Madden NFL 11 News Post

MyMaddenPad has posted the details of what the "Swagger" rating is all about for Madden NFL 11.

Quote:
"The "Old Spice Swagger" rating determines the likelihood of a player to celebrate on the way to the endzone, or after a touchdown. For example, a running back like Adrian Peterson (99 rating) has a greater tendency to celebrate than Frank Gore (50 rating)."

Do you plan on bringing Leon Lett out of retirement?

That's an interesting point. It would be cool to see players with 99 "Swagger" get penalized more after TD's than a guy with lower in the category.

Instead of "swagger" that just affects celebrations, why not have "confidence" that could affect the gameplay?

For example, when Peyton Manning throws a pick, he isn't going to worry about it. Take Jamarcus Russell and he will probably start playing worse if he throws a pick. I really don't know why they just didn't do this. I guess it won't net EA extra cash.
I don't understand why this one would bother you except for it's an ad for the sake of an ad or giving EA another jab of money making.

It's not even out on the playing field, it's hidden and tucked away in ratings.

Seems like a pointless addition IMO but i loved madden last year and this will in no way hurt the game so its take it or leave it for me.

I can understand and appreciate that. I said that because you brought it up twice, but I understand the level of frustration with franchise mode.

The only thing I will say about franchise mode is this:

A) They told us up front they are taking a year to work on franchise
B) I'd rather have a redone from scratch franchise mode vs one they just tuned, tweaked or didn't touch at all.

C) They better deliver the goods.

If you are the Eagles then yes it will. :-D

Aren't the franchise guys separate from the people that would implement something like this?

Reason I ask is that I don't think the time taken to do this took any time away from upgrading franchise.

Yes, I know. I'm just saying this probably had no impact on the lack of franchise updates.

Tendency to celebrate and swagger are not the same thing nor related...

I love the feature as long as they develop it and it's not a one and done deal. Adding "Life" to the game is always a good thing.

Not when you have gamers speculating and making suggestions all year, as well as a new development cycle that starts soon after the game is released. The standard for informing Madden gamers has been set so low on next-gen that what they did actually seems upfront in comparison.

Choice B shows you have alot of faith in EA about Madden 12, I hope you are right.
I would.

Gamers were complaining about misinformation from Madden 10 and now someone else says , "because it's a week before E3, doesn't cut it."

You can't have it both ways. Would you have rather rented or purchased 11 and discovered just tweaks here and there or would you rather know upfront before you rent or purchase that they are reworking franchise mode for next year?

Your choice.

Also, statement B that you bolded wasn't because I have a lot of faith in 12(when I haven't had a chance to put 11 in the hands, yet) that's just the way I've approached video games since the year 2000. I'm not that hard to please, I was a big fan of HH baseball because of the game play. Others couldn't stand the graphics because they looked like they came from the Atari era. Give me Techmo Bowl and RBI baseball any day of the week along with High Heat.

EA just needs to deliver on what they promised and we need to hold them to that.

Being upfront would of been announcing this when the new development cycle started or at least before the dev blogs started, IMO. It's cool if you think this is being upfront with consumers but I dont.

Also, how am I trying to have it both ways? I dont see how people complaining about misinformation means I should consider this being upfront. Is it better than them not saying anything at all, yeah but, that doesnt mean announcing it right before E3 is being upfront. It just means that, it's better than what they usually do. LOL! That was my earlier point about the standard being set so low, some people are thankful for anything, IMO.

That's what Im trying to do. When will "WE"? Gil Scott-Heron, "The revolution will not be televised".
No problems, agree to disagree.

Would it have really made a difference to you if they announced the news early in the cycle? Let's remember, they don't announce one bit of news till SB time. So, that was roughly 4 months ago.

I really don't think it would stop people from complaining that franchise mode didn't make it in. I'm sure OS will hear that till the end of the year.

I'm wondering if it will have an effect on WHEN they choose to celebrate. Some guys celebrate every chance, while some do at certain times to get their team pumped up. I'll be annoyed to see a guy like Tebow high stepping every time he makes a play, but if he never gets excited that'll be a killer too.

Not so sure about this y'all!

Individual player personality/animation is a historically sore spot for EA football games in my opinion. This isn't a bad addition. I'd like to see some character out there. Maybe this is a first step towards that.

As far as the advertising end, as long as we're not getting in-game commercials like SteveOS mentioned in his blog, I'm not going to really care to be honest.

I'll have to check out the historical 1994 SF 49ers...

Merton Hanks' swagger?
Spoiler

I don't mind the actual rating itself but the idea of having it sponsored really annoys me.

And why does AP have a 99 swagger rating? That makes no sense IMO. Sure he does his little signature run into the endzone but he doesn't go out of his way to celebrate like a TO or Ochocinco does.

I'm actually all for this.
Now don't get me wrong there are other more important things, IMO, that need worked on also:
Dreads ( )
A new passing system
A new engine alltogether

However anything that adds some life and less robbotic features I'm all for. Again, like I stated before, this needs to be enhanced and improved and not just another 1 year and done feature....

At first i thought it was very annoying that it was a sponsored rating. Now i'm starting to think that it being sponsored allows it to be put in the game. Of course this is only my thinking but something like a showboat rating usually seems to be the type of thing which gets passed of as not allowed to do cause NFL says so. But it being called swagger and sponsored seems to have got it in the game.

In general i don't like the advertising unless its in game and on things like a halftime show like Doritos Half time show or this Half time show is bought to you by Dodge or something along those lines.

However if advertising and game features being sponsored were to make the game cheaper that would be great However i don't think that'll ever happen.

One last thing. I think sponsoring worked well in the World Cup game. The World Cup scenario mode is sponsored by Coca Cola and has online updates.

If sponsors bring those little extra things to the game i may change my mind on it.
