NASCAR The Game 2011 News Post

I received the game this morning at 9 AM. Please keep in mind, I have only raced 4 times so far and practiced at another.

I am going to answer as many questions as I can that have already been asked, then will keep posting impressions and answer as many questions as I can. I have my PS3 in my office hooked up to the same monitor as my PC, so I have to switch over, so If I don't immediately respond to something, it's because I am on the PS3.

On to the questions, from the other topic.

I wanna know how are the Graphics compared to NASCAR 09? I really can't get a good grasp from the videos. Thanks.

IMO the graphics are a bit better than NASCAR 09. NASCAR 09 was a nice looking game, but I think NTG11 does a better job here. There is a very natural, organic look to it, almost like MLB The Show has. The color palate is there, but it's not too crisp, or overdone.

The car models are nicely executed, and tracks look beautiful.

1. I think we are all wondering about the difficulty of the game and if what we saw in the videos was on some easier level. Is the game more realistic than what the videos may have lead us to believe?

2. Is there a true career mode, or is it just a season, and how does that work?

3. Do you get the sense that you are at 30+ different tracks, or does it feel like most of the tracks run about the same?

1. I set the difficulty for the AI on the highest at Tally, Daytona, and Texas. They were very competitive at Tally and Daytona, and Texas were just better than me....flat out! What I really like so far about the AI, is that they are aggressive, but not cheap. They understand that you are also on the track, and try to be cautious of their surroundings. They did bump draft with me at Tally and Daytona, and I could do the same with them...and there was no sign of them being disturbed by it.

2. Have not jumped into career mode as of yet, but will give it a run as the day progresses.

3. There was a nice difference in the feel from Atlanta, Texas, Daytona and Tally. They didn't feel that same at all, and based off early impressions, they did a nice job trying to individualize and realistically replicate each track.

Pre-race presentation-Is there a full pace lap with the driver/grid position rundown like EA did a few years back? Very tv-style touch that was very nice. Also, any featured drivers pre-race?

Wreck/caution-how long is it between the wreck, caution and going into the pace lap? Time enough to 'go thru' the wreck if it happened up in front and you're in the back of the pack, or just 'there's a wreck' and then two seconds later in the caution lap?

Keep in mind, I have not done season or career, but in "race now" option, there was no pre-race or any presentation. It literally took you to the race about 100 yards away from the start finish line.

In regards to wrecking, you get to watch the whole wreck. It doesn't take you away to a cut scene instantly. I was in one at Tally, and it seemed like it lasted 20 seconds, and I was in one at Texas, and it only lasted about 10 seconds. Then it gives you the option to pit under caution...if you choose no, it takes to a few seconds before the green flag drops again.

I am very curious about the realism of the track surface. For example, Are there bumps in on the lowside of turns 1 and 2 at Las Vegas? Do the bumps upset the car and make you create a setup that can handle those bumps?

That leads to my other question. How much does messing with the setup actually change the feel of the car? When the track rubbers up, does the car get tighter?

From what I have seen, the bumps feel like they are barely noticeable. I felt a little bit at Daytona in turns 3 going into 4(keep in mind its still Daytona 10 on my copy) but nothing that really forced me to white knuckle the wheel at all. When an AI car gets into you, you notice that a lot more than any bumps on the track surface. If you're hoping to really feel the surface bumps and have it effect the car....probably not going to be real happy.

I will say the the driving model is really well done though, and you truly feel connected to the track surface.

Ok, going to go test some more, and try to get some photos, but videos may be very difficult. I am trying to find a way to do it right now. I will be back in a few to answer some more questions and give some solid impressions.

It is only endless until December of 2012 real time. Haven't you heard the news?

So is it the same season every time, but they just update the year? Do drivers progress/change? (I imagine that the drivers would all stay the same throughout...)

Where did the guy go that said he was going to play it on the 360 today? I figured we would hear from him how it is. If your out there, let us know how you like it.

Correct, the drivers will not retire or change teams. Not sure about any progression as I don't think that is in.

Im just scared im not having to make adjustments to my car and still running up front. I havent played in a few hours when i play again i will use the very hard setting. I just hope there is a way to add practice online and add AI drivers. Playing with my friend at Bristol with just two cars was lame.

I'm big on adjustments as that is why they included that feature. But if it doesn't do much then what is the point of having it? Hopefully the patch fixes a few areas as they have to know they screwed up dumbing the game down for everyone. Didn't they learn from EA's mistakes? Yet Shift 2 unleased is headed in the other direction and pushing towards sim. I read that if you don't race smart and if you don't have the right settings, you will find yourself sitting in last place. That to me is they way it should be. Nascar is not known to be an arcade franchise. That is what Mario Karts are for. You all know the age old saying: jack of all trades, master of none. Seems like many companies these days are doing just that.

