NBA 2K11 News Post

1. What is the best thing about the demo?

Dustin Toms - The presentation looks fantastic. With the demo being so bare, it really stands out. The crowd atmosphere looks like it may the best to ever grace a sports game, and the score hub in the corner is eerily reminiscent of TNT. I think 2K is really on point with the overall presentation.

Chris Sanner - The presentation, the atmosphere, the gameplay -- shoot, the title screens even looks great. Once you get in the game, I am having a hard time finding much fault with 2K11. The entire package just looks legitimately smooth and excellent. But for me, the presentation really has taken a giant leap forward in a lot of ways. There are some new camera cut-ins, and the atmosphere added on top of that makes the game just feel realistic.

Steven Bartlett - The best element of this demo in my opinion is the improved responsive control. The player sliding issues seem to be gone, and jump shots are now more responsive than ever. 2K Sports seems to have designed a game that naturally places gamers into a situation where they can play a simulation style of basketball and look good doing it. It’s not forced. It’s not boring. It's pure hoops. The AI is even out there running set plays, utilizing intelligent help defense, and taking advantage of mismatches.

this demo left some room for ea to get more sales. some people are turn off by the lack of gameplay(2 player) in this demo. Overall 2k shot their self in the foot with this one . Any one new to 2k that plays this demo comes away saying whats all the fuss about. i bet the ea demo will be much better at showing off there basketball game. @2K you have to make a better first impression

Good read......

Thanks for the thread. I played the demo a few games lastnight and enjoyed it mainly because of everything you guys pointed out.

The one thing i'm going to do right off the bat though is slow things down some more to make the movement flow better.

I think this game is going to be sick once you drop the speed down a little. No sliding at all and the animations are outstanding. Can't waite to tweak this sucka in a month.

Thanks again!

The demo is about as bare bones as a demo can be. Yet amazingly it still reinforces the belief that this years game is going to be something special. As soon as I saw the picture of Staples Centre I felt that we were getting something special this year. The stat overlays & screen wipes are so well done this year. NBA 2K11 is the new benchmark in sports videogame presentation.

lol @ EA gaining more fans based on the AMAZING demo 2K presented us. Anyone who's turned off by the game because it features SINGLE-PLAYER (as a demo, no less) is an idiot not worth playing this awesome game.

2K shot "their self" () in the foot by releasing a demo that seems to have all signs pointing to it being the greatest SPORTS game ever?

The fuss is about the intelligent AI, the smooth movements, the amazing style of play, and the way they captured every player down to the T in terms of playstyle.

@EA, you have to actually make a decent product to earn a profit with your games.

This is clearly a troll or idiot I responded to and I feel really bad for the kid (he can't be older than 12, right?) because he hasn't played a real basketball game yet.

Go back to your board and enjoy dunking with Dwyane Wade over (through) 3 people (YEAH, I SAW THE VIDEO homeboy).

dont be a jerk with this obvious personal attack, his opinion was valid as he stated what he felt.

In my opinion 2k has always had bare-bones demo's compared to lives but as we will see their game will be better

I'm surprised that realism wasn't credited as the best thing about the demo. In the past Kobe was more of a threat slashing than pulling from mid range and so was just about every other swingman. That departure from real basketball seems to be rectified more than a little bit and consequence of that change has given us a far more realistic, balanced and fun brand of videogame basketball.

Agreed. Now I do agree that the guy is reaching, but it's not like he step on your mother's big toe.. The demo is sorely lacking, but if ANYTHING, people are more upset because it's SUCH a tease. Would you be upset with an ugly girl teasing and tempting your, or a gorgeous girl teasing and tempting you? To the people most upset with the settings of the demo, this game is Jessica Alba rubbing up against you wearing nothing but a towel...

(give me minute...)

Really now ?

How many people really care about 2 player on the same console nowadays in this generation ? Majority of people play 2 player via online this generation not on the same console.

