NASCAR The Game 2011 News Post

I received the game this morning at 9 AM. Please keep in mind, I have only raced 4 times so far and practiced at another.

I am going to answer as many questions as I can that have already been asked, then will keep posting impressions and answer as many questions as I can. I have my PS3 in my office hooked up to the same monitor as my PC, so I have to switch over, so If I don't immediately respond to something, it's because I am on the PS3.

On to the questions, from the other topic.

I wanna know how are the Graphics compared to NASCAR 09? I really can't get a good grasp from the videos. Thanks.

IMO the graphics are a bit better than NASCAR 09. NASCAR 09 was a nice looking game, but I think NTG11 does a better job here. There is a very natural, organic look to it, almost like MLB The Show has. The color palate is there, but it's not too crisp, or overdone.

The car models are nicely executed, and tracks look beautiful.

1. I think we are all wondering about the difficulty of the game and if what we saw in the videos was on some easier level. Is the game more realistic than what the videos may have lead us to believe?

2. Is there a true career mode, or is it just a season, and how does that work?

3. Do you get the sense that you are at 30+ different tracks, or does it feel like most of the tracks run about the same?

1. I set the difficulty for the AI on the highest at Tally, Daytona, and Texas. They were very competitive at Tally and Daytona, and Texas were just better than me....flat out! What I really like so far about the AI, is that they are aggressive, but not cheap. They understand that you are also on the track, and try to be cautious of their surroundings. They did bump draft with me at Tally and Daytona, and I could do the same with them...and there was no sign of them being disturbed by it.

2. Have not jumped into career mode as of yet, but will give it a run as the day progresses.

3. There was a nice difference in the feel from Atlanta, Texas, Daytona and Tally. They didn't feel that same at all, and based off early impressions, they did a nice job trying to individualize and realistically replicate each track.

Pre-race presentation-Is there a full pace lap with the driver/grid position rundown like EA did a few years back? Very tv-style touch that was very nice. Also, any featured drivers pre-race?

Wreck/caution-how long is it between the wreck, caution and going into the pace lap? Time enough to 'go thru' the wreck if it happened up in front and you're in the back of the pack, or just 'there's a wreck' and then two seconds later in the caution lap?

Keep in mind, I have not done season or career, but in "race now" option, there was no pre-race or any presentation. It literally took you to the race about 100 yards away from the start finish line.

In regards to wrecking, you get to watch the whole wreck. It doesn't take you away to a cut scene instantly. I was in one at Tally, and it seemed like it lasted 20 seconds, and I was in one at Texas, and it only lasted about 10 seconds. Then it gives you the option to pit under caution...if you choose no, it takes to a few seconds before the green flag drops again.

I am very curious about the realism of the track surface. For example, Are there bumps in on the lowside of turns 1 and 2 at Las Vegas? Do the bumps upset the car and make you create a setup that can handle those bumps?

That leads to my other question. How much does messing with the setup actually change the feel of the car? When the track rubbers up, does the car get tighter?

From what I have seen, the bumps feel like they are barely noticeable. I felt a little bit at Daytona in turns 3 going into 4(keep in mind its still Daytona 10 on my copy) but nothing that really forced me to white knuckle the wheel at all. When an AI car gets into you, you notice that a lot more than any bumps on the track surface. If you're hoping to really feel the surface bumps and have it effect the car....probably not going to be real happy.

I will say the the driving model is really well done though, and you truly feel connected to the track surface.

Ok, going to go test some more, and try to get some photos, but videos may be very difficult. I am trying to find a way to do it right now. I will be back in a few to answer some more questions and give some solid impressions.

I appreciate the solid communication this company is providing. They've been candid and forthright, and I respect them for that.

