I don't think Finley is rated too high. Sure he was injured last year and there are other TE's that had a better season in 2009 but most of you are forgetting that he is regarded as one of the best young TE's in the league and there is a very strong possibility that he will be the best TE in football this season. He is a tight end with the speed and play-making ability of an elite wide receiver and his rating in Madden 12 reflects that.
There's a chance Cam Newton can be a great QB doesn't mean he should be rated that way until he proves it.
Finleys best year,he had 5 TD's with a great QB in a pass happy offense Marcedes Lewis doubled that in JACKSONVILLE.Also, his speed shouldn't be anywhere near Vernon Davis who runs a 4.3
Isn't Finley actually pretty slow? Don't see how he has an 86 speed rating, but hey they gave Greg Olsen an 87 speed rating so... whatever.
Also, Did Clay Matthews ever once cover anyone last year. Not sure how he has any coverage ratings let alone good ones.
Finley is fast. I'm pretty sure the Packers often lined him up at as receiver. The guy is one of the fasted tight ends in football if I remember correctly.

The heck he does! He isn't that fast. Quarless is a faster TE than Finley. Finley is a good route runner with very good agility, but he is NOT fast. Not faster than DD by any means. He runs a lot against LBs, but he does not break away from CBs by any means. I would not categorize his speed as that of an elite WR.

They lined him up at the SE or Slot to match up against smaller DBs for jump balls in the red zone, not because of his speed. He only ran a 4.66 at his pro day and a 4.82 at the combine in 2008. Quarless is faster than him with a 4.68 and 4.57 combine and pro day.

I agree. He does not have elite speed. He is a good leaper though, and is pretty darn agile for a TE.
Watch this from 2009. Rarely do you see him run away from anyone. In fact, at the 1:35 mark he gets caught from behind by Jared Allen.
Jared Allen keeps running straight while Finley cuts left and loses his footing. You don't watch many Packers games if you think Quarless is faster than Finley. Going by 40 times is laughable. Greg Jennings ran a 4.5 40, but does he play at that speed?

I have seen every Packer game either on TV or in person since 1995. Quarless is a faster, more agile TE, but is raw. Quarless lacks the ball skills that Finley impresses. Notice those jump balls in the red zone. He separates from nobody, but makes the catch because of his size and hands. He is easy to blanket down the field, but near impossible to out jump when in position. Allen still ran him down regardless of what Finley was doing. On that same play, he was still caught by the back end of the defense. There were not any plays where he outran a CB or S. In fact, there are some plays in there where he beats a LB for a catch, the LB gets out of position, then comes back 5 yards later to make the tackle.
Jennings did not run a 4.50 as you say. He ran a 4.42 at the combine in 2006, a near elite time regardless of position. Please get your facts straight.
Who can outrun a DB when the offense is on the 5 yard line?
His low was a 4.42 at the combine. He also ran worse than that.
Lastly, when did Quarless get any kind of separation last year?
Actually his average verifiable time was 4.42 after the electronic readjustment. His range was 4.34 to 4.51. All players actually have 6 times because 2 from each run are hand-started and then re-adjusted after the combine. The teams don't even get all of the numbers until the week after the combine is over.
Finley had several chances to outrun the D in that video I provided. How many times did you see him outrun the D for a TD? Not many.
As for Quarless I can think of 3 in particular. The one for 23 against MIA, the one for 21 against WAS, and one in his best game against DET for 20; all as a rookie forced into a starting role. He is a raw talent and the reason he had to split time with Crabtree. He had trouble hanging on to balls, something Finley has not had trouble with.
Outrunning the D? Are you serious? You are acting like Finley is a 95 speed. He's only an 86.
Quarless was open vs zone D, he didn't get separation in man to man.
I would put him closer to an 80 than a 90. If you think that Finley is for one second faster than an INJURED Driver, you are insane!
So you are saying that Quarless never ran against man? He was in man the whole season because we lined him up as an H-Back on passing downs! He was on OLBs and Nickle defenders every 2nd and 3rd down the whole season! Did you watch any games? If it weren't for Quarless having unreliable hands and sometimes running the wrong routes he would be more than a physical specimen. Please provide some REAL evidence to the contrary.
I think Finley runs pretty well. And that is in shortened seasons due to injuries.
He's not a bad runner. He's pretty agile, but he doesn't separate from anyone. More of a let him run and just chuck it up to outjump a smaller CB kind of player. Not fast by any means.
Finley had to cut twice on that play and griffin had a full head of steam. You seem to have some vendetta against Finley or a love fest for Quarless. You're really trying too hard.
