NASCAR The Game 2011 News Post

I received the game this morning at 9 AM. Please keep in mind, I have only raced 4 times so far and practiced at another.

I am going to answer as many questions as I can that have already been asked, then will keep posting impressions and answer as many questions as I can. I have my PS3 in my office hooked up to the same monitor as my PC, so I have to switch over, so If I don't immediately respond to something, it's because I am on the PS3.

On to the questions, from the other topic.

I wanna know how are the Graphics compared to NASCAR 09? I really can't get a good grasp from the videos. Thanks.

IMO the graphics are a bit better than NASCAR 09. NASCAR 09 was a nice looking game, but I think NTG11 does a better job here. There is a very natural, organic look to it, almost like MLB The Show has. The color palate is there, but it's not too crisp, or overdone.

The car models are nicely executed, and tracks look beautiful.

1. I think we are all wondering about the difficulty of the game and if what we saw in the videos was on some easier level. Is the game more realistic than what the videos may have lead us to believe?

2. Is there a true career mode, or is it just a season, and how does that work?

3. Do you get the sense that you are at 30+ different tracks, or does it feel like most of the tracks run about the same?

1. I set the difficulty for the AI on the highest at Tally, Daytona, and Texas. They were very competitive at Tally and Daytona, and Texas were just better than me....flat out! What I really like so far about the AI, is that they are aggressive, but not cheap. They understand that you are also on the track, and try to be cautious of their surroundings. They did bump draft with me at Tally and Daytona, and I could do the same with them...and there was no sign of them being disturbed by it.

2. Have not jumped into career mode as of yet, but will give it a run as the day progresses.

3. There was a nice difference in the feel from Atlanta, Texas, Daytona and Tally. They didn't feel that same at all, and based off early impressions, they did a nice job trying to individualize and realistically replicate each track.

Pre-race presentation-Is there a full pace lap with the driver/grid position rundown like EA did a few years back? Very tv-style touch that was very nice. Also, any featured drivers pre-race?

Wreck/caution-how long is it between the wreck, caution and going into the pace lap? Time enough to 'go thru' the wreck if it happened up in front and you're in the back of the pack, or just 'there's a wreck' and then two seconds later in the caution lap?

Keep in mind, I have not done season or career, but in "race now" option, there was no pre-race or any presentation. It literally took you to the race about 100 yards away from the start finish line.

In regards to wrecking, you get to watch the whole wreck. It doesn't take you away to a cut scene instantly. I was in one at Tally, and it seemed like it lasted 20 seconds, and I was in one at Texas, and it only lasted about 10 seconds. Then it gives you the option to pit under caution...if you choose no, it takes to a few seconds before the green flag drops again.

I am very curious about the realism of the track surface. For example, Are there bumps in on the lowside of turns 1 and 2 at Las Vegas? Do the bumps upset the car and make you create a setup that can handle those bumps?

That leads to my other question. How much does messing with the setup actually change the feel of the car? When the track rubbers up, does the car get tighter?

From what I have seen, the bumps feel like they are barely noticeable. I felt a little bit at Daytona in turns 3 going into 4(keep in mind its still Daytona 10 on my copy) but nothing that really forced me to white knuckle the wheel at all. When an AI car gets into you, you notice that a lot more than any bumps on the track surface. If you're hoping to really feel the surface bumps and have it effect the car....probably not going to be real happy.

I will say the the driving model is really well done though, and you truly feel connected to the track surface.

Ok, going to go test some more, and try to get some photos, but videos may be very difficult. I am trying to find a way to do it right now. I will be back in a few to answer some more questions and give some solid impressions.

I rips apart no doubt and exposes the chassis. I hit the infield wall at about 120 and my front end was ruined. One thing that I thought was interesting is that the wall also took damage and you could tell the there was an impact there.

Blue i have a question for you i guess im lost just started a new career on Very Hard and i wanted to figure out where i tweak my set up before qualifying and after. I dont see it im sure its in there but for the life of me i cant find it. Also JJ ran a 47.4 for his Qrun i was only able to get to 12th. I think if i could set up my car correctly i could get closer.

Blue, about how much NXP do you get per race?

