NBA 2K12 News Post

Multiple outlets are spilling the beans about NBA 2K12's newest mode: NBA's Greatest. The mode seems to be an extension of The Jordan Challenge mode that was available in NBA 2K11.

This time around Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Julius Erving, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan and 10 other unannounced all-time greats will be featured in this new mode.

At this time, the unannounced players are not the only thing shrouded in mystery here. It's unclear how many different scenarios or teams will even be included in this mode. This is being intentionally done so fans debate who they think should be included, according to 2K Sports.

The folks at 2K Sports want to go even further when it comes to re-creating moments in the NBA's Greatest mode by mimicking broadcasts from the '80s and even '60s. This means different camera angles, replay styles or even black and white video in order to bring people into the historical aspects of these games.

The NBA's Greatest mode seems like a really smart one when considering the ongoing NBA lockout, as well as the success of The Jordan Challenge mode last year.

Thank you for providing me with an excuse to once again post this picture:

And yeah, you're right. Sometimes my friends would see an old elementary photo and they'd be trying to tell me I had a Schintzius, but it was clearly a Wolf. Dwayne's was by design, a full-blown mullet. Wolf and me, it was just kind of like we had normal hair once and just kind of didn't get it cut when we were supposed to while at the same time not fully committing to really growing it out.

So yeah, on one hand, thank god my mom never met Dwayne Schintzius. But on the other hand, how cool would it have been if my stepdad was Dwayne Schintzius?

I believe this is the best possible list that 2k could use for the "Greatest" Mode. I wanted to add the 1999 Spurs (twin towers) and the 1995 Magic (Shaq & Penny) just not enough room.

1. 1965 Celtics--Bill Russell, J.Havlicek (9 titles in 60's)
2. 1971 Bucks--Lew Alcindor, O.Robertson (2 titles in 70's)
3. 1972 Lakers--Wilt Chamberlain, J.West (69 regular season wins)
4. 1973 Knicks--Walt Frazier, W.Reed (2 titles in 70's)
5. 1983 76ers--Julius Erving, M.Malone (1 title in 80's)
6. 1986 Celtics--Larry Bird, McHale, Parrish (3 titles in 80's)
7. 1987 Lakers--Magic Johnson, Kareem, Worthy (4 titles in 80's)
8. 1989 Pistons--Isaiah Thomas, J.Dumars (2 consecutive titles)
9. 1990 Blazers--Clyde Drexler (2 Finals appearances in 90's)
10. 1992 Bulls--Michael Jordan, S.Pippen (6 titles in 90's)
11. 1993 Suns--Charles Barkley (one of the great 90's teams)
12. 1994 Knicks--Patrick Ewing (added to play Miller's Pacers)
13. 1994 Pacers--Reggie Miller (added to play Ewing's Knicks)
14. 1995 Rockets--Hakeem Olajuwan (2 consecutive titles)
15. 1998 Jazz--Karl Malone, J. Stockton (2 Finals appearances in 90's)

My favorite team of all time.
Man I wish, I'd also love to see the '95 Spurs (Robinson's MVP year).

Has anyone really thought about who these team will be facing? One thing I wondered is whether or not these legends' teams will be facing each other or other teams. I've seen a few lists here of possible teams but they're 15 teams from 15 different seasons. Would there be 30 teams so every game is accurate or will they be teams that actually played classic games against each other with some teams being used multiple times for different challenges?

I've kind of been wondering that myself. My guess is some of the teams may overlap (Magic vs. Larry) but I also have to think some "3rd party" teams would have to join in, similar to how we had a "Jordan Challenge" in 2K11 while it still featured ten other classic teams in addition to the Jordan squads. With a pre-order inclusion of the '91 Warriors and '02 Kings, it seems likely that we'll have at least a handful of other classic squads.

I hope you're right. I'd hate to be restricted to only 15 teams, especially since there was 17 or 18 in last year's game. I have faith in 2K, but like every year, there silence worries me.
