NBA Elite 11 News Post

OS'ers jtdribbles25, 23 and Jano have posted their impressions of NBA Elite 11, from their hands-on time with the game at the Boost Mobile Elite 24 Event.

23 has posted a ton of video from the game on his Youtube channel. I just wanted to gather all of the videos together on one page, to make it easier to find and view.

We appreciate all the work 23, as well as the impressions, all 3 of you have given us.

To view the rest of them (17 in total), head over to 23's Youtube Channel, right here.

However, i re watched every video multiple times and found a lot more positives some of which i will post.If you truly go back over each video (with an open heart and a basketball Mind, that's if you have a high enough Bball IQ) presented over the last 2 days there are a lot more positives than negatives IMO. For example one of the videos with the Wizards vs. The Lakers i saw a big man actually use his pivot foot. That is a big deal...I also saw a traveling violation that is a big deal...I saw the excellent textures of the Jerseys. And Is it just me or did Kobe and Matt Barnes look pretty damn good. ( I point them out out simply because they got multiple ISO shots after dead ball situations)
My point is, yes the game play looked sporadic and as if it lacked polished, but a lot of that was because both users constantly pressed the double team button as if it was a defensive assist which lead to out of place defenders and an overall awkward look. (If you don't believe me cross reference every video that has came out for elite.)
If i had any questions for the developers it would not be if the crazy free throw line dunk is still an issue.
But rather i would ask more important questions like can u actually box out in this game because that is necessary.
And are the fouls going to be turned up...for example a derrick rose dunk had 2 be a foul simple because Oneal was in the restricted area. That is a big deal.
Oh and can you still walk the ball down the court.
Great post... I will be taking these videos with a grain of salt. I want to see official gameplay from the developers to see how the game is really going to look when two skilled players play it. No offense Jano, JT, or 23 but nobody knew what they were doing and were running around like headless chicken most of the time. Yes the animations need work but if you overlook that then you will see a lot of positives. You guys should really try the demo to see for yourselves. I know I will. Also some of you guys need to calm down, simply bashing gets nowhere, if you want to talk about the other game then go to the other forum and do it. You should always post your thoughts and concerns but you should always stay open minded about it.

I think some of the dribbling will look better once players learn to protect the ball and switch hands before they move in the opposite direction. It just didn't look right when the player moved right, with the ball still in his left hand.

Again, we need the demo. And I'm really hoping the EA vids look a lot better then these.

I've said it before, I'll say it again.

I'll wait for the demo.

That has to be the only way I can experience what the devs are talking about. What they're saying is not coming through in any of these videos (if they are, they're in VERY small samples).

For a game built around "physics" (or whose main focus was/is physics driven animation/events, and I quote physics because I'm not really seeing them being respected in a lot of the videos that have been released) I'm still seeing a lot of the same things that plague BOTH basketball games. Only they look a lot worse in the more "physics" based game.

Yall are making a big deal from that Boozer dunk....... I know someone who knows someone that knows someone that knows someone that knows someone that knows someone that knows Carlos Boozer and i'll relay a message to them to tell him to do a dunk from the free throw line in a game with 2 defenders close by to show you guys that he can indeed do that.

The signature moves are in full effect in those videos.

Nope you pass with the Right Trigger, its an odd choice thats for sure. This games are controls are a complete departure from previous bball games.

Everything from the layups to the dribbling they sound easy to pick up just watching vids but its whole new thing once you try it out.

I had to try and figure out how to do everything while playing against someone else so I was airballing shots short, long, to the left, it was horrible haha!

Passed up a few dunk opportunities because I thought RT was turbo for a while lol!

This is what happens when a game has no boundaries or animations to keep the game in check.

Some times we need those two player animations that'll keep the player from going all crazy on the court.

I just wish the dev team had another month or two to work on the game, I'm pretty sure some of these annoyances could of been worked out.

@Jano Wow, that is just weird. How can pass be a trigger and not a button. I think i'll stick to freestyle passing then, which I'm guessing is right trigger and right stick. How do you Icon pass, just hold down right trigger?

Wow........ thats is soooo funny. way to keep the mood light in these dark times.lol. What a way to end a long day.

Well some of the animations may be a little better because the build we played wasn't the final one.

I thought i would buy 2 basketball games this year.....................I think ill pass on elite...

# 93 eDotd @ 08/29/10 09:20 PM
I just finished watching them all, not impressed to say the least. There are some moments that show potential but overall..meh. Again, I know it's user vs user, it's off-screen footage, etc. That's why I'm reserving final judgment for the demo.

Even though the videos aren't doing the game justice, that's what the Devs have said all along. Community guys have urged everyone to at least try the game before writing it off, which is something everyone should be doing in the first place. How are you going to write a game off before even giving a FREE demo a try?

# 94 Jano @ 08/29/10 09:24 PM
Because to them if it looks crazy, its gotta be play like trash too. There's no middle ground you can't have a game that looks like "crap" but plays well that inconceivable lol!

Now I see where the issue was with Wang.

More than likely, he wanted to pretty up Live 10 a bit before working on the player/player physics. However, some bigwig marketing exec was so hellbent on having a feature that the other game didn't. They worked these engineers so hard, creating a feature that is irrelevant because the rest of the game is animated like its from the last decade. They had a control that 2k couldn't have competed with in Live 10!!!! WTH were they thinking?

I think this is going end up being a terrible miscalculation on EA's part.

The whole physics engine thing is the way of the future for NBA games, but I reckon Elite won't need ANY basketball knowledge at all in order to succeed, whereas with 2K11 the more basketball knowledge you have the better you will be at it.
Elite will be smooth and polished but for what it is, which isn't a real life basketball simulation game, but is just a basketball game. 2K will eventually step up to a physics based engine but they have the necessary basketball knowledge to implement into the game in order for it to take actual basketball skill and not just gaming skill to play.
That's what I think the difference between the two games will be this year. 2K = Real Life Basketball Simulation,
Elite = Basketball GAME

I retract that last statement because, if the game plays as well as Jano and the others claim, essentially I'd be paying $45 bucks for it, since NBA Jam comes with it. I'd put Jam as a $15 value.

I really hope the demo really shines but im not impressed by these vids...

I don't think 2k will go Physics based unless Elite kills them in sales, which is definitely not gonna happen this year. They're not gonna overhaul anything while they have the momentum they have now. Maybe on the next gen consoles you'll see them rebuild and go physics based.

And where the hell is this realistic physics in the 'Picture 007' video at 2:05 when the player with the ball just flicked his wrist at the defender and he went flying!! That is unforgivable and especially as PHYSICS is meant to be the main feature of the game! Shocking.