So I really don't see how a demo can improve or hurt a game sale that much. The fans of a series will always buy it every year. A game really only convert 5 to 10% people over on a yearly basis.

If you a fan of a series and always have been, what one game has or don't have won't sway your opinon.

One of the biggest difference between the Live series and 2K series is the controls. You have those who love isomotion and those who hate it. That has always been the case for the past 10 years.

Visuals and what not, can be over looked. Controls schemes however will either make or break somebody's preference.

Both 2k and Live will continue to sale to their base. Neither demo will cause a mass exodus of fans flocking from one series to the other.

i was a sega fanboy. I've ben playing 2k sports game on line for ten years. name calling shows your age an any one thats thinks there god gift to any think is an idiot. MY point is NBA2k is a much better game then EAs. But new comers or people that dont follow 2k on line and just wait for the demo to there mind on what title to pick . will be disappointed with this demo, they change the iso my lil cuz didnt know that so he was like this wack. All his college friend talking about the ea game ( witch shall remain nameless) im tell him all the things that going to be in the 2k game a he trust me so he's going to pick it up but there are a lot of people like that and i still thing that ea will have a better demo not game demo that will show the new features in there game. i hate ea an their on-line pass $hit

This opinion is very valid. He's talking about casual fans who don't normally play NBA games or ever hear of operation sports. Those fans will not notice the subtleties that we do.2k has us on lock this year but they want to expand their audience. Jordan will do that but this demo did not help with capturing those people.

I love the demo by the way. Same thing every year for me -- I start off thinking it's just ok then I fall in love with it. CAN'T WAIT.

Casual fans will always shy away from 2K basketball games due to the complexity of their controls. That has always been a turn off to people and always will be. A lot of casuals are use to spin buttons, crossover buttons, etc.

I have always noticed this when I use to market sports games in Best Buys and Walmarts across the Chicagoland and northwest Indiana area. People will pick up the controller to a 2k NBA game kisok and would say this game looks great. But then they will get frustrated when they can't do spin moves and fancy crossovers.

godgift what ur gamertag psn id we take this out on the 5th

# 17 theprocess @ 09/16/10 05:37 PM
This will be probably be the first time in 3 years I don't end up buying both EA and 2k. I always end up trading one back in once January comes around.

I agree with almost everything the roundtable has said. Overall, lack of demo or not I like the control upgrade with the improved animations. 2k10 felt as robotic as LIVE did. I'm actually seeing Kobe, Ray Ray, KG, and others play how they actually would in real life.

I believe some fans will flip-flop back and forth either way. This game has taken a huge leap forward from what I've seen an experienced. I also think that EA has done the same, yet I haven't see a whole lot that has blown me away. Either they (EA) have a secret weapon or they are afraid to show how mediocre their game actually is.

Greatest sports DEMO ever (This Month?)...I give you "The Shrug".

This was a very weird statement. You're not gonna go out and by another basketball game based on the demo being not for two players or two short. The gameplays is still in the demo and that reflects how the game will be played.

If yuo get turned off just cause you can't play two players then you are prioritising the wrong thing about this game.

I mean there has to be some sense of giving back to the people who made you what you are. If anyone at 2K could explain to me what the strategy is behind throwing us a bone with a spec of meat on it is I'm all ears. There's no reason fans didnt deserve at least a 6 minute quarter or two 4 minute quarters. And taking away the core elements of offense and playcalling? Just not called for at this stage of sports gaming.
They give back in releasing a game full of features that we all want on 5 Oct. This is a demo and I don't see the reason for complaining about it.
Sure, would be nice to play more of the game but it's coming in a couple of weeks anyway.

The demo has gotten me even more psyched about the game. Plus, I've gotten to try it out a bit and see how the gameplay feels this year, exactly what a demo should do for you.

What if the demo had been 2 quarters instead, or 6 minutes? Would it have mattered? You can just restart the game again and play another 4 minutes anyway.
