Madden 12 News Post

Justin Dewiel, Community Manager of Madden NFL, has made a post on the EA Forums detailing the current status and future of Online Franchise in Madden NFL 12.

Quote:
Hey guys, Justin Dewiel, your EA SPORTS Community Manager for the Madden NFL franchise, here with a short update on where we currently are with Franchise mode, and a look at where we’re heading. So many times throughout the year I get the pleasure of revealing features that you, the community, have been asking for.

Revealing our Offline Franchise mode feature set was one of those days. It’s no secret that our Franchise mode was lacking features that our fans expected. This community feedback was the #1 reason behind the renewed focus on Franchise mode in Madden NFL 12. For those of you who missed all of the details on the improvements/additions made to Offline Franchise, you can catch up on everything by clicking here. I feel confident in saying that you’ll be impressed with the experience this year and I look forward to hearing your feedback.

Since we revealed the details of the Offline Franchise mode, the most requested question has been, “What upgrades have you made to Online Franchise mode?” We set aggressive development goals for Madden NFL 12 – from the improvements to Offline Franchise and Superstar modes, to the complete overhaul of visuals, addition of custom playbooks, a new collision system, our yet to be discussed Online Communities feature, and more. When it comes to the tight schedule of an annual development cycle, we have to make tough decisions, and it became apparent as we continued to work through our campaign that there was no way to deliver a deep, fully connected Online Franchise experience that you deserve this year. Therefore, there will be no additions to Online Franchise mode in Madden NFL 12.

That said, I can say with absolute certainty that delivering a feature-rich Online Franchise mode is a top priority for the Madden leadership as we move forward. It’s crucial that we transform how and where fans interact with our games and each other. Modes like NCAA Football’s Online Dynasty or FIFA 12’s Football Club are leading the way in building connected experiences, and you can expect that the Madden NFL franchise will aggressively work to meet and exceed your expectations for Online Franchise.

Community is the heart of everything we do at EA SPORTS. We hope you’ve felt represented in everything from the Madden NFL 12 Cover Vote to the new features in this year’s game. Bringing passionate fans together, like you, is the focus of Online Communities feature that we’ll detail on July 25th. We’re excited about sharing more information soon and seeing what you’ll create.

As always, we look forward to hearing your thoughts!

ONLY WARNING

This is not going to turn into a debate thread on why one mode is better then others.

You want to post and react to the news and state your opinion that is fine. You will not start telling other people they are wrong for theirs.

Hopefully that is understood.

Smh no wonder why they have released info on online franchise last....and I still cant understand why can't they just use the same franchise as offline...appears I will be passing on madden this year...

Well, I probably won't be buying Madden until it goes on sale or drops in price. Three years ago we were told that Online Franchise would be pretty generic, but they would be able to add our most wanted features to the mode because they built it on a server. We were told they would be able to add salary caps, trade logic, etc. throughout the real NFL season and it should match the offline franchise quickly. Well, Madden 10 comes out, I buy it and start an online franchise and we get in a season, but it was so bland we didn't want to do a second one until they put in the updates we were promised. So we waited and waited and waited and there was never a single update outside of one roster update(that was still wrong).

Madden 11 roles around and it has no updates either, but there was still hope they could update it throughout the year like they previously said. Nothing happened to it either besides some roster updates. Now Madden 12 is here and we still have no updates. What is the deal?

If EA doesn't want to update it because no one really plays it, that's ridiculous. Who wants to play an online franchise that is pretty much 16 play now games with friends? The mode is never going to get much traffic until EA can deliver on the promises from 3 years ago. Look at NCAA. Online dynasty is probably played 10x as much as online franchise because it matches the offline dynasty in every single feature. Nothing is left out this year in the online dynasty.

This is disappointing news, but not all too surprising. Like I have already said, I'll be waiting to buy Madden later in the year because I just don't see a big enough draw to make me want it day one. Since the introduction of online dynasty in NCAA 09 I have probably played close to 50 seasons in OD's with 09, 10, and 11. I look to add another 10+ this season too with NCAA 12. In offline dynasty I have probably played 7-8 seasons since 09 because once I played in an online dynasty I couldn't really get into an offline dynasty.

Madden 12 looks to have a good franchise finally this gen, but I have gotten to the point where I don't really care much about the offline franchise, but I do the online franchise because that is what most interests me in all sports games.

Game-play > graphics, always. I still can look at the graphics of Madden 04 on, or 2k5, or APF, or NFL Gameday, etc, and it's still "good enough". It would still be good enough if the actual Madden 12 game had a ton more features, innovations, a new engine, more dynamic unscripted-like, new pre-snap adjustment and passing mechanisms, create a play, revolutionizing/streamlining packages etc etc....all the great suggestions people on OS have been posting for months and years.
Sorry man, but Madden on the old gen was horrible visually. I played it and had a ball until I transitioned to NFL 2K, but it looked really bad. Not to mention some of the ridiculous tackle animations, most notably the Ack-I've-Been-Shot-In-The-Back tackle.

Don't knock graphics and presentation. That stuff matters along with gameplay, and is a big reason why people adore The Show and NBA 2K.

What's gnna happen next year...madden 13 offline franchise and lackluster gameplay isn't going to see improvements because of online franchise right???

The new zone coverage, removal of suction, tackling, additon of the tackle button, the dive catch, etc. This all adds up to the best playing Madden yet. And I didn't even mention DPP.

