Check out the latest NBA 2K11 Developer Insight, discussing the Association.

Quote:
"Over the past few years, we have implemented some very successful features in NBA.com, Player Roles, Player Ambitions, Player Morale, Player Personalities, and so on. I feel like these additions have defined the 2K Association experience. Moving forward, I would like The Association to be defined by something completely different, and that’s the smartest AI of any franchise mode across all sports titles.

To achieve this goal, the main focus for us this year has been to completely re-write the underlying logic that drives the mode, along with adding new systems that will help the AI to make the smartest decisions possible at all times. Every time the CPU makes a move, they are making it for a very precise reason. It may not be completely evident to you at first as they often think two, three, even four steps ahead, but they are always thinking, always assessing. They have brains this year folks; here is how we did it…"

You are right. I screwed up it was 99 not 2000. I'm getting old.

YES!!!! NO LONGER WILL CHRIS BOSH LED THE LEAGUE IN REBOUNDING!!!!

But seriously im glad they fixed the upsets in the playoffs. Because it made no sense for the Houston Rockets and the Bobcats to be in the NBA Finals and the Lakers dont even make the playoffs.

I don't have to manually split up my team for scrimmages, and they have practice jerseys now. Practice awesomesauce confirmed.

Clearly Mike Wang and co. were looking to crush the comp going into this year. So many fixes and improvements.

100% correct. I think 2K saw a chance for a kill shot and they are going for it HARD. It is really incredible the amount of work that went into this one.

Imagine if the game improved by this much every year. Imagine if every sports game improved this much every year.

I am not a die hard basketball fan, but 2k11 has almost made me a day one buyer. I usually wait until the basketball games get cheaper and pick up the one that is cheapest. This year I am almost willing to spend $60 on 2k11.

Have you played both versions? The ps3 version looks horrible compared to the 360 and for some reason the framerate is worse.

High PIP, bad AI, and high shooting %'s have been fixed. I'm confident of that.
yes, I've read all of the insights and played the demo. Never in any of my years playing 2k has the lead up hype indicated the problems that would be in the final game.

we'll know what they've addressed when the game releases and not before. I bring these things up only because I hope their priorities are in order regarding those issues because there is a prevailing thought that the arcade tendencies and percentages were not an accident but rather a decision designed to please the casual audience.

I'm not complaining about anything as I don't have a game to complain about. Right now 2k11 is an idea to all of us, not a game. I'm voicing my concerns that we don't have a repeat of the last two years. With the demo on pro and not even being close to the final build there is no assurance that it is a true indicator of how the game will play when it's fully featured and on the appropriate difficulty.

maybe this will be the first year i actually use this mode. i havent done a franchise since nba 2k7 and i won the championship 11 years in a row simming all the games.

no mention of the team owners personalities. it would be nice to be able to choose what was important to your owner prior to starting association mode or at least if they updated them. example: for the last few years the blazers owner in the game was most concerned with making money, irl the blazers owner paul allen is the richest owner in pro sports and money is never an issue, winning is the only objective.

small gripe i guess with all the improvements. i dont usually get into association mode that much but i dont know how i can stay away this year, i will have to at least play a season or two just to see all these improvements for myself.

Over the course of developing 2K11’s The Association, these two features very quickly became my two best friends. Let’s start off with the Player Finder. With this feature, users can find players in the league that meet any search criteria you want. An example of this in use is as follows. I’ve started a new Association with the 76ers, but I’d like to find a new PG to run the team as I don’t see Louis Williams or Jrue Holiday in my future plans. Here is what I need: A PG that is under 28 years old, that makes less than 10M per year, that has a B+ or Better Outside Shot, and that has a B+ or Better Perimeter Defense rating. Just like that, I have a list of every player in the league that fits my criteria. When used properly, Player Finder is a very valuable took for team building and filling out your roster. Finding specialists has never been easier.
That's all I needed to hear. Everything else is great, but that paragraph put it over the top for me.

Now I just hope my centers aren't attempting 200 to 300 3's a season.

My hype just went way up for this game.....

Bit of a weird question.. but.. when you bring the classic teams into Association - how old would the players be?

For example if you use the 1998 Bulls team in a 2011 season will they all retire after 1 season as their ages would be 40+

?

Yeah about the lockout/2k12 talk. The NFL is facing a lockout after this season and if it happens you had better believe there will still be a Madden 12 with or without a football season.

The same applies with 2k basketball. These games are very real money makers for the publishers.

You've got to wonder if a lockout would actually increase sales... people can't get their real-life NFL or NBA fix, so they turn to video games.

if you win the championship after your 6th season will you still be meeting obama at the white house?

Awesome, just awesome! I'm loving the added metric stats, especially Usage Rate. I cannot believe PER, and EFF and those other advanced stats were in 2K10 all this time. I haven't played Association mode since 2K8. I will definitely jump back to Association this time around. Great job, 2K Team!

no i havent ive actually played the 2k series, both football and basketball since its inception on Sega. Last year i was extremely dissapointed with the game in general especially after stupidly buying it for both consoles on the release date because i was so sure i would enjoy it, and couldnt even play a game online. It was the first year that i gave madden a try because they gameplay seemed to be getting similar to NFL2k5s...

Trying Madden's online gameplay and online franchise mode after dealing with 2k's debacle was a revelation and Live, though improved, was definitely no 2K. And now after trying NCAA 11's Online Dynasty, im sorry to be harsh but realistically speaking its just pathetic to go back to one and done seasons with no substance.

i realize no other basketball game has done it, but i just think its a feature that should be in every single sports game its just an absolute must have for me at this point.

once again not trying to bash the game, if anything the reason why im so disapointed is because the game seems so awesome this year and it would be perfect to have that kind of gameplay with this mode. Last year they said that online Franchise is something they would look to implement in 2k11 so they must be well aware of its importance.

The great thing with the NBA 2K series is that they have the core game down so well they can now afford to spend development time on loads of little details. For me it's this attention to detail that makes 2K's NBA series stand out, not only in terms of basketball games, but sport games in general.