Blue, thanks again for doing this. I actually trusted your word, and my wife went to the mall a bit ago and paid in full for my copy for my ps3!! I can't wait to play this with my logitech driving force wheel with my surround sound turned up and 43 v8's screaming. How does the sound of the cars come across on this game? Does it have that raw sound to them, or does it sound digitalized like all of the forza games, and most the cars on gt5? Also, can you try to get us some pictures of some VIOLENT wrecks? We've only seen dented fenders and such. I'd like to see a car torn to shreds, smoke, etc. I want some raw footage!! This is only part that I am waiting to see, everything else sounds great. Thanks again!!

I mean like if you scrape the wall and keep going.

# 347 mason3132 @ 03/26/11 03:08 PM
I figured it out Blue you dont do it at individual tracks you do it in the garage on main screen. Looks like you have 60 or 70 setups you can load.

Blue are you having issues with the caution flag not coming out. I have been wrecked quite a few time at tracks other than Dyatona and i never see a flag. JJ hit me at Cali and it turned into 7 car pile up and no caution.

Are certain drivers better a ceratain tracks?

Example: Kahne is better at Atlanta, LOWES, Texas and those tracks opposed to say Watkins Glen.

Can you confirm?

It really depends Redsox....you get xp for doing things like dominating the race, clean passes, passing your rival. I would say that I avg probably 7000-10000 nxp per race. The most I ever gained was around 14000 for 1 race.

Well....the violent wrecks have been hard to come by. The damge in game is well done, but when I have tried to create a catstrophic wreck, the results have been lack luster at best. This might change with the pacth Tuesday, but I'm not sure. Don't take this as there isn't much damage, but if you intent is create a devestating scene....I would temper your excitement a bit.

I hope you like it, cause the last thing I want is a phone call from you wife

I did have one accident where I blew my tire, and it was probably the coolest thing I have ever seen on a console NASCAR game. The tire was just shredded, and I was racing with my wheel, so I didnt have the option to go into photo mode. When they took the tire off, it literally was just small chunks of rubber, clinging to the rim.

I would have no idea.....The developers sent me both of my copies for the PS3 and 360. I know one guy got it from GameStop, but only because he knew the manager real well...or something like that.

Thank's bro, I really had no idea how to do it before hand. I was doing it on the fly under cautions. You don't have a ton of time under cautions to make changes, so it was very hectic.

In mine JJ had the pole for the first 3 races and was pretty dominant at all 3 tracks he was 1st,2nd,3rd

I have had this happen a couple of times....a scenario where the caution flag should have dropped, but it didn't. I am assuming the fix for this is in the patch...just like the fix for the pit entry crash is.

I am not really seeing that right now, but I have a feeling becuase I don't have the driver updates. I'm not saying that I don't see guys towards the front at certain tracks that you would expect to.....like Johnson in Cali, Kahne at Texas, Kurt Busch at Bristol...but I see other idiots who have no reason to be there. If I see Jennifer Jo Cobb turn the fastest lap one more time...I'm sending someone an email about it. I would say wait until the driver updates hit, then go from there.

Thanks Blue!

WTF JJC posted the fast lap? Where?

LOL..let me clarify that statement. I can't imagine what would happen if the web caught hold of that statement and ran with it.

During the race, on the left had sidebar(on-screen) they have a little monitor that tells you who just turned the fastest lap, each and every lap. I was racing at some track(don't remember now) but I swear every 4th or 5th lap, it was her who was the fastest. It's not happening at every track, just this one specific track. Let be honest though, there is NO track in which JJC should ever be the fastest(lol)

# 356 KahneFan4 @ 03/26/11 04:05 PM
No lol, She should be slow and be at the mid to back at best.

Thanks again for all the impressions!
Im not even going to bother with that justintv feed.
Sounds like the driving/physics model is done very well and to me that is the most important thing in a first year effort.

In the paint booth, can you make more than one scheme?
If so, what is the limit?

No problem Brew, and as far as more than 1 scheme, yes you can. How many can you do?.......not sure about that. I am actually going to mess arounf with it some more today though. If I find the answer, I will post it.

I understand about JJC but what you think about Danica running well or getting a pole here and there and a few top 10 to 15 and occasional top 5 .... first thing im planning on doing is running full Road Course Glen or Infineon with her to see what happens ...

I don't mind if I see Danica in the top 10 or 15 once in awhile, its not that big of deal to me. Even If I saw her win a race, I would not be pissed. Now if I saw her constantly in the top 10, and with 4-5 wins on the season, I would feel obligated to put her in the wall. She has never proven she could do that on any level, in any professional series.

I would highly suggest doing the RC at the Glen 1st. It is probably my favorite track in NTG11, and is a blast to run with a wheel or controller.