I trust blue completely and I imagine that you can just pretend that Mark Martin gets replaced after 2013 with John Mr. Man

I 100% agree with this guys im not saying in anyway blue is incorrect about this game i just have a few concerns right now. Once again though the driving feels great such an improvement. I also know this is their first attempt at a racing game so maybe the patches will at east fix a few issues. For me at least adding MP Ai is huge for me.

Ok...Just raced at Daytona. I did just a simple 15 lapper, and at these settings.

Opponent - Very Hard(which is the hardest)

Diving aids- Legends(which is no assist at all, and the hardest available)

Qualifying: Results

Me - 1st
2nd - .67 behind
3rd .83 behind
4th .92 behind
5th .98 behind

So obviously, I should not be that much better in qualifying then the AI on the hardest settings. Please keep in mind, the day 1 patch is going to up the difficulty. I knew already, but I can't just talk about everything guys. Since Ed already mentioned, I guess its no big deal.

so......on to the race

Since I qualified first, obviously I set on the pole.

Lap 1....
Held the lead, competition was on my bumper, but held them off somewhat easily.

Lap 2...
Wash, rinse , repeat.....same as lap 1

lap 3...

3 cars make a push on the outside, and 2 overtake me. Kurt and Kyle Busch shoot off ahead, but leave Carl Edwards, who was the third car.

Lap 4...

Can't catch Kurt and Kyle, as they are gone. I finally hook up with Martin Truex Jr. and we start making some progress towards the Busch Bros.

A push of 4 cars go underneath us, and I break free to to catch their draft. I underestimated their speed, and miss their draft all together.

Lap 5...

Still trying to catch the front of the pack, and drafting offf who I can to get there. KnK still lead the race.

lap 6...
See lap 5

lap 7...
see lap 6

Lap...8

This where it gets interesting. There is a pack of about 7 cars around me now, and I am on the high-side right behind David Reutimann, as he is my drafting partner. We are making good progress on the outside, with a chance to take over 3rd, and 4th place.

KnK Busch are still leading at this point...

As we enter the tri-oval, someone gets pushed out of their draft and hooks me from behind, and that's when the big one hits.

Caution is thrown, and come back out on lap 11

Its all down hill from there, even though I pitted, my car is such a mess, I can't stay with anyone in the pack.

Finished 41st.....

So while the Qual might be a bit off for the plate tracks, the competition is not for me. If the guy streaming on jerkoff tv is legit, then I guess he is just a damn good racer, cause I have no idea how you beat the AI on very hard by 2 seconds.

keep in mind though, its not like the rest of the field was right there. There was probably 20-25 cars in the hunt, and being very competitive. The rest of the pack was in the back....kinda like what you see on Sunday.

I think this is going to be a damn good game. Justin TV is obviously trying to trash the game pre-release. There are some issues with NTG11, dont get me wrong, but so far i am pleased. Excited for march 29th!

Thanks, I have read enough. It is not uncommon to get the pole and find yourself in the back when it all ends. Isn't that how Daytona usually end? As a matter of fact, I can shut my eyes and see how this race unfolded for you. Sounds to me like real life and though I know the game isn't perfect especially for a first year effort, I have a feeling this game will only get better once they get the kinks worked out. I appreciate the time you put in for us and the honesty which I have and always will respect. Once my Amazon $25 back for TW 12 and $10 for Shift 2 unleased post to my account, this is where I will put the money. Should have the PS3 version by next weekend at the latest.

Thats exactly right, there are some issues. I have tried to point those issues out, but also point out a lot of the positives. NTG11 does an awful lot of things very well, and some things not so well. Once the patch hits Tuesday....then we all have the chance to see the game as a colletive whole.

Damn good question.......and I couldn't tell you to save my life. I have no idea if it's even a real soundtrack. I can't honestly recall any real music playing, it ll just sounded like "score" music. Next time I jump back on the PS3, I will make it a point to listen and look for ya.

Hey everyone, new here. In fact, just set up a username not 2 minutes ago. I signed up to first off thank Blue for the work he's done in getting his impressions and information out to us, and secondly, to participate in what I think has been an insightful and pretty darn fun community discussion to follow the past couple of days. I'm set to get this game after what I have seen and read from Blue and all the other contributors here, I do have one question though:

Blue, Have you seen any indication of teamwork in the races you've played, where drivers under the same banner hook up, that kind of thing, or is it more of a, find what works for you and follow it to the start/finish with the AI?

# 299 mashookaloo123 @ 03/26/11 12:26 AM