From there, you'll struggle to find a football game that has come close to the presentation that Madden NFL 12 offers. Words can;t describe the difference that having every camera from every NFL stadium in the game makes to the overall look and feel. Throw int he fact that every team has their custom entrances, the new broadcast layers, etc and you have another major improvement.

Offline franchise received 100 additions/improvements and these are major. There are things in their that you guys have requested for years and new things that most have never even thought of such as DPP that make the mode fresh and fun to play. Again, you'll have to experience it first hand to know what I mean.

Then we still have July 25th and I PROMISE you this announcement is going to change the way you guys look at playing Madden online forever. This is HUGE and you won't want to miss it.

I respect your opinion, but i want to make sure that you know the depth that has been put into this year's game.
I understand what your saying but at the same time 3 years of not tweaking of adding anything to the online franchised is wild to me. For example I work in the oil field business if work on a project and customers are buying it and I don't add or tweak something and I have some customers who like it and half doesn't like it my boss will pull me to the side and say I want something done now or you got to find a new job. Bc it's about feeling good about putting a good product out.

Pastapadre: The only online stuff Madden 12 has worked on is the "Communities". And that is related to Online Team Play.

I wonder if this will be like NHL's OTP mode where you and your buddies just play random people either in a sim or arcade community. If that's what it is I will be disappointed.

I'm confident the team is pretty happy with the product they put out, and there's certainly a ton of things that don't make it in every year.

Really need these questions answered

so no DPP in online franchise?
no 70player rosters in oniline franchise?
no IR in online franchise?

is anything madden 12 related in online franchise?

I only play OF...thats it. I dont want to spend 60$ on a online franchise roster update that doesnt include new madden 12 features

# 71 Stick skills @ 07/08/11 04:32 PM
I will look forward to buying madden 13 if you guys address online franchise til then i will enjoy playing online dynasty and an extra 60 dollars in my pocket. I understand that you cant put everything in but dont take 3 years to address something fans have been begging for.

# 72 hrkac @ 07/08/11 04:32 PM
I'm at least glad they were honest about it so people (me) can cancel their preorders. It's pretty funny that they don't make any improvements to online franchise, so less people play it, so they justify not making any improvements next year. Brilliant.

I'm guessing Madden Clans, maybe having more than 4 v 4 OTP, like 11 on 11. Probably a lot of other social networking type stuff, sharing videos, custom items, etc.

????

I dont expect online fran to be as good as offline especially with all the new improvements but i do expext things like trading draft picks and free agency to be in there. The people who work at madden should be ashamed of themselves

funny that ncaa had a fully functioning online dynasty from the day it first got it in the game...we cant even keep track of the stats and records once that season is over

Is it just me or does it seem like the guys working on Madden every year have to start giving us the same old excuses of why they didn't add things to the game. They made all these improvements to offline franchise mode, just carry them over to online. NCAA can do this, but the guys working on Madden can't, even though they're getting an extra 3 weeks this year? I think they need to hire some more people to work on this game. They know going in they only have 1 year to work on the game, so why not have enough people to work on the game in order to get stuff done in that 1 year. This pisses me off, and I don't even play online. It just shows their lack of motivation to do anything to the game cuz they think everybody is going to buy it every year no matter what.

Some of wondered why we didn't mention this with our offline franchise and that's because we were still hard at work in the development process and did not want to to make this announcement until we knew for sure what we'd be able to get into the game this year.

As I stated earlier, we are dedicated to improving the online franchise experience and I think the addition of Roy Harvey as the new Executive Producer of Madden should make you guys feel the same way. Just take a look at the work that has been done with Online Dynasty under his watch over the years and you'll start to get a sense of the dedication that the new leadership team has.

REALLY?? REALLY EA??? im not trying to get banned or have my psn banned AGAIN by EA but let's be real here. yall spend all this time on grass? yall spent all this time on team entrances? yall spent all this time on OFFLINE improvements. let's be honest here, madden is an online game. i have several friends that play madden and not 1 plays madden for the offline franchise features. all the online franchises that are registered on the EA servers and all the users that play lobby games u know that this is an online only game. here is what yall could ATLEAST DO..ATLEAST DO FOR YOUR LOYAL FANS WHO BUY THIS 65 DOLLAR GAME.

1) add a practice or scrimage mode
2) give commissioners more authority to change scores of games, move around draft picks, and restart games from a select time, score, and down and distance just in case a disconnection happens
3) randomizations of cpu generated draft classes names and attributes.

these 3 "features" can easily make millions of fans happy. these are minor things that shouldnt take to much of your time away from upgrading grass to put in the game. its amazing that EA holds back information for selected dates to tell us what we want to know. i think that it is funny how when asked questions about this they say things like we aren't talking about this right now. why not talk about it? why not come out and say we have nothing to report on this topic because we made no improvements. not even 3 simple improvements that i listed about. im still getting madden simply because it is the only nfl football game out. i think that you guys here at EA take us for granted and realize that ya'll are the only game in town so u can let us down with no worries. Just amazes me that's all.

the "improvements" ya'll made in gameplay are old improvements. this is an online game...ONLINE..who cares about offline. ya'll should know this. hahahahahha omg this is terrible but what are we gonna do when EA has a strangle hold on that damn contract...NOTHIN. but buy this rabbit *** game.
