So far so good. I'm still getting used to the controls, cause I didn't play 2k10, but Im liking what I see. LOL, Now I know how to post up, bout to go play again. . . Anyway, here's a Highlight Video I just did, check it out
Got to play a little bit this morning and I'm loving everything. Passes don't zip through the defense, players have weight to them and dribbling is fun again. Downsides are we can only control the Lakers and no plays. I'll definitely be playing a lot more this afternoon and posting back here.
Shooting the Ball
As many of you know, shot control is one of the things I’m most passionate about when it comes to my virtual hoops. And I’m proud to say that NBA 2K11 got a huge upgrade in that regard. When we introduced the Shot Stick back in NBA 2K6 it was one of the best innovations of its time. Unfortunately, over the years, the Shot Stick hasn’t seen a whole lot of upgrades. That all changes this year.
The first thing we did was re-map the dunks, as we felt Basic, Flashy, and Power had way too much overlap. Now, the categories are:
● Straight = Normal/Signature dunk
● Left = Hop/Euro Step dunk
● Right = Rim Hang dunk
● Away = Spin dunk (in traffic) or Reverse dunk (on a breakaway)
● Twirl = 360 in air dunk (for the few guys that can do them)
We’ve also doubled our layup types:
● Shot Modifier + Straight = Euro Step or Fake Pass (think Rondo) Layup
● Shot Modifier + Left = Hop Step left layup
● Shot Modifier + Right = Hop Step right layup
● Shot Modifier + Away = Spin layup
Momentum jumpers also got some love. Like last year’s drifters, these play when you’re driving across the basket and are useful for creating space against the onball defender. These shots are also interruptible. So you can trigger the shot animation and neutral out the Shot Stick before your player gets off the ground for a pumpfake. I love doing this against overzealous defenders looking for a highlight block. Hit the brakes and they fly right by:
● Shot Stick with momentum = Drifter
● Shot Stick away from rim = Stepback jumper
● Shot Stick opposite your momentum = Spin jumper (Lebron uses this all the time IRL)
We’ve also given you the ability to perform Kobe’s reverse pivot, Hakeem’s dream shake, Rondo’s ball fake, and various up and under type moves on demand. When you hold the Shot Modifier (LT for 360 and L2 for PS3), flicking the Shot Stick for a pump fake will initiate the first part of the move - the type of move you get is based on the direction you flick your stick and the context of your movement
Thanks for this, I gotta spend sometime in practice mode.
The demo is freaking amazing! I'm getting it on both PC & XBOX360 now!
However, a couple things do irritate me because they've happened multiple times.
1. When Paul Pierce catches the ball at the corner 3, he ALWAYS pump fakes and drives to the right free-throw-line extended spot before fading backwards towards the 3pt line. It doesn't matter that Garnett and Gasol are right next to him. If he doesn't do that, he makes a pass, but it is ALWAYS from the same spot (right top corner of free throw line).
2. Ray Allen drives to the rim on fast breaks rather than jacking up a quick 3 despite the fact that there are 2-3 guys waiting for him inside. In real-life, he'd notice the impossibility of having a great shot available inside and jack up the 3.
3. Pau Gasol jumps about 13 feet in the air on rebounds. I mean, he just TOWERS over the basket (quite easily no less) to grab everything insight. I felt like I was cheesing despite the fact that I couldn't do anything about it. Also, on his post moves backing Garnett in, everytime a shot was taken where he leaned into the basket (think how an up-n-under looks) and Garnett was gone. I couldn't see an arm, head, nothing. What SHOULD happen is some kind of foul or somebody falling should occur.
4. The computer does the same thing everytime when the ball is received 5-feet past the low block. Turns and faces hoop, than a shot. No dribble, no hesitation...that's disappointing because a guy like O'Neal might do that, but Garnett takes a dribble and step-back. Worst of all is Glen Davis...he can't shoot over most 6-4 guys with his gator arms, let alone over Gasol or Bynum.
Other than that, the game is perfect for me. If they tighten up those small irritations, the game is 10/10 for me.
Very nice highlight vid. Only two I weren't too fond of were the two-handed Rondo dunk on a break and the Nate three. Everything else was very nice, looked at it several times. The Pierce move at 1:15 by the cpu is especially nice. The game is so smooth
A week?? WTF! omg.....wow.. Way to hype myself up for nothing. I really gotta change my priorities... =(
I dont know if anyone told you but you should be able to create a new profile and get a free Gold membership. Then you could download the Demo real quick, hope that helps.
On his back is entirely different, he beat Howard and got around him. To go over-top and through a 7 footer that's directly in front of you, for a guy like Ray Allen isn't realistic. I don't think we can really argue that. This is a sim community right? I think that's a legit complaint if so. So my beef is that the main issue that has plagued NBA 2k MIGHT still be present. My beef is that the play in the paint should be more realistic and more physical. Hopefully the sim sliders stop those sort of things from occurring.
How sim do you think the PRO difficulty with DEFAULT gamestyle should be? If you're not getting more dunks here than you should be, then that's a problem. Don't expect the defaults to be totally sim. We're already see nuff trepidation about getting passes picked. I think this is as designed. The game has more "sim" than what you're seeing in the demo.
I want to say PS3 demos are release around 6pm Pacific time. Who knows it could be next week too so I'm not putting my hopes up. I don't care what 2k says Sony is never on the ball when it comes to demos. No pun.
