"It looks like everything we had been hearing over the last year and half has turned out to be true as word is now coming out that Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of 2K Sports, has approached the NFL about a licensing deal for the 2013 NFL season. It was rumored last month that the NFLPA, the official association representing players of the National Football League, were already in preliminary talks.
While nothing solid has been worked out, all the pieces are falling into place. Take-Two has sold of several major assets - including their mega-distributor JOAG in Cincinnati, Ohio in order to raise capital. We'll keep you updated as the details emerge."
2k needs to go and talk to the people at Konami and get some advice. EA had an exclusive FIFA license and Konami still made a soccer game because gameplay was most important. And the internet was not as accessible as it is now. Konami had the player likeness and not the player name. But they had an editing system in the game where you could edit the name on the jersey. uniforms were not exact but someone always created uniforms and you could actually download into the game. They created the shell and let the user finish the product. It would be even easier now for this to done because of the internet and consumers are able to upload and download roster so easily. I don't know if player likeness is a part of the NFL licensing. I would think not as long as it is not the players name.
1997 is when I played my first Konami winning eleven game. I was in Europe and they love soccer. Everyone was buying this game with no license because. it was actually called ISS....International Superstar Soccer
I've been telling friends for awhile NFL will distribute license to more than one company this time around. They can milk both companies for money. In this economy they will take what they can get.
Please, PLEEEAASE be true. But in the meantime, I wonder if 2K will take a stab at an NCAA football game considering the NCAA exclusivity license ends a year before the NFL exclusivity.
My goodness, they need to just send them a copy of NBA 2K 11, and tell them that "we can do this to NFL Football."
That is exactly what I thought when playing NBA2k11 last night...EA does a great job on Soccer and Hockey.NCAA 11 is pretty darn good thi syear.Madden is pretty good too, but after a few months I have to say NCAA is superior.I hope 2k can at least make an NCAA or NFL football game again soon
Wow, this would be amazing if we could see that. Imagine a world where there are two football games again, it's been what, six years? 2k13, I'd love to see. I can wait...of course that's only IF the NFL goes forward with this.
I would sooooo love for this to happen, but I'm not getting my hopes up. I just can't imagine EA would let the exclusive license slip through their fingers.
This is great news. I just want 2K and Madden to be able to make football games. This way they keep the compitition going and we get better games instead of just one company making football games.
This would be great. With NBA 2K11 defining the new standard of sports videogames, an improving baseball franchise, hopefully a strong return of their NHL franchise next year, an NFL game would be the icing on the cake.
I don't know about that. If a company invests huge money in an exclusive deal they can expect increased sales while greatly cutting costs. The competition from NBA2k is costing EA a fortune right now with there basketball franchise.
