NASCAR The Game 2011 News Post

I received the game this morning at 9 AM. Please keep in mind, I have only raced 4 times so far and practiced at another.

I am going to answer as many questions as I can that have already been asked, then will keep posting impressions and answer as many questions as I can. I have my PS3 in my office hooked up to the same monitor as my PC, so I have to switch over, so If I don't immediately respond to something, it's because I am on the PS3.

On to the questions, from the other topic.

I wanna know how are the Graphics compared to NASCAR 09? I really can't get a good grasp from the videos. Thanks.

IMO the graphics are a bit better than NASCAR 09. NASCAR 09 was a nice looking game, but I think NTG11 does a better job here. There is a very natural, organic look to it, almost like MLB The Show has. The color palate is there, but it's not too crisp, or overdone.

The car models are nicely executed, and tracks look beautiful.

1. I think we are all wondering about the difficulty of the game and if what we saw in the videos was on some easier level. Is the game more realistic than what the videos may have lead us to believe?

2. Is there a true career mode, or is it just a season, and how does that work?

3. Do you get the sense that you are at 30+ different tracks, or does it feel like most of the tracks run about the same?

1. I set the difficulty for the AI on the highest at Tally, Daytona, and Texas. They were very competitive at Tally and Daytona, and Texas were just better than me....flat out! What I really like so far about the AI, is that they are aggressive, but not cheap. They understand that you are also on the track, and try to be cautious of their surroundings. They did bump draft with me at Tally and Daytona, and I could do the same with them...and there was no sign of them being disturbed by it.

2. Have not jumped into career mode as of yet, but will give it a run as the day progresses.

3. There was a nice difference in the feel from Atlanta, Texas, Daytona and Tally. They didn't feel that same at all, and based off early impressions, they did a nice job trying to individualize and realistically replicate each track.

Pre-race presentation-Is there a full pace lap with the driver/grid position rundown like EA did a few years back? Very tv-style touch that was very nice. Also, any featured drivers pre-race?

Wreck/caution-how long is it between the wreck, caution and going into the pace lap? Time enough to 'go thru' the wreck if it happened up in front and you're in the back of the pack, or just 'there's a wreck' and then two seconds later in the caution lap?

Keep in mind, I have not done season or career, but in "race now" option, there was no pre-race or any presentation. It literally took you to the race about 100 yards away from the start finish line.

In regards to wrecking, you get to watch the whole wreck. It doesn't take you away to a cut scene instantly. I was in one at Tally, and it seemed like it lasted 20 seconds, and I was in one at Texas, and it only lasted about 10 seconds. Then it gives you the option to pit under caution...if you choose no, it takes to a few seconds before the green flag drops again.

I am very curious about the realism of the track surface. For example, Are there bumps in on the lowside of turns 1 and 2 at Las Vegas? Do the bumps upset the car and make you create a setup that can handle those bumps?

That leads to my other question. How much does messing with the setup actually change the feel of the car? When the track rubbers up, does the car get tighter?

From what I have seen, the bumps feel like they are barely noticeable. I felt a little bit at Daytona in turns 3 going into 4(keep in mind its still Daytona 10 on my copy) but nothing that really forced me to white knuckle the wheel at all. When an AI car gets into you, you notice that a lot more than any bumps on the track surface. If you're hoping to really feel the surface bumps and have it effect the car....probably not going to be real happy.

I will say the the driving model is really well done though, and you truly feel connected to the track surface.

Ok, going to go test some more, and try to get some photos, but videos may be very difficult. I am trying to find a way to do it right now. I will be back in a few to answer some more questions and give some solid impressions.

I get almost all of my UPS shipments between 10AM and 11AM as well. I'm not expecting it to arrive much later than that.

Can you turn the spotter off? I sure hope so, he seems like a real idiot, that's not much help.

"Blue...You're my boy".....haha you seriously have some kind of patience. I'm pretty convinced I'll be buying this game, though even if you had dissed I'm a big enough fan of NASCAR to get it. The worst that they could produce is an EA remake that we've gotten every year in the NASCAR gaming history on consoles. So my questions are:

1- When all cars come into pit, do you see other teams jumping the wall or making changes, etc?
2- Being somebody that desperately wants a SIM vs. arcade type feel, with the setting on "Very Hard", is there that SIM feel to the game?
3- Finally, is the option to "rim-ride" at any given track, with that groove, possible? EA gave drivers ONE line to take for speed?(the lower)

Thanks Blue!

I think this is correct just raced Bristol and i hit the same cone 10 times around the track. I also hit car parts and never saw a caution spotter does say their saying there is debris on the track but no caution.

I havent figured out how to yet but damn he is annoying. For me its the same 4 catch phrases every race. Something about i bet its hotter up here than down their. I almost chocked on this shrimp cocktail up here. The thing about Hendricks guys buying pizza. Something about a hotdog never can understand what he is saying.

On the cautions is cockpit view i havent ever seen another crew jumping the wall will check better next time.

2nd thing on very hard its defiantly leaps beyond where EA was but as Blue has said there are small issues. Im hoping this will be addressed with the patch and i think it will. As i stated earlier i got off to a nice lead at Daytona thought oh god this EA style and a group of 5 freight trained by me i couldnt even hook onto there draft.

Last this is one of my favorite things you can use different lines at all 5 of the tracks i have run at. The high side at Daytona work best for me and at Atlanta i stayed high pretty much the whole race.

I was looking at online leaderboard earlier and their are some great times out their. low 15 at Bristol without tuning my car i got a 16.5 but and that was fastest lap the whole race so guy had it on rails.

Also inside the garage you can hit the driver tab it will tell you how many gallons of gas you have used tires changed everything for your career. I thought this was a pretty cool add.

I follow the crosshair map, and use the lookback button more than listen to my spotter. The thing is, he is useful at time, but other times he's talking about a hot dog wrapper in the fan, or shrimp cocktails.....and for the love of all that is holy...I DON'T CARE ABOUT MY RIVAL AND HOW HE IS DOING. What I do care about is the 6-7 cars right behind me!

1. No you do not see other teams jumping the wall form what I recall. The show an external side view of you car, and you really never see another pit box. I will keep an eye out for this tonight, and double check on it for ya.

2. I can only give you my opinion on the sim feel of it. I think on the hardest difficulty setting, it has a feel that is similar to NASCAR 2003. Now i am not claiming it is as sim as that, but the feel is very close for me.

3. Every groove at each track that I have tried is a viable groove to use. They have done a very nice job in making sure no groove is better than the other...from my short time with the game.

I am almost positive it gives you the option to choose the length and difficulty before each race...even in career mode.

I have not seen a caution thrown for debris yet. I have heard my spotter tell me to be on the look on for debris, but have never seen it. I also heard my spotter tell me I was buying pizza that night for the boys....

I am usually using cockpit1 cam, inside the car...so I have never heard the crowd. The engine sound from your car and the surrounding other cars, is really loud though(and pretty authentic sounding)

I can't say for sure that there is different strategy, but in some race's, it sure feels like some cars take 2, some take 4. There are guys that bust out of the pits like 3-4 seconds faster than everybody else. If they gave us a screen showing who gained and lost right after all of us exited...I could better answer this questions..and they don't all pit at the same time on green flag pit stops, which is kind of cool.

Great question...I assume its either something that will be patched, or the number appears after the skin is created...which doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense.

They are used to unlock things like new car schemes and pins for the garage. The system does the unlocking for you though, it's not like you have a jar full of NXP's, and spend them on stuff you want.
