MLB Bobblehead Pros News Post

Back at E3, I previewed MLB Bobblehead Pros and pretty much could not say enough nice things about it. Konami's Power Pros baseball franchise is beloved for all the right reasons, and this $10 XBLA arcade game seems to be just another way for more people to experience the franchise.

Many folks may have missed out on the series because it has mostly been known for being released on Nintendo platforms this generation, but it's a simulation baseball series that is hidden under a cartoon-like graphical facade. While this version is not quite as in-depth as some of the earlier retail versions of the game, it seems like there is still local co-op online, an edit player feature (although it seems to be locked when you first play the game), full 162-game season and create-a-team elements as well.

Some members here at Operation Sports have already picked up the title and have some nice things to say about it:

There is a demo for folks to try, and it appears more content will be coming to the game later in the summer. Some of the content coming at a later date includes a home run derby, as well as My Bobble mode, which seems like it will be some sort of career mode where you control one single player for a whole season. I doubt it will be as in depth as "The Life" mode found in other Power Pros games, but it would still be a welcomed addition regardless.

Lastly, while the Xbox Live Arcade version is the only one out right now, it seems like a PS3 version will be coming at a later date.

Ya, I don't know what they are thinking here.

They have a solid series with PP, and they try to get it going again. They have some solid buzz with this game. We are waiting on some features to complete the game, Ps3ers are waiting on the game and absolutely no news.

Football and hockey games are right around the corner, and I think they might miss their window here, well for me at least anyways.

Kind of disapointed. Really need that player edit feature, because rosters are so jacked up after trade deadline.

Konami has two great baseball games with pro spirits and the PP series. They gotta be able to get it together for us here in the u.s.

I don't know why they didn't just continue MLBPP. Alot of people would buy a 2011 version.
I'd buy the game even if it was just MLBPP08 with updated rosters.

Pretty soon, baseball season will be over, and we all know that people play sports games more regularly when that particular sport is in season.

Konami should have just launched both DLC packs at the All Star break.

That's what I'm saying. They are missing their window. Especially since the game had so much positive buzz.

I bought the game on release day and played a bit innitially but now i just dont have the urge to do it like i had on PowerPros...

I donīt know what it is... the magic itīs just not there, i donīt know if itīs the new bobblehead design of the players or just the fact that i couldnīt find a happy medium with the settings... the magic of PowerPros itīs just not there for me...

Yeah, they made too many mistakes here. They launched a limited version of Power Pros (no commentary, no franchise, less gameplay features), took away the cuteness factor of the players, made us buy the game in packs, and damn it... we don't even have a PSN version yet.

I'm okay with the timing being off, but I'm not so sure if they are. In other words, I don't know if they'll still be releasing this title if we hit September, especially if they expect big sales. We should definitely get a discount.

Oh, and if it releases and rosters aren't up to date (or can't be updated online), that's just messed up lol.

If you look at the XBLA sales charts, MLB Bobblehead Pros doesn't seem to be doing too well.

It's near the bottom of the rankings overall and is still listed on the 4th page:

http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Ga...by=BestSelling

Compare that to Backbreaker Vengeance, which was released around the same time, and Backbreaker is about midway up the charts on page 3.

I doubt we'll see a PS3 version of MLB Bobblehead Pros at this point.

Shame, because it really is my favorite baseball game this year.

No DLC again this week.

To summarize how poorly this game is doing in sales:

Tour de France 2009 is beating it by two spots in the XBLA sales charts

Sad that a licensed MLB game can't even outsell a two-year old cycling game.

To the PS3 owners wondering, Bobble Head Pro is coming out exclusively to PS3 in Japan in disc form on September 29th. It will be 4000 yen and it already includes all the DLC on the disc. So basically the PS3 version is already completed but no idea if they will ever release it in the states.

What. The. Hell.

That's an MLB version, or is it the Japanese pro league?

That's just the MLB version, exactly the same game you guys are playing on XBox live right now.

The Japanese league version is still called Power Pro and has the classic style instead of bobble heads:

So 3980 yen, that would be $50 going by the Google currency converter.

At least we're getting a bargain price here in the USA, I guess.

But man, why have Konami not put the other DLC out, or even a PS3 version, for that matter?

Really, really annoyed that this happened instead of just translated a full-featured version of the game. This is as high quality a title as any on the market but they didn't market it the first time around and now it's like they're actively trying to screw it up this time with the weird release and inferior art style.

So, why on Earth is Japan getting an MLB game before us? No, I wouldn't really want this game in disc form so badly, but this would have been a nice, nifty little downloadable title for me to have.

Unfortunately though, either way, they should have just stuck to Power Pros. That game had its share of problems that seem to have translated right over to Bobblehead Pros, but it was much more filled out, was very cute, and suited all of my needs to tide me over. I mean, the small fact that Bobblehead Pros doesn't even have a digital free-roam hitting cursor anymore is pretty bothersome, IMO.

So two months later, no Bobblehead Battle Bonus DLC.

Ps3 network hasn't even gotten the game at all.

No idea what happaned and what's up.

I have no idea.

When is this "later in the year" coming?

# 337 Fiddy @ 09/17/11 11:38 AM
this was my fav game for a while, but this lack of edit feature just stinks.. what the heck are they doing? did they forget about it? lol..

# 338 jyoung @ 09/17/11 01:54 PM
I keep checking the XBLA marketplace every week for the missing DLC roster editor pack, and each week, I come back disappointed.

Who knows what's going on at Konami.

The game hasn't sold well at all on XBLA. Maybe Konami just gave up on it and threw in the towel.

# 339 falcons2003 @ 09/21/11 10:55 PM
Major Nelson's website update from yesterday has MLB Bobblehead Baseball Battle listed as being available on Sept. 28 for 800 pts.

That's just as much as the original game right? All Star pack was only 400? Can't remember and I don't use my 360 or the marketplace much.

# 340 jyoung @ 09/21/11 10:58 PM
Correct, the original game was 800 points.

I wonder what they put in this pack to make it worth that much besides the roster editor?

The game + the two DLC packs now comes to $25 total.
