NBA 2K12 News Post

Multiple outlets are spilling the beans about NBA 2K12's newest mode: NBA's Greatest. The mode seems to be an extension of The Jordan Challenge mode that was available in NBA 2K11.

This time around Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Julius Erving, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan and 10 other unannounced all-time greats will be featured in this new mode.

At this time, the unannounced players are not the only thing shrouded in mystery here. It's unclear how many different scenarios or teams will even be included in this mode. This is being intentionally done so fans debate who they think should be included, according to 2K Sports.

The folks at 2K Sports want to go even further when it comes to re-creating moments in the NBA's Greatest mode by mimicking broadcasts from the '80s and even '60s. This means different camera angles, replay styles or even black and white video in order to bring people into the historical aspects of these games.

The NBA's Greatest mode seems like a really smart one when considering the ongoing NBA lockout, as well as the success of The Jordan Challenge mode last year.

I'm going to take a guess here for some of the other legends, and since it talks about 60's, gotta go way back for some.

- Shaq (since he just retired)
- Sir Charles Barkley
- Hakeem
- Drexler
- Dominique
- Pistol Pete Maravich (hoping for this one, dude was the man)
- Jerry West
-Wilt the Stilt Chamberlain
- Bill Russell/ John Havlicek

I'm sure this is great for the guys that are in to historic teams and players and such, but this is not for me. Probably a good marketing strategy because of the lock out, but I will probably skip this version then. I did not care about any of the jordan stuff last year and I don't care about historic players or anything this year. I play Association, and hopefuly sometime shortly they will add online association, but i will never touch the historic stuff.

Don't worry man, the game's still gonna hve the current stuff, if the lockout last they'll update the roster whenever it ends. Don't think you should pass this up just because the marketing plan is to sell the classic teams.

Takin' shots at my boy? That's low. Lol
Let the late great legend of Tracy McGrady die!!!

Back on track.....This is tailor made for the return of Sir Charles Barkley to video games! The stars have aligned. Don't let me down Charles! Quick question...Do y'all think that would be just as big of news as Jordan gracing the cover last year? The return of Barkley!

Did anyone ask about the commentary? IGN said the arenas and overlays and stuff are gonna be era specific. What about the commentary?

So, why post in this thread which is celebrating all these classic players/teams? And 2K is still including current players in the game. Why do some here act like 2K is taking out Lebron, Wade and Kobe?

Not as big as the MJ announcement last year, but it'd still be huge.

Please give us Barkley.

Didn't watch him at all, so I can't agree or not. However, I do realize (and hope you do too) that he revolutionized the "flashy" aspect of the game according to what little I've read/seen, including his free-throw-line dunk and under-the-backboard layup.

Dr.J was the NBA's first superstar who trancended color lines into other areas outside of just basketball. Of course you had All-Time great NBA players before him, but it was Dr.J who got the ball rolling in terms of superstar players.

He came into the NBA at 25 and left the game as the greatest SF in NBA history, eventually we had Bird come through to knock him out of that spot. Im not sure what more anyone expected more out of him as an All-Time great, he has a NBA Championship, and led his team to 3 NBA Finals.

I didnt get to see him play but I can respect his contributions to the league as being an All-Time great.

People tend to underrate him because he played for the 76ers, who have historically been abysmal ever since Erving, Moses, & just as importantly Pat Williams left.

Having totally full classic rosters through and through with no players missing seems really unlikely but again, it'd be cool if I were wrong.
This but more filled out than last year depending on the team.
