NASCAR The Game 2011 News Post

I received the game this morning at 9 AM. Please keep in mind, I have only raced 4 times so far and practiced at another.

I am going to answer as many questions as I can that have already been asked, then will keep posting impressions and answer as many questions as I can. I have my PS3 in my office hooked up to the same monitor as my PC, so I have to switch over, so If I don't immediately respond to something, it's because I am on the PS3.

On to the questions, from the other topic.

I wanna know how are the Graphics compared to NASCAR 09? I really can't get a good grasp from the videos. Thanks.

IMO the graphics are a bit better than NASCAR 09. NASCAR 09 was a nice looking game, but I think NTG11 does a better job here. There is a very natural, organic look to it, almost like MLB The Show has. The color palate is there, but it's not too crisp, or overdone.

The car models are nicely executed, and tracks look beautiful.

1. I think we are all wondering about the difficulty of the game and if what we saw in the videos was on some easier level. Is the game more realistic than what the videos may have lead us to believe?

2. Is there a true career mode, or is it just a season, and how does that work?

3. Do you get the sense that you are at 30+ different tracks, or does it feel like most of the tracks run about the same?

1. I set the difficulty for the AI on the highest at Tally, Daytona, and Texas. They were very competitive at Tally and Daytona, and Texas were just better than me....flat out! What I really like so far about the AI, is that they are aggressive, but not cheap. They understand that you are also on the track, and try to be cautious of their surroundings. They did bump draft with me at Tally and Daytona, and I could do the same with them...and there was no sign of them being disturbed by it.

2. Have not jumped into career mode as of yet, but will give it a run as the day progresses.

3. There was a nice difference in the feel from Atlanta, Texas, Daytona and Tally. They didn't feel that same at all, and based off early impressions, they did a nice job trying to individualize and realistically replicate each track.

Pre-race presentation-Is there a full pace lap with the driver/grid position rundown like EA did a few years back? Very tv-style touch that was very nice. Also, any featured drivers pre-race?

Wreck/caution-how long is it between the wreck, caution and going into the pace lap? Time enough to 'go thru' the wreck if it happened up in front and you're in the back of the pack, or just 'there's a wreck' and then two seconds later in the caution lap?

Keep in mind, I have not done season or career, but in "race now" option, there was no pre-race or any presentation. It literally took you to the race about 100 yards away from the start finish line.

In regards to wrecking, you get to watch the whole wreck. It doesn't take you away to a cut scene instantly. I was in one at Tally, and it seemed like it lasted 20 seconds, and I was in one at Texas, and it only lasted about 10 seconds. Then it gives you the option to pit under caution...if you choose no, it takes to a few seconds before the green flag drops again.

I am very curious about the realism of the track surface. For example, Are there bumps in on the lowside of turns 1 and 2 at Las Vegas? Do the bumps upset the car and make you create a setup that can handle those bumps?

That leads to my other question. How much does messing with the setup actually change the feel of the car? When the track rubbers up, does the car get tighter?

From what I have seen, the bumps feel like they are barely noticeable. I felt a little bit at Daytona in turns 3 going into 4(keep in mind its still Daytona 10 on my copy) but nothing that really forced me to white knuckle the wheel at all. When an AI car gets into you, you notice that a lot more than any bumps on the track surface. If you're hoping to really feel the surface bumps and have it effect the car....probably not going to be real happy.

I will say the the driving model is really well done though, and you truly feel connected to the track surface.

Ok, going to go test some more, and try to get some photos, but videos may be very difficult. I am trying to find a way to do it right now. I will be back in a few to answer some more questions and give some solid impressions.

Try exerting a little effort, calling a store, or doing something that you seem to think everybody else owes you instead of misreading somebody's post and trying to use smileys and basically calling the guy out as an idiot. His point was valid. If you don't have a second game, that's not his fault. It's still worth $30 to him if he trades it in using the method he clearly described.

With a posting style like this, I'm shocked you've made it from March until now here.
He's probably still mad the Sonics left!

