"It looks like everything we had been hearing over the last year and half has turned out to be true as word is now coming out that Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of 2K Sports, has approached the NFL about a licensing deal for the 2013 NFL season. It was rumored last month that the NFLPA, the official association representing players of the National Football League, were already in preliminary talks.
While nothing solid has been worked out, all the pieces are falling into place. Take-Two has sold of several major assets - including their mega-distributor JOAG in Cincinnati, Ohio in order to raise capital. We'll keep you updated as the details emerge."
when would an announcement be made for something like this? If it were 2k13 they could hypothetically make, then this coming summer would be the final exclusive Madden so we could assume an announcement would come shortly after that game is released right?
Idk, i was hoping id be hearing more rumors and stuff going into 2011 but theres nothing new going on with it.
Surely someone in marketing will realize that the NCAA agreement has expired. and 2k games can come in and make a move, but they move like a snail sometimes.
Seems 2K has too many developers and not enough politicians.
I think the NFL would be making a horrible business decision if they stuck with the exclusive license. Madden sales decrease every year. With more than one football game they would make 2ce as much money at least.
the nfl doesn't lose if they sell the exclusive. they sell that for a specified amount regardless of how many copies the developer sells. it is up to EA to make the most of their investment.
EA is one of a few major companies with zero debt every year. so they have pretty good bean counters there.
I think TAKE two does have the resources to make college and NFL football, they have alot of succesful titles as 2kgames, And would change their stratagy for the demand changes. If 2k would counter madden with college football, they would have alot of sales just givin the fact of another football title alone.2k should push this
well there is a huge rumor out that Activision is looking into acquiring Take Two. If that happens and they keep 2k Sports, then they will definitely have the resources to jump on the NFL license if it becomes available.
one thing to watch will be the NFL labor issue.....one scenario would have the union De-certify...essentially wiping out itself...so EVERY player would be a free agent representing themself.......well...no union would mean no video games with NFL players unless EVERY player signed off on being in a video game.
Can someone tell me why this license is so important? Why cant a company make a football game with fake names and league but a great engine. If its moddable the modders will fill in the rest within the first month. They cant be held liable for wehat modders create can they?
Generic games haven't been supported by the fans all that well for a variety of reasons and yeah, they aren't in the clear if the knowingly provide the tools to infringe on copyrights.
Marvel vs NCSoft over City of Heroes is one example of very similar litigation over providing a platform for players to infringe. NCSoft settled the lawsuit.
Honestly, it is a bit dirty and i wouldnt like to see it resort to that. However this coming year will be my first year of not buying Madden ever and i know it will hurt me more than it will them because i am such a big fan of football. Im just wore out of the same thing every year. i get pumped at football time and they have the only game on the market so i buy it. I play it and find it to be a rehash of the same old thing. maybe a bit of competition would do them good. Thats all.
I tried guys. I spent a lot of time on the Madden forums this year because I wanted to try and make a difference. I realized, however, that Tiburon, and the majority of the Madden community, really do not want a realistic game. It is apparent that 2k and EA went in completely opposite directions. 2k went the true simulation route while Madden made an arcade game based on Football with a few realistic elements sprinkled in. They have all kinds of elements like rocket catches, warping, nano blitzes and other things that 2k never seemed to have. I'm a person who wants realism. Being 35 and having had every Madden from 1988 until 2000, then playing 2k football for those years, I found a game that really hit the sweet spot for those of us wanting a realistic game.
It is quite apparent that the Madden development team is more interested in creating a game that is more "fun" than realistic. Those who are influencing the direction of the game like game changers are also encouraging them to make it fun instead of realistic. This is a fact, not an opinion. We also have conflicts of interest with guys like SGibs and ZFarls writing blitz and madden ball strategy guides who get paid big money to come up with silly blitzes. Why fix the problems with the defensive line when you have EA Game Changers profiting from coming up with blitzes? Playing with the Giants? Your front 4 won't matter at all, you will still have to blitz every play to get any realistic pressure. May as well be playing with the Browns. I really gave it a shot to try and be included in the current Madden community, but I just can't do it.
EA and the NFL have both ruined what was once something great. The Maddenites will line up again this year at midnight only to be sorely disappointed with yet another unpolished game on the field. I still find it amazing how they feel no shame or embarrassment that their game is light years behind a 5 year old game in how it represents the sport on the field.
It's obvious that 2k will never make another football game again. This great hobby reached it's peak in 2004 never to be seen again. It's time to move on and forget about ever getting a realistic football game up to the level of MLB the Show and NBA 2k.
So sad and true... Im just thankful for Ratesports for his rosters on All Pro even though they arent perfect theyre alot a fun and helps take the pain away of not having another football game to fall back on. Its funny how I can play a game thats 5 yrs old and still be amazed at the line play and interaction and the secondary play between the recievers and db yet feel frustrated playing the the other gm that obviously has superior graphics becuase its current yet can't give us halftime & post game highlights its pretty sad indeed. All I can ask myself is what if 2k decided to make one more follow up to all pro with update modes from 2k5...wow
Overall, I'm just sad, man. NCAA seems like it's going to be the same as 12 except for some useless features; then Madden is like superstar mode v 3.0 (now with coaches!) - the restrictions are just closeminded, and it's just sad because EA doesn't communicate or give anyone a good enough reason why things are the way they are.
Long live 2k at this point, I know I'll end up trying the other games - maybe I'll have my mind changed - but for now, I'm honestly bummed out.
With the possibility of EA losing its licenses, its very possible. After 2014, EA cant make NCAA Football games for 5 years so we could at least see a 2K College Football game
