont care. I respect the history of the game, but if I have never seen someone play, I cant really enjoy playing his likeness. By just adding Allen Iverson it would have made alot of people happy and would have sold alot more copies and pleased alot more people than having a Jerry West/ Scottie Pippen Challenge. You all saw the vote of Facebook. Iverson was one of the most wanted players. 2k dropped the ball.

This is pretty much the coolest thing I've ever read about a basketball video game. The awesome part about this list is that it goes well beyond the featured "legends". The opponents as well as the legend's teammates are often legends in and of themselves. It's almost sensory overload. For instance, Wilt Chamberlain's opponent in the '72 game is the New York Knicks. That yields Walt Frazier, Jerry Lucas, Earl Monroe, Phil Jackson, Bill Bradley, Dave DeBusschere and Willis Reed. That's virtually a Hall of Fame team (even though Phil's HOF induction came via coaching).

From a personal standpoint, I'm quite thrilled to see the inclusion of the '98 Spurs and '89 Pistons. I expected the return of the Bad Boys, but the '98 Spurs were a big surprise. I'm anxious to use the Admiral alongside a young Tim Duncan, while hopefully utilizing a real Vinny Del Negro and pretending Sean Elliott was actually in good health that year.

Also, the inclusion the '94 Nuggets means there will be at least one new set of retro jerseys (as Mutombo can be seen wearing).

What I'm wondering is if the opponent's floor (not just the legend's team's home floor) will once again be represented. For instance, for the Jazz-Spurs challenge, will the Delta Center court art be present as well as the Alamodome's? I mean, I wouldn't expect the Alamodome itself, but having that gnarly court art would be pretty sweet.

Either way, this is purely awesome all the way around.

Can't wait to get my hands on the Pistol. Also, 98 Lakers & Spurs FTW.

# 39 Amino @ 08/18/11 04:08 PM
Charles and Reggie work for TNT, who 2k closely worked with in 2k11 and before. They have Kevin Harlan and Steve Kerr - TNT NBA commentators. I'm sure it wouldn't be that hard to get Charles Barkley and Reggie Miller.

no Reggie, no charles?? I am so disapointed
