NCAA Football 12 News Post

Christian McLeod has confirmed the NCAA Football 12 roster glitch will be addressed in an upcoming patch. The fix for now? Are you ready for this? Delete your named roster file.

What are the problems you ask? Here are just a few comments from the OS community.

One of the NCAA Football 12 Software Engineer's posted this topic (roster related), in hopes to get some things resolved.

When you edit the name of a scrambling QB it changes them to balanced and editing a balanced QB changes them to scrambling. I noticed when i downloaded a roster with names that Denard Robinson was shown as a balanced QB so i went back to the default roster and he was back to a scrambler. So i played a game with the named roster and he attempted zero scrambles. I then played a game with the default roster and he scrambled five times in the first two drives.

I seen this last week when I downloaded Fairdale Kings rosters for the 360. It just isn't the QBs tendancy that changes, it is also the pass rusher, coverage guys, hard hitters.

Everybody tendancy description changes......

I noticed it also effected the Kick off and punt returns for the CPU. And effected the punt blocking the user. With no names, I was able to return punts back for a TD sometimes with a good enough returner.

With names, the gunners get down the field super fast like they did in NCAA 11.

With out names, the CPU was able to return punts and kick offs back for TDs on me. With names, their blocking is non existent and the cpu have a hard time making it to the 30 yard line on kick offs and on Punt returns they get 3 yards now, my gunners get down the field so fast now I be right on top of them as soon as they catch the ball.

So as it stands, no names seem to give the better game play.

Being that other players tendancies have changed, I noticed some things.

1. LBs get a lot of tips and INTs on named rosters, even when they aren't in position to do so.

2. Safeties who suppose to be heavy hitters, turn into coverage guys and Intercept passes they normally wouldn't.

3. WRs get off the line quicker on named rosters and they hit stick tackle people on Ints. I had intercepted a pass and a WR hit sticked me.

4. Thomas with his new found strength is now more likely to keep the ball on read option plays. More like 90% of the time now. This was the same way in NCAA 11 when you made a QB's strength too high.

5. DEs don't generate a pass rush on named rosters like they do on non named rosters.

Now I am REALLY glad I didn't delete the default roster. I will have that to play until they fixed the name rosters issue.

Way too many players to edit get them back to what they suppose to be tendancy wise. Which is another thing, with the work around even though they back to their correct tendancy, their ratings will be out of whack.

Good players will be made weaker, weaker bad players will be made stronger.

Same issue with no patch.

Also messed around, it changes the tendency for every single player. Im thinking that the rosters will have to be named again if this is patched.

How can they patch it to go in reverse and correct tendencies on already named rosters?

Looks like a more realistic patch is a fix to keep it from changing for future named rosters.

Just received confirmation that this issue is being looked into heavily by the guys at EA. Be patient--there is a sizable amount of testing with different design divisions to identify the issue and look into a possible fix.

It would be helpful if you can please put together a chart showing the following for all positions affected by this issue. I would then like to provide this information to EA. This would also help with making community edits if necessary. Thanks.

For what it's worth, you don't really have to touch strength to get QB's to be scrambler. Just lower their trucking to 10 or so. It's unrealistic to see QB's truck in most cases anyway. I got Denard Robinson to be a scrambler without touching strength.

Yes, thank God.

I'm still enjoying the game, I don't think this is a gamebreaker it's just very annoying. As long as the patch fixes this I'm fine. I don't have any issues with deep balls like others seem to. Maybe I just don't throw deep enough.

Been keeping up with this thread all day at work, and finally got home to take a look at the problem.

Every position is effected. Essentially two of the three tendencies are switched, ala it's something in the table is screwed up. Obviously the one listed on the ratings screen is not being recognized by the game. This is a huge problem because these tendencies obviously effect the game engine. Yes it's most notable in QB's, but I don't want my balanced cornerback being a hard hitter, etc.

Disappointing to say the least.

It's getting worked on. No ETA for fix, but they are aware.

Every year I think I can put up my PS2 and NCAA Football 06 into the attic for good, and every year I inevitably end up trotting it out, disappointed after a couple of weeks.

Meh. I can still play the game despite the screwy bug. I got both my named and fake named default rosters I can play with. And I'm probably going to keep playing my dynasty either way. Don't mind starting over now that I stepped away from the issue for a bit.

Slow down with the personal attacks if you want to remain a member of this site. Thats your last warning. If anything I'm a 2k guy so I have no idea where you got the EA yes man thing from.

Again if you continue to buy a "broken" game, who's fault is that?

But you can railroad me and devalue my opinion?

Let me clarify this before someone rips into me, I haven't done this yet.

I'm still playing it and having a fun time with my coaching career dynasty mainly because it's one that I just **** around in and have fun with and don't really worry about realism. But a lot of my enthusiasm for this game is just being sucked out.

Obviously back in the PS2 days, there wasn't the possibility to patch things. But I don't recall having an issue that was so glaring that it needed patching ASAP. Nowadays, we have to have a patch on release day nearly every year with multiple patches to follow it. Now, I realize the same is true throughout all video games these days, but I'd just thought i would note that.

Is it so hard to discover some of these issues though? Really, the coaching prestige issue could be figured out with a couple of test-runs through dynasty. You would think they would test to see if editing had any negative consequences. I've never been a game tester, nor a game designer, but it just feels to me like a lot of easy to discover things slip through that would be easily discoverable with a couple of days of testing.

I'll wait and see, but I've grown tired of continually getting my hopes up that "This is the year!" to be let down and hopping on a game that came out when I was in 8th grade (I'm going into my sophomore year of college now) because its a more fun experience.

I dont know what you mean about railroading but I can have an opinion about your opinion and vice versa. What you cant do is personally attack other members which is what you did. My advice again is stay away from the personal attacks.

Ok, sorry, water under the bridge. We see this issue in two entirely different lights.

The ratings decide how effective the player is once he has made the decision, but it is the tendency itself that determines when and how the player makes the decision in the first place.

Example: You can play around with QB ratings and if you give a guy high enough throw accuracy and other key ratings, even if he has high speed and acceleration, he will be labeled balanced by the game. Now, even though he could have higher scramble important ratings than other qbs in the game that are labeled scramblers, not only will he run a lot less, but when he does run he will usually run in a straight line and get tackled. A qb who is labeled a scrambler, even though he might be slower and less agile than the other qb will run more often and make better decisions when running.

Think of it this way
Ratings = ability
Tendency = logic

The problem is that this bug takes away the link between the two. It takes away your ability to trigger the correct tendency based on ratings... so even though Robinson is a beast for scrambling ratings wise, he doesn't have the logic that tells him to run, avoid being tackled, etc.
i understand and it make total sense with QB but i`m still not seeing how different the rest of the position would play... a Pass rusher vs Balance.. does anyone really saw any other difference rather than the QB position?

We simply want to play college football and EA is the only company allowed to make a college football game.

So if I want to play college football, I must buy this piece of trash. I think everyone is just fed up because EA has eliminated freedom of choice and continues to provide a bug ridden product to it's customers.
I see your point but wouldnt it be smarter to wait a month or two til they iron out the bugs before you bought the game. If this happens every year and you know it happens every year, why not just wait until the first patch before buying the game?

I'm sure this has been asked and answered but no way I'm going to search through all these pages fast enough to find it: Does this only effect games that are played or if I simed a season in dynasty mode are the simed stats going to be screwed up as well?

Well this is disappointing. Just spent all this time fixing MSU's roster and was JUST about to start my dynasty.