Update on Patch #2 05/03/11
Currently the Xbox 360 patch is still in testing with Activision and we hope to have it submitted to Microsoft by this Friday 6th May. The reason for this is to ensure that the patch is released bug free and doesn't cause any other issues. Although this is probably not what you wanted to hear, it would be pointless to rush Patch #2 through testing only for us to then have to work on another patch due to this one not fixing what it was meant to.
NOTE: Submission normally takes up to 2 weeks

The PS3 patch is stuck in limbo at the moment due to the fact that PSN has been down since the patch was completed. Due to a large proportion of the fixes directly relating to the online aspect of the game, it's simply been impossible to fully test the PS3 patch. So at this time we have no news regarding the PS3 patch, besides it's been delayed.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I think it's important that Patch #2 works and fixes issues without causing new problems.
Patch was ready before PSN went down.Wtf are they talking about? The testers of the online aspects of the game are Sony?I really don't get it.2k will release Top Spin 4 patch even if PSN is down.Online fixes should be tested alongside the creation of the patches on private servers.
What i was saying before is that title updates can be downloaded from non-PSN users too.

Please read whats in bold above. Obviously they have tested it but not "fully" they have obviously tested it privately bc they updated the online issues as "improved" "added" or "fixed" and it was wasnt submitted to PSN nor Microsoft at the time, a private server test wouldnt be the same as a test on PSN test, and with PSN down the online you can not test the fixes for online completely.

For Top Spin 4, you mind telling me what the patch fix list was for because 1) they said it would be released soon, but no date and 2) With no fix list we have no idea what offline was fixed as to online. So even if they do release it it could be a patch for completely offline basis, compared to Nascar11 having a extensive list and openly having multiple online issues and add-ons along with offline issues and add-ons.

This argument is trivial because regardless what you say that patch aint coming out any quicker bud.

I find this game unplayable at this point. I put it away a few weeks ago and wont pull it out till the patch hit's...guess that will be at least 2 more weeks....they should have delayed this game and fixed all this stuff and added the 2011 download to the disk.

Train wreck.

I haven't played it since launch week. I will start playing again when the patch hits, but I fully expect the player base to be drastically reduced from what it could have been.

Oh well.

Same here. This is the most broken game I have ever played.

It's a shame....this game could have been great.

Maybe it will gain some new life with the patch and 2011 addon.

In this state game is totally unplayable. That's a shame because the driving model is very good and fun.I even fired up again Nascar 09 and now it feels like a masterpiece compared to Nascar 2011.So, for now it's Nascar 09 for couch gaming and NR2003 for pc.I hope the patch will fix at least 70-80% of the game problems.

Τop Spin 4 patch is out with huge online fixes..

# 1512 OutcastNeedhelp37 @ 05/10/11 03:27 PM
The game is terrible and not playble because of game freeze problem.

# 1513 mkharsh33 @ 05/10/11 04:40 PM
I'm still holding out hope... Nascar is huge and it would be in their best interest to get this game on a solid level because of the amount of money they can make. Nascar is something that ANYONE can play, so they've got a wide range of an audience. I have faith they'll get this thing fixed...

Nothing was "added" there were only bugs, meaning problem in coding, which doesnt require extensive tests on PSN a private server for "bugs" is all thats needed. For online add-ons like completely new features and abilities that wasnt on the original disc is "Huge" and not bugs which coding is fixed thats already on the disc. So your point is still invalid.

Even if you didnt start a career yet... Go to career and at the bottom select restart career. It will cue the same options as when you first put in the game. You can choose a custom driver or an existing Cup driver.

Update on Patch #2 05/19/11

Patch #2 for Xbox 360 is very close to submission and as soon as it has been submitted to Microsoft we'll update everybody. We understand that Xbox 360 players have been waiting a while for the patch now but as mentioned in my previous update we want to make sure that Patch #2 is as bug free as possible before we submit it.

The good news for PS3 players is that now PSN is back up and running, we've been able to begin testing the PS3 version of Patch #2. We're hoping that testing of the PS3 version won't take as long as on 360 because any bugs found on the 360 that apply to the PS3 version should now be easily identified.

As soon as we have a further update I'll update everybody. Thanks again for all your patience.

Hey, sorry I don't want to go through 100+ pages of comments lol. But I was thinking of getting this game, but I have a question.

When a car wrecks, does it actually wreck? Or like in past games do they like go perpendicular to the track then magically regain control and continue racing.

Also how does it compare to Gran Turismo 5's NASCAR?
