NASCAR The Game 2011 News Post

I received the game this morning at 9 AM. Please keep in mind, I have only raced 4 times so far and practiced at another.

I am going to answer as many questions as I can that have already been asked, then will keep posting impressions and answer as many questions as I can. I have my PS3 in my office hooked up to the same monitor as my PC, so I have to switch over, so If I don't immediately respond to something, it's because I am on the PS3.

On to the questions, from the other topic.

I wanna know how are the Graphics compared to NASCAR 09? I really can't get a good grasp from the videos. Thanks.

IMO the graphics are a bit better than NASCAR 09. NASCAR 09 was a nice looking game, but I think NTG11 does a better job here. There is a very natural, organic look to it, almost like MLB The Show has. The color palate is there, but it's not too crisp, or overdone.

The car models are nicely executed, and tracks look beautiful.

1. I think we are all wondering about the difficulty of the game and if what we saw in the videos was on some easier level. Is the game more realistic than what the videos may have lead us to believe?

2. Is there a true career mode, or is it just a season, and how does that work?

3. Do you get the sense that you are at 30+ different tracks, or does it feel like most of the tracks run about the same?

1. I set the difficulty for the AI on the highest at Tally, Daytona, and Texas. They were very competitive at Tally and Daytona, and Texas were just better than me....flat out! What I really like so far about the AI, is that they are aggressive, but not cheap. They understand that you are also on the track, and try to be cautious of their surroundings. They did bump draft with me at Tally and Daytona, and I could do the same with them...and there was no sign of them being disturbed by it.

2. Have not jumped into career mode as of yet, but will give it a run as the day progresses.

3. There was a nice difference in the feel from Atlanta, Texas, Daytona and Tally. They didn't feel that same at all, and based off early impressions, they did a nice job trying to individualize and realistically replicate each track.

Pre-race presentation-Is there a full pace lap with the driver/grid position rundown like EA did a few years back? Very tv-style touch that was very nice. Also, any featured drivers pre-race?

Wreck/caution-how long is it between the wreck, caution and going into the pace lap? Time enough to 'go thru' the wreck if it happened up in front and you're in the back of the pack, or just 'there's a wreck' and then two seconds later in the caution lap?

Keep in mind, I have not done season or career, but in "race now" option, there was no pre-race or any presentation. It literally took you to the race about 100 yards away from the start finish line.

In regards to wrecking, you get to watch the whole wreck. It doesn't take you away to a cut scene instantly. I was in one at Tally, and it seemed like it lasted 20 seconds, and I was in one at Texas, and it only lasted about 10 seconds. Then it gives you the option to pit under caution...if you choose no, it takes to a few seconds before the green flag drops again.

I am very curious about the realism of the track surface. For example, Are there bumps in on the lowside of turns 1 and 2 at Las Vegas? Do the bumps upset the car and make you create a setup that can handle those bumps?

That leads to my other question. How much does messing with the setup actually change the feel of the car? When the track rubbers up, does the car get tighter?

From what I have seen, the bumps feel like they are barely noticeable. I felt a little bit at Daytona in turns 3 going into 4(keep in mind its still Daytona 10 on my copy) but nothing that really forced me to white knuckle the wheel at all. When an AI car gets into you, you notice that a lot more than any bumps on the track surface. If you're hoping to really feel the surface bumps and have it effect the car....probably not going to be real happy.

I will say the the driving model is really well done though, and you truly feel connected to the track surface.

Ok, going to go test some more, and try to get some photos, but videos may be very difficult. I am trying to find a way to do it right now. I will be back in a few to answer some more questions and give some solid impressions.

Hey Blue.

We've seen that the AI takes different lines, but do they ever run right up against the wall? Off the top of my head Montoya and Earnhardt Jr are common practitioners of this

It will be very interesting when she gets back in a cup car at the Circuit de Gilles Villeneuve Road Course , my opinion is it might go really good or horribly bad ....i think that course by the way would be a fun buy a track with xbox live later on what you think ?

No unless you restart your career.

I see AI up against the wall all the time. They really take advantage of the highline, but it's not overdone. I also wouldn't say that its only the usual suspects like a Dale Jr., but in general, they do a very good job of using the outside, tucked against the wall, if it will benfit them.

Holy crap thanks for the Texas pics. That track looks spot on. Lets just hope it drives as good as it looks.

