"EA SPORTS MMA brings the authenticity of the world’s most intense combat sport home like never before. Go on the offensive with a dynamic control system for strikes, elbows, knees and kicks and strategically manage advances and counters with an intuitive submission system. Battle it out in the Strikeforce cage or deliver vicious soccer kicks and head stomps in a ring in Japan. Are you ready? Let’s get it on!"
Just great. My copy is sitting at home, while I am in the hospital because a growth on my neck/back/shoulder decided to swell get painful and change colors. I am waiting in the er for like 2 hours now. If my neck didn't feel like it was about to explode, I'd leave.
Mine too. It is sitting at my house while I am stuck at work Can't WAIT for 5!!!!!!!!!
Matt and Quick we need to test some games this weekend.
2 fights in and everything I thought would be good about the game is good...and everything I thought would be bad is bad. I'll start with the bad.
Fedor vs. Rogers - I'm Fedor and immediately Rogers goes for a thai clinch. He gets it and I use a trip takedown to take him down. That sequence looked great. The one thing I feared would be bad about this game was the reversals and it appears I was right. I take down Rogers, he immediately reverses out of half guard to side contol on me. He then immediately goes to full mount and when I give him my back, he tries a rear naked choke.
Now Ive seen Rogers fight 4 times and I've never seen him have a good enough ground game to reverse anyone much less Fedor. Ive also never seen him go for a submission but within 1 min of the match he is attempting one. He reversed Fedor 3 times in round 1. THAT SHOULD NEVER HAPPEN.
The rest of the fight was fine. Fedor won by TKO after I got full mount and pounded him out.
The second fight was Eddie Alverez v. JZ- This was a whole lot of fun. JZ Cavalcante is a takedown machine and choked me out pretty fast. I had him stunned in the first but the CPU did the right thing by backpeddling and covering up.
I will say I was one of the few people who like and regularly play UFC 2010 but EA MMA has it beat when it comes to striking, ground game and submissions systems. Only major gripes I have so far is CPU controlled fighters not fighting like their real life counterparts, missing presentation elements like sponsors on certain fighters shorts and annoying commentary. I also prefer the speed of UFC 2010. The striking seems to be too fast at times in EA MMA. Also 5 min rounds are too long and leads to innacurate stats like 15 takedown attempts around.
ok out of the hospital and installing now, aholbert, do i need to confirm i have it with a pic, or is my rep on here good enough that you guys can take my word for it?

Nah this isnt Madden. Go ahead and post.
Seeing a reversal issue again. This time Melvin Manhoef was reversing me like crazy on Hard.
See aholbert I never had a reverse issue with the CPU in the demo. It was honestly way to easy for the user I felt. I could reverse far more often and never let the CPU pass on me.

Didnt have that issue on the demo either but saw it alot in the videos I saw. I remember commenting on it and the people in the forums said they disagreed.

Yea reversals only happen like Sb24 mentioned. You get reversed only when you are going for a major pass. So if you are holding up on the left stick then that will cause you to get reversed more. Minor passes are what you want to attempt way more often than not.
online is very balanced, phobia and i had 2 matches and split. light weights definitely move at a quicker pace. you can fight off of your back and don't feel helpless off of your back. Phobia survived being mounted and me having his back and ended up finishing a kimura/hammerlock from side control against my eddie alverez. I am looking foward to more matches against people and having the chess match that is mma with some of you guys online. whoopin some *** and taking some too.

SO the game is not a slug fest like some people said? Can you guys try to cheese and find exploits on purpose to give us an indication of what the game will be like online?
everything really has a defense, its hard to cheese, for 1 your stamina will go in the crapper. the only real complaint i have is the cpu tends to get psychic when it wants to on higher difficulties, but the ai is much better than the demo, i didnt see the thousand shots, and i actually had trouble getting a couple fights to the ground vs guys who want to stand and bang like robbie lawler. it is easy to push someone against the cage but you can parry shots and you can defend the takedown. till you get an opening to escape or get a takedown of your own. you can also throw your own knees while being clinched against the cage to take down your opponents stamina, empty stamina means pretty much a free pass.

the only time i see reversals is on a major pass attempt. i do see sweeps from full guard, that take you to your opponents half guard, but they are easily defended if you are looking for it. if you dont defend it they will happen at a great rate. you just gotta deny.

Sounds good. So I'm guessing it's not as easy to stun people anymore? On the demo apparently you could just come out throwing haymakers, and once the AI is in the stunned animation (or yourself) they become defenseless and makes for an easy KO every time.
