Overall, positive vibes. I liked Madden 10 a lot; it was the best Madden next-gen IMO. Didn't play 11. I'd be shocked if Madden 12 isn't the best in the series, possibly by a wide margin.

As a charter member of the Graphics Ho Club, I'm happier than Charlie Sheen in a brothel with the look of this game, especially the close-ups and cut scenes. Love the grass stains on unis and scuffed helmets (that wasn't in 10).

Agree with many that very slow is the speed to go. I think that's what I played on 10 as well. Running game is great. You're rewarded for making right decisions, following your blocks, being judicious with the sprint button, and you're punished for making wrong decisions.

Passing is OK, thought I expect it to be much better with silder adjustments and in the final build. Biggest complaint, like in NCAA, is the super LBs knocking down passes. If they don't so something about this it will be extremely disappointing.

Also, maybe it's just me but depending on the direction of the sun and the angle of the light, it's sometimes difficult to distinguish receivers from DBs for a split second, as both appear too dark.

Too many sacks, but, like I said, I haven't touched the sliders.

I like the kicking meter and feel it doesn't take long to adjust to after playing NCAA. I also like the panned out camera view on kicks. But if you're on one of the hash marks, I noticed you get a better feel for the angle from the alternate view (either L or R trigger, I think).

I hear some kind of Bears fight song after they score. Hope they have others in there, including the Redskins, Chargers and Lions (as wimpy as their fight song is it's funny).

Looking forward to the 30th. Hopefully it's not a bug-filled abomination like NCAA.
This I don't mind. LBs swatting everything outta the air left and right I can deal with. Nick Barnett covering the flat then jet packing straight up and INTing a ball 1 handed meant for a WR on a cutback route is ridonkulous. This wont be fixed and not a gamebreaker but it's B.S. nonetheless.

perhaps this is new...can;t recall

AI *clock awareness*

I'm down 9-7 with 1:45 to go.....i complete a pass to about the CPU 31....FG territory.

so from here I could run the clock & kick GWFG....but the CPU also knows this & proceeds to use his 3 TO to preserve clock

i do end up kicking the FG but 1:00+ is still on the clock for the CPU

I don;t recall the CPU being this *aware* in previous versions....am I wrong?

Finally downloaded the demo, played a few games on All-pro (slow speed, threshold 35). While the presentation elements are all very nice, I just can't get over the animations in general. I have seen very few tackle animations that realistically branched into a second defender coming in to assist in the tackle. Either the first guy smokes him, or he breaks the tackle and moves onto the next 1 vs. 1 situation...there are very few instances where multiple defenders are piling on and realistically affecting the outcome.

Everything feels herky jerky to me, and there are a lot of repetitive animations. Seeing 3 O-lineman pancake defenders with the exact same animation side by side at the same time is really annoying. Maybe it's just me, but this game will never be good to me until they get an accurate representation of physics and some true gang tackling to go along with it.

The best part about the demo, was the fact there was no commentary.

There isn't more than 3 tacklers per ballcarrier with the new tackling system.

Well then I stand corrected, there are zero instances of this happening. I didn't study the tackles close but now that you say that it sounds about right, once you get 2 guys engaged with someone the 3rd defender just kinda tumbles over the pile or does some wierd bullfighting sidestep type move.

it would be interesting to scout a game (or 2) this pre-season and actually log how many 3 man tackles you see.....non goaline.

seeing how the NFL is now a passing league I bet for 4 15 min quarters it's quite low.......

Well, yeah, when you mentioned gang tackling, just wanted to let you know that the new tackling system allowed up to 3 tacklers.

The main thing to me is they got rid of a lot of suction.

I HAVE seen my share of gang tackles. But in the NFL, it's true: it doesn't happen so much. The game is so fast that unless you see a guy trying to stuff it up the middle, you don't see more than 3 guys on the ball carrier. By the time two guys each the carrier, he's going down. I'd much rather have this than Pro-Tak.

Edit: Watch this video and count how many times Chris Johnson is tackled by more than 3 guys. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoUr82vUx60

Edit 2: "But Johnson is awesome!" Then watch Moreno: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92owAaBGf_A

The more I play, the more I like it. Finally excited for the release of Madden again!

Played as Bears last night...Forte is a beast. 10 carries, 190 yds, 2 TDs on pro default sliders. And is it just me, or is the Chicago O-line that much better than the Green Bay defensive line?!!

even tho i probably wont be buying it, i gotta say i felt madden was really tuned better out the gate...especially noticeable in the passing game on default All Pro. even tho i was playing against the packers, it wasnt like playing the '85 bears..which is what almost every team in ncaa turns into on defense.

i did like the new presentation as well, and i did like how when players get injured, they actually focus on it and give u a replay of what happened to the guy. ncaa needs to get that in their game cuz players get hurt all the time and u have no clue most times until a report comes up later or u notice ur guy is out of the play then manually check.

I didnt really get a big feel for DPP, and maybe thats a good thing. saw it affect a few players but nothing crazy. dont think i had more than 4 ppl in the list at any given time which is ok. def dont want it ruling the game and feeling like it unnaturally alters gameplay. basically if they get online franch together, i'd be in line to buy it. im curious to see what the offline franch verdict is once ppl dive deep into it.

You're in good hands with Alstott...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_RSf0...eature=related

Either way, its not necessarily about counting specifically when there is 3 guys directly on a ball carrier...it's the fact that in real life everyone around them is effecting their direction, momentum, balance. In some of those clips if you count the OL involved you have 6-7 guys involved in effecting the runner and whether or not he goes down all at once.

Obviously its a video game, and replicating real life is very hard...but its definitely time we start seeing a shift towards trying to anyways. I'd just like to see an attempt at replicating some of the "struggle" for yards you see in the Mike Alstott video. Little things like DT's sticking out their arms as guys run through holes, turning their bodies, slowing them down slightly, causing them to stumble.

Right now its either all or nothing, you are either the guy making the tackle or you are just standing around.

The whole Madden franchise is very hit and miss for me. I loved Madden '10 and still play it, but I couldn't play '11. It just didn't click for me. However, I'm sold by the demo for '12. To me, it plays like I wish NCAA '12 played. I'm not seeing the super-LB problem at all on the demo. Or if so, it's very, very, very minor compared to the superhuman, physics-defying acrobatics I've seen from the NCAA '12 linebackers.

The passing game feels really good to me, and the player models look really nice.

Agree completely. NCAA is so close to being great this year but it's flaws really kill it. Madden, at the very worst, is average in the areas where NCAA is a disaster gameplay-wise.

Like you, I enjoyed Madden '10 but passed on '11. Really looking forward to this game after the demo.

I guess we have similar standards for football games, ehh. I just couldn't stand Madden '11. Something about the gameplay was just wrong--I feel like it took a big step back from Madden '10, but a lot of people disagreed.

And yes, NCAA '12 has the potential to be great, but it has some crippling gameplay issues that really detract from my overall enjoyment. I'm sick of waiting on the patch already.

I feel like the Madden '12 gameplay is very balanced and fair from what I've seen in the demo.

Another year that I'm gonna pass on Madden. They need new player models, you would think after a few years they would improve them but they look the same as they did 4 years ago. And the skating just drives me crazy! Thanks for another year without video football EA.

I haven't touched the demo in a week and just had a great animation play out. Hester caught one in the back of the endzone and was clearly out of bounds. He signaled to the ref he caught it and started pointing up to the replay booth.

Nice.

Didn't see that in prior games.

I feel this is the best presentation for a football title, just curious if any1 agrees or am I just caught in the moment ? honestly

Maybe it's just me but I thought the players looked great.
