MLB Bobblehead Pros News Post

Back at E3, I previewed MLB Bobblehead Pros and pretty much could not say enough nice things about it. Konami's Power Pros baseball franchise is beloved for all the right reasons, and this $10 XBLA arcade game seems to be just another way for more people to experience the franchise.

Many folks may have missed out on the series because it has mostly been known for being released on Nintendo platforms this generation, but it's a simulation baseball series that is hidden under a cartoon-like graphical facade. While this version is not quite as in-depth as some of the earlier retail versions of the game, it seems like there is still local co-op online, an edit player feature (although it seems to be locked when you first play the game), full 162-game season and create-a-team elements as well.

Some members here at Operation Sports have already picked up the title and have some nice things to say about it:

There is a demo for folks to try, and it appears more content will be coming to the game later in the summer. Some of the content coming at a later date includes a home run derby, as well as My Bobble mode, which seems like it will be some sort of career mode where you control one single player for a whole season. I doubt it will be as in depth as "The Life" mode found in other Power Pros games, but it would still be a welcomed addition regardless.

Lastly, while the Xbox Live Arcade version is the only one out right now, it seems like a PS3 version will be coming at a later date.

I wonder what they put in this pack to make it worth that much besides the roster editor?

The game + the two DLC packs now comes to $25 total.
No Idea what the Bobblehead Baseball Battle really is. I haven't found any details about what the game is about. I know we are hoping the player editor feature becomes unlocked with this. The Konami website for MLB Bobbleheads does have some new screens which most of the new ones has to be of this new DLC. I would just like to know exactly what this part of the game is about, if it included the player editor. And then can we use that editor on arranged teams to get everything updated.

That's just as much as the original game right? All Star pack was only 400? Can't remember and I don't use my 360 or the marketplace much.
How come all of the other ones say the 28th, but this says it came out yesterday:

I guess it was a typo.

If it's really 800 MS, then there has to be more than just the Player Editor thing to get excited about..

Yeah, it's not out today -- I checked. Gonna' have to wait one more week to find out what the heck Konami put in there to make it worth the same price as the game itself.

Its definitely a typo, must be coming the 28th. Pray for edit players.

Yesss, finally the player editor comes out tomorrow.

Can't wait to get into these rosters.

If anyone gets this in the am or afternoon tomorrow, please post info on the game, and any type of player editor that comes with it. Been anticipating this part of the game for awhile, so hopefully it is included and delivers. I won't be able to check out the DLC until the evening. Thanks in advance!

It's not DLC, it's a whole new game. I'm so confused by this...LOL there is a roster update DLC up though.

# 348 jyoung @ 09/28/11 10:46 AM
The roster update DLC is listed as free on the marketplace?

I dunno what's up with this, but I'm downloading Bobblehead Battle to see what this thing is. Looks like it's a separate game. We'll see if it also unlocks anything for Bobblehead Pros.

# 349 jyoung @ 09/28/11 11:10 AM
To clarify:

-- Today's roster update DLC is free for both Bobblehead Pros and Bobblehead Battle! You have to download it for each game.

-- Bobblehead Battle is its own separate mini-game. You just hit targets in the field for points.

-- Buying Bobblehead Battle unlocks the roster editor in Bobblehead Pros

Thanks for the info guys.

How good are the new rosters? Didn't think there was a chance they would give us updated rosters as DLC, so that's a bonus.

having to buy the battle game just for the player editor is a slight bummer, but I will get over it. Maybe if the new roster is legit, there might not be an immediate need for the player editor? But I'll probably go with it anyways.

I just saw K-Rod is on the Brewers. What other players do you guys want me to check?

My guess is everything should be updated to after the trade deadline.

Ya I just checked this out quick on my lunch. I see Trumbo, Trout, some rookies that weren';t included in the beginning on there now. See all the big trade deadline moves. This is a good thing, saves alot of time and work on rosters to get them right. This is a nice added bonus. Didn't expect a roster update for an XBOX live arcade game.

Still might get the Bobblehead battle too for the player editor.

Unless I'm missing something, there doesn't appear to be any way to turn off the CPU pitch cursor in Challenge mode of Bobblehead Battle, which is the main mode of the game (you go through all 30 MLB teams, 1 at a time ala NBA JAM).

The "controller setup" option that usually works in Exhibition mode is grayed out in Challenge mode.

I'm guessing Challenge mode limits you to default settings? Bummer, because so far, it's way too easy to beat down the CPU. I just won 26 - 0, for example.

Maybe it will get tougher as I face the better teams. You start against the lowest-rated team in the game (Pirates) and go through the ranks from the bad teams up to the highest-rated teams.

The gameplay itself is pretty fun, but the difficulty is just way too easy, and there doesn't appear to be any way to tweak the sliders for Challenge mode.

How is the player editor feature looking?

It's the same thing as My Bobble pretty much.

So by downloading the Bobblehead Battle you get the Player Editor for Bobblehead Pros as well.

I think I'm not gonna even play Battle. I'm just gonna play Bobblehead Pros with the updated rosters and player editor.

The crap they put in Battle isn't worth a whole game. Why did they change the gameplay to hitting targets, etc?

I would've been fine with a roster update and player editor. But nope, they have to change it to hitting targets. WTF?

Why couldn't they have just made Power Pros 11?

Ok, cool.

So you can go into custom team or arrange mode or whatever, then just edit names and everything on existing teams you copied over?

It's the same thing as MLB Power Pros if you've played that.

Ok, cool. Ya, that's all I wanted.

Not sure what Konami's strategy was by piece mealing this game in parts. Doesn't make sense. If anything it turned people away from the game.

Sure wish we could have had Power Pros 11 like you said, but you know what, I'll take what we can get. At least we have something resembling the updated rosters. I don't have a ps2 anymore, or the Wii, had them, and played the old PP's... but this is the only chance to play the series for right now for me.

I downloaded the roster update and it is a great addition. Making me in no rush to get Battle especially for 800. At 400 it would seem more reasonable. I bought Home Run Derby All Star add on to support to the game but now I wish I held out and just got Battle.

I haven't tested it out yet fully yet but it seems after the update those are now the default rosters so you can't add players to teams that were in the game before the update and were removed unless you delete the roster update file.

But I did notice after I downloaded the update my custom teams had all the default players. Hopefully this works in reverse where after you delete the update you still have players you added from the update. Making it easier next year to just delete and re download the rosters if players sign to other teams or come back from injury. If any of that made sense lol.
