GoMadden has just posted this Madden NFL 11 video on strategy pad criticisms.
Quote:
"If there is one thing fans can’t complain about in regards to the strategy pad, it’s that Creative Director Ian Cummings hasn’t been listening. In fact, over the last few days he has communicated with fans and taken messages on Twitter at a rate we would probably be best not to imagine. While a blog detailing the changes is expected to come soon in an attempt to quell knee-jerk concerns, I think there are some fundamental deficiencies to the strategy pad that warrant at least an option for players to revert to the old style."
Big deal.. I set up nanos.. I don't always blitz because that's not smart.. I still have to make adjustments to plays.
There are not enough plays in the playbooks that allow you to call a play then make no adjustment.. You have to adjust no matter what.. Sometimes that calls for 5 different adjustments.. Blitzing the A-gaps with two LBs.. then putting both DEs in contains while still having the DTs blitzing down.. It's difficult to do that in M11.. In M10.. It's simple.

So now I think the S-Pad was a brilliant move......
I think to prevent this is a large part of the reason for the switch. Basically EA wishes you'd stop doing what you're doing
so they want us to run their unrealistic plays? if they gave us better plays to combat certain a.i. deficiencies then this wouldn't be an issue and. If people are happy with this because they couldn't keep up with the massive adjustments needed that's fine and all but it's not sim because the default playcalls out of the 4-3 are not realistic. Especially considering in real life, a lot of things are done presnap in order to throw off a quarterbacks reads. Again we shouldn't of been restricted, there should of been more ways to counter it.

Then you need to come from a different angle. Based on that video, it's clear to me why EA put in the strategy pad. It's too bad they penalized straight players vs players that set up nanos.
I think instead of calling for the end of SP, people should start asking putting in more defensive plays for the 4-3.
Maybe that would be easier to patch or tune with their tuner.
This is what I continue to preach and I've said in other threads...
Defensively Madden is disgusting. The plays, ESPECIALLY in 4-3, are horrid and ineffective if ran without any adjustments. I play with the Falcons (a 4-3 team). I dont use the old playmaker system for glitching, nano blitzing or any of that. Heck I dont even think you can nano blitz out of the 4-3. So quick pre-snap adjustments are what I need to keep my defense anywhere close to competitive with such bs plays and low quality AI. I feel like I'm being punished and I didnt even do anything wrong.
Also
To the people that keep saying that the pad has grown on you, you should ask yourself what was the point of having them even spend time to implement this system when the one before it was completely fine. Should you have even had to adjust in the first place? Could they have spent that time working on something else?

As I stated in my last post, it's clear to me why EA decided this. I just saw a 6 minute video in here describing on to set up nanos in Madden 10 and how they can't do it in Madden 11.
It's evident there were a lot of complaints or stats that people use nano online. I fell bad for the people that didn't nano online and are being penalized for this.
Im sorry but thats just wrong.....I start immediately as well....have the play already drawn up in my Head and I can't complete the ones I used to be able to do before
Its not about getting "used to it" the intentionally added in delay limits the number of adjustments I can make
EDIT: Im talking about the Defensive side of the ball....
I use the same 3 steps every down on D side of the ball. Press coverage, spread front 4 out and spread the LBs out. I have success most of the time agaist the AI on All pro. But again that's me I guess. I do the same thign on D so I can do it fast without thinking about it.

that's a lot easier than having to adjust to the strong side of the formation (which you don't know until they line up) each down, especially if you like coming out of a base and making even ONE adjustment based off of that at the l.o.s. there is no time. No offense intended but if i played your way Legend, I really i wouldn't have a problem with the strat pad either.

For me, I don't wait til the LOS to see where the strongside is. I'll look once they break the huddle and align the d before they get to the line. If the TE goes in motion, I motion back.
Once they break the huddle, I'm snapping the d-pad. I know the down and distance, which is the strongside and what coverage I'll call before they get to the line. While I'm processing that information, I start using the d-pad.
Now, I'll preface that with I don't play online. All my play is offline.

well Im glad you can still make those changes and its fine with you
But I do more and move Troy around all over the place like the Steelers do in real life.........
Now Im being punished because EA can't fix their own game........
Like I said before in another thread.........
If we are going to go by this type of Band-Aid logic then
Lets just take away all user input with the players......because some people scramble around too much with Qbs, and we can't have any RBs cutting through holes that they wouldn't be able to see in real life
Im happy I can now snap the ball before you can setup your nanos
Awesome man. I'm glad for you. I'm not happy that this game has turned into highlight football. It's all about the offense. I bet you'll be happy that you will be dominated because you won't be able to set up any defensive plays.
Anyway, this isn't about me. It's about the limited ability to adjust to the offense. We shouldn't split into groups of "cheesers" and "sim" players. The game should be fixed so that nanos can't be done. They shouldn't LIMIT EVERY player because they have coded the offensive line incorrectly.
You should have the ability to make line calls that are complex.. Almost like an audible system that will allow you to tell OLman who to block..
I literally cannot get 2 different adjustments done without the ball being snapped. I'm not talking about setting up a nano.. I'm talking about containing my DEs so if my opponent decides to do a toss, I have it contained..
If my opponent is rolling out all game with Vick, I want to be able to stop it.. guess what, it's limited now because of the SP.
By the way, if you want to be able to compete with tournament players or anyone that plays for money, you MUST use nanos.. Go to any Madden Challenge.. Nanos/RC are not banned there. I want to compete with those players, so I choose to nano & RC.
I don't get on to you when you want to play the game as if it were real life. I do want this game to be realistic but I don't want to be limited when it comes to the play calling. If I have a play that works against you over and over, and you cannot adjust. I'm going to use it..
If Wade Phillips of the Cowboys had a play on offense that was an automatic 5 yds each time it was ran, would he run it? Yes. Are there plays that work every time? No. You want to know why? Because the defenses adjust.. Guess what you can't do because of the limited slow controls of the Strategy Pad? You can't adjust.

So you just made my point then....instead of wasting time making a clunky audible system they could have spent that time fixing the AI to where nanos cant be carried out, or to where the offense reacts to nanos better.
Sounds like more progress to me than changing an audible system that had nothing wrong with it. It's not like you can nano out of every play anyways. Countering them is not hard.

Or more defensive plays. Or a tiered calling system.
Although, hearing from Bezo, it would take a lot of development time to put in tiered play calling.

RC happens all the time in real life....Nano-ing, not at all. and why would I want to play against people who abuse the AI, you arent playing a game of football its more like who can abuse the AI the best.

not trying to be rude but Madden's AI practically abuses itself.