For those of us who play mainly offline, is this game worth an investment?

I'd stay as far away from it as possible, personally. If you just want a short 10 or 15 lap sprint race, it might be fun.

But if you want to actually include pit stops or any race length longer than a dozen laps, it's absolutely atrocious. I've been waiting for that patch to hit since release day like everybody else, and I'm fed up. It's garbage in its current state, but I DO applaud the dev team for being so open in their lines of communication.

I believe that it will eventually be worth playing...but it may be August before we see that. I'd say stay away from it until you actually know the latest patch hits. Then check out impressions, and if they're solid, give it a go.

But right now, I'd say stay far away.

Man, that's a shame.

This exactly the way I have used this game from the beginning, with some of the issues. If you're trying to play this title in any other form right now, you're setting yourself for failure and frustration.

I've found that 15% races are as far as you can go to avoid pit stops and all the trouble that comes with them. It's still quite short but it's a good bit more than 10-15 laps, except for road courses of course. You're spot on about the rest though.

Right now for me the only thing keeping this game from collecting dust is the paint booth. Even that is starting to get old. Its great that Eutechnyx is owning the issues and keeping in touch with the community but the wait is getting to be far too long. The games been out for two months and they still havent worked out a patch... just goes to show how flawed the game was at release.

Pretty much nailed it here guys, short races are lots of fun, other than that the game is garbage. I have not dogged the devs, but this is becoming a joke, still waiting on the patch, shouldn't have had to wait this long for dlc, yet they have now pushed that back till end of June, wouldn't be shocked if it gets pushed back again from there.

Its very frustrating... the game does have alot of potential and the devs seem to care what we think. Yet the actual product says otherwise.
If it wasnt for the paint booth this wouldve been a trade in about a month ago.

Agreed. The paint booth keeps me interested, even though I'm still not very good at it....I have high hopes for future iterations of this title.

P.S.

One thing I would love to see is the ability to import pictures and then paint on top of the imported images.

Very good point -- the fact that the patch has taken this long suggests that the game was extremely flawed from the beginning and that the developer may have limited resources at its disposal to fix it. I'm wondering how this will affect NASCAR 2012.

Does it cost them money to submit a patch or something? They should have rolled these out in incremental fixes. The biggest 5 or 6 busted things should have been fixed and the patch rolled out within a couple of weeks. Then they work on the next batch.

This "fix everything, all at once" mentality is insane. You're ALWAYS going to end up with new stuff you find when you add features (like they did). Not to mention that simply fixing Bug A has a spiderweb effect into seven features that you didn't anticipate, and now you created Bug X. I just can't see how they decided to lump dozens of bug fixes into a patch that leaves the game in a broken state for over 2 months, and then continually add crap in that pushes it back even further. I've been in the software tech support industry for the past 12 years, and their approach to this is curious at best.

The ONLY thing that I can say that they're outstanding in is their communication. Their QA Process and decision making is extremely suspect.

I'm still optimistic and patient...

I am enjoying this game for what it is (at the moment). Running short "for fun" races with my boys. I like Nascar, but I'm not a "diehard" so I'm more willing to wait and really have fun running 10 lap races on the different tracks using different drivers. Messing with the paint schemes, etc. is fun too. yeah, it's not the full usage of the game, but it's good enough for me at the moment...

The patch is with Activision right now for testing. They have all but guaranteed the patch submission to Microsoft tomorrow, and hoping the to have the PS3 patch submitted by next week.

Will you guys be creating a patch impressions thread or will it be done here? I'm curious how the game plays post patch. If it's good I want to buy it.

Thanks

From what I understand, is as long as Activision does submit the patch today...then it should hit the 360 by July 5th(Tuesday)Now for PS3 users, the patch is about a week behind, but it usually only takes Sony 1 week to approve and release a patch. So as long as every sticks to standard protocol, then both PS3 and 360 users should have the patch on the 5th.( if they release the patch on their typical update day)

If it's truly 2 weeks out, then it will be the 6th or 7th.

Thanks for the response. I can be patient for a little longer.
