NBA 2K12 News Post

Multiple outlets are spilling the beans about NBA 2K12's newest mode: NBA's Greatest. The mode seems to be an extension of The Jordan Challenge mode that was available in NBA 2K11.

This time around Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Julius Erving, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan and 10 other unannounced all-time greats will be featured in this new mode.

At this time, the unannounced players are not the only thing shrouded in mystery here. It's unclear how many different scenarios or teams will even be included in this mode. This is being intentionally done so fans debate who they think should be included, according to 2K Sports.

The folks at 2K Sports want to go even further when it comes to re-creating moments in the NBA's Greatest mode by mimicking broadcasts from the '80s and even '60s. This means different camera angles, replay styles or even black and white video in order to bring people into the historical aspects of these games.

The NBA's Greatest mode seems like a really smart one when considering the ongoing NBA lockout, as well as the success of The Jordan Challenge mode last year.

Not sure if it has been mentioned yet, but noticed this nice tidbit in the linked article:

"The historic games feature the entire team rosters, accurate stadiums, and are presented to look like TV broadcasts from their respective era."

This is fantastic. I can't wait for 2k12.

2k11 is my favorite sports game ever. It can only get better folks.

Heres hoping the teams we want are in

Well judging from that video, the Rockets are in...and it looks like 2k has really defined the individual player models/ jerseys this year. I really hope that the Suns make it in this years game, along with Penny and Shaq on the Magic. Now THAT would get me really hyped

I saw old school Hawks for sure, Randy Wittman was in a clip, pretty sure that was Kevin Duckworth on the Blazers also. Classic Rockets in there too Kenny Smith an Otis Thorpe trailing Mike.

Anyway, really stoked about this game now. You guys see anything else exciting?

Im 21 and I like this news, but I can understand where most people are coming from....I understand that everyone doesn't care about the old school so they think its taking time from other ingame stuff.............but whatever I hope they made a good dunk contest so I can recreate the old dunk offs!

There has to be a Shaq and Kobe team, but all I want is a 2001 76ers squad

If we're gonna see Tim Hardaway in the game...They better put the killer crossover in as his signature gather(only if they added the ability to dribble after the move)

This is awesome. It will truly visually enhance the classic games to look at them in a traditional presentation of their time. I wished for this in the 2K11 or 2K12 wishlist thread, I think. If not, I at least thought about it a lot. Ha ha.

Good eye to the first guy that noticed the other teams in the clip.

I saw the Hawks (dominique), The blazers (Drexler), and the Rockets and if you pause it right before jordan takes off from the freethrow line, you can see #34 THE DREAM!!! and vernon maxwell, Otis thorpe and i believe Kenny smith.

Really, Iverson did a lot for the 2k franchise, they have to put him in the game

It'd be the coolest thing ever if I were proven wrong, but I interpret that comment as basically saying, "It's not just the legends, but the teams they were playing on from particular years as well." Because you know how sometimes games like NBA Street just has the legends and that's it? I think this article is saying that's not the case. Having totally full classic rosters through and through with no players missing seems really unlikely but again, it'd be cool if I were wrong.

# 119 sportjames23 @ 08/03/11 05:45 PM
Yeah, probably too good to be true, but I have seen some players that haven't been in 2K games for a while (A.C. Green, Kenny Smith, Vernon Maxwell, etc.), so who knows?

One, it's awesome to see the '94 Rockets represented (Hakeem Olajuwon, Kenny Smith, Vernon Maxwell and Otis Thorpe all spotted, as others have mentioned). And second, it's cool to see 2K didn't just leave the 2K11 classic rosters as they were. For instance, I saw a real Kevin Duckworth this time around.
