1. What is the best thing about the demo?

Dustin Toms - The presentation looks fantastic. With the demo being so bare, it really stands out. The crowd atmosphere looks like it may the best to ever grace a sports game, and the score hub in the corner is eerily reminiscent of TNT. I think 2K is really on point with the overall presentation.

Chris Sanner - The presentation, the atmosphere, the gameplay -- shoot, the title screens even looks great. Once you get in the game, I am having a hard time finding much fault with 2K11. The entire package just looks legitimately smooth and excellent. But for me, the presentation really has taken a giant leap forward in a lot of ways. There are some new camera cut-ins, and the atmosphere added on top of that makes the game just feel realistic.

Steven Bartlett - The best element of this demo in my opinion is the improved responsive control. The player sliding issues seem to be gone, and jump shots are now more responsive than ever. 2K Sports seems to have designed a game that naturally places gamers into a situation where they can play a simulation style of basketball and look good doing it. It’s not forced. It’s not boring. It's pure hoops. The AI is even out there running set plays, utilizing intelligent help defense, and taking advantage of mismatches.

This is always the reaction to changes in a series. But the fans of the series trudge on and get used it. We saw that in this forum alone. People hate change, yet they say you're getting "stale" if you don't. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

People don't just judge based on demos. As a matter of fact, few actually do. It's a combination of a lot of things including word of mouth, previews, and marketing. Those college friends have either already made up their minds, or have only just begun to pay attention as the release date approaches.

I love the demo by the way. Same thing every year for me -- I start off thinking it's just ok then I fall in love with it. CAN'T WAIT.
Which is it? If they are casual, then they won't really notice any real change. They'll just look at the lighting and how it all animates, and go from there. In that regard, the demo will only add to the hype. That's IF you believe that the casual person isn't savvy enough to find out what changes are really there...

if you was new to playing b-ball videos game an all you had to make a choice was the two demos( i know ea demo is not out yet). I think 7 out of 10 would pick EAs game. NBA2K is a hard core game (witch i like ) most people dont like hard core (just look at the wii sales) BY leaving the demo bare and really only accessible to people in know . they made it hard on their self to get new customers. now when the game is released then word of mouth can make up for this.

You won't be able to tell until you go online. Then you will find out if people will actually have to shoot jump shots to be competitive. In 2k10 you didn't have to on the 360. O the PS3 online users would actually shoot more jump shots than running into the paint.

I would say the jump shots were too easy to hit on the PS3.

The 360 looked better and was much smoother but the PS3 played a better game of basketball.

you wouldnt believe how many people still by ea's game when 2k is much better. And the demo 2k put out does not help 2k get more people over from ea's game or new people to video game b-ball. the demo is for the hard core players you have to know how to play 2k to enjoy the demo. you give that demo to someone new and they cant do the move and become frustrated. i would love for 2k to kill ea an get NFL2k back

I am baffled at anyone complaining about the demo or what is included. Not once have I played a live demo and said wow, this feels better than 2k's. This was probably the best basketball demo I have played. You can't look at it as the company failed consumer's by not giving us everything. The purpose of demo is to show improved gameplay which in this case, is evident. I would question anyone that didn't get this game because a playbook wasn't in demo or it wasn't a full game. Be happy we got demo over two weeks earlier than last year.

i am a basketball nut and i enjoy playing b-ball sports games. I had no problem with 2k10 last year i accepted that no game will be perferct and innovations is what keep developers in business. with that said i love the complex control system 2k offers allows me to almost exactley imitate the nba basketball. add to that im a avid MJ fan that wanted to experience him on the next generation consoles. so for me this game offers more than whatni want

You're real spoiled mjjr....go download all of the past nba2k demos...they have always been 1 quarter and 4 minute games and I can tell you now its going to be like this next year...so don't act like 2k owes you anything as they have just been doing the same thing for years now...

And how many people are going to be NEW to these games? Come on. The only people that would be new are the one's enticed by the fact that Jordan will be in 2K or that Jam is in Elite honestly. So their choice is ALREADY made. Your reasoning makes no sense man. If you think people will be turned off because they can't play a 2 player game - knowing that will NOT be the case in the final version - why would they make a final decision based on something that's not permanent.

I think you're over-stating things. The last time I looked, 2K was outselling EA 4 to 1. We're talking about a series in EA that has been around and beloved for more than 15 years. Yet, this "hard core" and "hard to get into" game from 2K was outselling it. And Live 10 was, in my opinion, THE BEST version of Live since 95. So I think you're extrapolating the reaction to the demo quite a bit.

I don't think you need to be "hardcore" to want to play 2K. You just have to love the game of basketball and stick with it. Once you get in, chances are you'll get hooked even more. Again, look at the reactions here. Rough start to a much smoother finish. Now, some folks are even MORE sure they want the game.

EXACTLY. I think people are trying to make this a MUCH bigger deal than it actually is. Yes, it SUCKS that you can't call plays when the play call system was one of the bigger upgrades! But, like I said, if Jessica (oh baby...), told me that all of it could be mine in 3 weeks... I'd be PISSED for 3 weeks, but boy would it be worth the wait...

dude really? "anyone new to 2k"?? really? anyone whoever played virtual hoops, ea or 2k etc. would know that this is the real deal!! and this is only "a demo"! we dont need fanboys here. what we need is real Virtual hoops players!

# 36 jsg @ 09/16/10 07:14 PM
guys, we're taling about a demo. not the full game, but a demo

# 37 Carrington618 @ 09/16/10 07:22 PM
bollerbuzz sounds like a fanboy.
i play the demo's of the game to see if all the hype is real. i demo before i buy so the demo is important. Now all this reading i have done an all da czar videos i watch lets me know that 2k will kill EA's this years but everybody doesn't look for info on a game they try it outDemo B4 they spend that $60). And there will be plenty of people who never played video game ball an people who just got there system that base the purchase on the demo. bac to the aa stuff i ben playing video game ball since double dribble on the nes to laker vs celtics with only 8 teams with real players(1989) to tecmo(snes) b-ball fisrt game with a season. up to 2k (1) dreamcast fisrt on-line console b-ball game. come to think of it there are plenty of poeple on this site that never played a basket ball game and maybe they want to try it out so they play the demos. me i never played FIFA so i would demo fifa and the competition to see witch one i like the best. and if i came across a bare bone demo i dont think i would get that game

# 38 Carrington618 @ 09/16/10 07:23 PM
so yall mean to tell me that people(not all) dont chose a game base off the demo

# 39 Carrington618 @ 09/16/10 07:28 PM
so if EA mma and THQ ufc was coming out in 2 weeks and you dont read up on it b/c you just seen fight 120 on pay per view and now you want a fighting like one of those two. all you had to make your choice was the demo then what would you do

Lol they've done FAR more marketing-wise this year than just releasing a demo. They've arguably released more content about their game pre-release than I've seen any other developer even attempt to do. Granted, the game looks to have far more content than any other sports game to date. But you're totally disregarding the broad range of their efforts marketing the game and looking at one aspect (the demo), which is similar to what they've done in previous years. And been successful with, seeing as how they've been able to become the sales leader through quality of their product. If anything they released it a week or so earlier than they normally would.
