NBA 2K12 News Post

Multiple outlets are spilling the beans about NBA 2K12's newest mode: NBA's Greatest. The mode seems to be an extension of The Jordan Challenge mode that was available in NBA 2K11.

This time around Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Julius Erving, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan and 10 other unannounced all-time greats will be featured in this new mode.

At this time, the unannounced players are not the only thing shrouded in mystery here. It's unclear how many different scenarios or teams will even be included in this mode. This is being intentionally done so fans debate who they think should be included, according to 2K Sports.

The folks at 2K Sports want to go even further when it comes to re-creating moments in the NBA's Greatest mode by mimicking broadcasts from the '80s and even '60s. This means different camera angles, replay styles or even black and white video in order to bring people into the historical aspects of these games.

The NBA's Greatest mode seems like a really smart one when considering the ongoing NBA lockout, as well as the success of The Jordan Challenge mode last year.

yea his FG% sucked but he scored 63 in a game in 1949 which wasnt broken till Elgin broke it 10 years later, then wilt with 100. If you want a good read about basketball Kyoto then read 8 men who shook the world of basketball.

It's funny, I was actually just reading about Jumpin' Joe Fulks last night (no joke). I just started reading Free Darko's Undisputed Guide to Pro Basketball History and when discussing the early years of the NBA, Fulks' name obviously came up. They spoke of the same fact you mentioned, how he'd dropped 63, which was the high until Baylor came through.

And yeah, I bet it'll be a tough get to slide him into the game this year. However, my hope is that with the inclusion of at least some classic teams from around that era (and with the inclusion of true short shorts and other retro accessories), it may become easier for 2K consumers to replicate these times. Just as we had a ton of folks combine to create classic teams throughout the 80's, 90's, and '00's in 2K11, I'm hopeful we'll be able to dip a little bit deeper into the past for 2K12.

One thing I would love to see in Magic Johnson's games is his comeback in the 1992 All-Star Game. Playing that particular game would be awesome

shaqs definitely a alltime great, as far as i'm concerned plus they've got the 02 kings on here with the pre-order so i'm sure he's on here and i hope they've got his magic on here 2 and hell have some of the best chalenges on the game for example:

40+ points 20+ rebounds in the finals vs sixers in 01

or any thing along those lines I just can't see shaq not being on there

The '02 Kings are in the game? Where did you read that?

I'll see if I can scrape up the quote somewhere, but there was a confirmation from a 2K producer here that the '02 Kings would be available for those who pre-order 2K (the '91 Warriors are rumored to be the other pre-order classic).

Really? That's pretty cool. Maybe they'll release more 2000 teams via DLC.

Yes I agree, it'd certainly be cool if more were on the horizon. But here are the quotes:

First from Kotaku:
Quote:
A pre-order bonus could be a hint at what that might entail. Preorders will receive codes for two classic teams for use in the game, the 1990-1991 Golden State Warriors of Chris Mullin, Tim Hardaway and Mitch Richmond, and the 2000-2001 Sacramento Kings of Chris Webber, Vlade Divac and Jason Williams.
Then clarification from SimBaller:
Quote:
It's ACTUALLY the 2001-02 Kings team, not the 2000-01 team. This gets you Webber, Divac, Bibby, Peja, Hedo, Bobby Jackson, Doug Christie, G-Force, Scot Pollard, and...Funderburke if my memory serves me correctly.

I'd like to take these 2001-02 Kings and give them a title. Digital justice.

# 231 dochalladay32 @ 08/08/11 11:04 PM
I'm hoping the Warriors and Kings teams are on top of the ones we are getting, otherwise, no offense to Kings and Warriors fans, it's a waste of some slots. I do want to play with the Run TMC Warriors though, but no one stands out as a legend on the team, though Hardaway, Richmond, and Mullin were awesome.

Mullin is a legend IMO. Dream Teamer, one of the greatest shooters in NBA history and a Hall of Fame member.

He was also one of the best college players in his era and helped turn the Big East into the powerhouse conference that it is.

Yeah, Mullin was awesome. And his haircut is another reason why he needs to be in the game.

# 238 23 @ 08/09/11 02:28 PM
lol, lay off of ole Joe

Man I miss alot of names and just that period of basketball period

Tim bug, Mitch, Mullin and Sarunas off the bench.. was some great basketball to watch... YES IT WAS!

# 239 youvalss @ 08/09/11 02:34 PM
Sarunas to me was a kind of a Ginobili to some extent (maybe less athletic). When I watch him now he really reminds me of Ginobili.

# 240 23 @ 08/09/11 02:39 PM
His frantic style was definitely in line with Ginobili

Shorter and less athletic but possibly a little stronger