I am impressed with the detail of both cockpit views. Everything I'd nicely done in including debris and fluid hitting the windscreen

So the world didn't end then? The way things were going on the Eutechnyx forums last night, I wasn't sure we'd see another dawn!

Seriously Blue, thanks for keeping your head when all about are losing theirs. It always amazes me how one video can cause an absolute meltdown. Anyone remember that NCAA football 11 that leaked last year?

Great impressions guys, being in the UK I'll probably have to wait until next weekend before I get the game. Gonna be a long week.

I think it drives very well, and I race TMS(revamped-reloaded 2010 edition) all the time in NASCAR 2003. In this race I used a controller, and did not qualify....so I started 43rd.

I just did a 15 lap race, and I used middle of the road assist(since I was using a controller) and put the AI on the hardest level. I was able to creep into the top 20, with about 3 laps left, but ended up finishing 30th out of 43.

Race was fun as hell to do though!

Edit: When I say top 20, I mean like 24th, so I should have said top 25.

yeah, it was really rough over there yesterday. I tried not to say too much, because then it sounds like I am defending the game. I have a great relationship with the guy's from Sandbox(marketing group for the game) and I freaking love Ed martin(VP of Eutechnyx) but I am not on their payroll. If this game was crap...I would let people know.

It's all about opinion, and he has a different opinion of the game then I do...so be it. So instead of goin over there and calling that guy an idiot, I just decided to keep posting what my thoughts were. Anybody who has read this whole thread, knows that I have not painted a picture of a perfect game...it has some issues. It also is very well done, and is a blast to race most of the time.

Everyone will see Tuesday, as I am sure that we will have people that just love the hell out of the game, and some people will not......it's truly that simple.

couple more questions:
1. When you enter an online lobby can you change your driver/scheme right away or do you have to completely leave to.
2. Same thing as #1 but replace drivers with setups.
3. Do the cars tend to bounce around like in real life?
4. Can you notice bumps at the race tracks?
5. Can you please post using the photo mode some of the secondary schemes.

BIG THANKS!!! Hurry up and get here tuesday!

I ordered the game from amazon with same day delivery. First time doing this, can any one tell me if the games usually come in the morning or at night. I know it depends on your location, but... are they usually shipped UPS or postal?

I am a driver for UPS and we ship all amazon orders. Most likely you will get the game towards the evening because we deliver our business stops first and then do our residential stops after that. I hope this answers your question.

I started new career with AI on Very Hard and my driver assist on pro one passed legend.
I started of Qualifying 11th at Daytona JJ won the pole it was a fun race i got the lead with 6 to go lead for 1 lap and then the train rolled by me. This is first time in Racing on console game where i took the lead and ran good line as was caught thats a good thing. I finished 6th never could get back to the front couldnt get in the draft of first five when they went by me.
2 nd race was at Cali i won the pole and lead ever lap won the race by 1.9 seconds. I run a very good line here never was much of a race.
3rd race was Vegas Qualified 9th finished 4th JJ won the pole i never led here couldnt get by JJ never left the top 10 here.
4th race was Hotlanta and i qualified 3rd Jeff Burton won the pole here. I was on rails here i was running laps in mid 30s and just smoked the field.
I havent made any adjustments to my car as of yet i really think once the patch comes out the SP on this game will be untouchable by any console game.
Blue thanks the cross hairs have saved me this time around havent had a crash as of yet. I am enjoying the game more and more i really hope the patches even tweak it a lil more to make it great for SP.
Also someone ask earlier if you got money for better upgrades from sponsors no you dont. I have 2 sponsors right now that give me plus 5 nxp for certain things each race. Other 2 sponsors want be unlocked unitl i mak the chase.

The spotters random conversation about eating shrimp to Hendrick boys wanting to get pizza tonight is odd. Just tell me if im clear or not. Last night at Daytona Carl went by me like i was standing still spotter says where did he come from. Im yelling at my TV saying i dont know im driving the car thats your damn job.

This is the thing for me. Every, and I do mean every, sports game has it's issues, but as long as they're fun I can see past them. That sentence alone makes me sure I'm going to enjoy this game. Thanks Blue for the no bs assessment.

I'll be glad when I don't have to keep hooking up the tv to my pc just to get a NASCAR fix.
