Madden NFL 11 News Post

Phil Frazier has just posted another Madden NFL 11 blog. Here is a quote that should generate a TON of comments.

Quote:
"To re-write Franchise mode to take full advantage of the PS3 and Xbox 360 would take well over a year to do, which is why we’ve taken the approach we have up until now. With that in mind, we made the decision to focus this year’s development on making the core areas of Madden NFL better, namely the AI, animations, playcall, and online play. While that meant not making any major overhauls to Franchise or SuperStar, we were still able to make some notable improvements while we prepare for the future. Specifically, we improved franchise stats (especially season rushing yards and season sacks), in-game injuries, Super Bowl presentation, NCAA Draft Class tuning, and we even completely re-created over 8000 players in 32 draft classes. We also added the new Meadowlands Stadium as the 2014 Super Bowl site. However, the biggest addition to Franchise mode this year is Game Planning. This year you have the ability to create a new Game Plan for every game in Franchise if you choose to do so. If you’re playing the Colts or Saints, you can focus your defensive Game Plan around Manning or Brees. If you’re playing a team with a great secondary like the Eagles, you can focus your Game Plan more around running the ball. You can save off a separate Game Plan for every opponent you face and if they add new players after year one, you can go back and edit that Game Plan to account for those changes. This new feature allows you to be the coach that you always wanted to be."

I know guys are upset. But, he ask for ideas HERE. So I'll throw out a few.

1. Dynamic Commentary - Mention other things about the season, throughout.

2. Stat Overlays for league leaders in categories like standings (maybe during timeouts or quickly in-between plays)

3. Practice squads

4. Ability to apply roster updates (minus injuries) to the season. Mostly attribute changes and new players.

5. Play multi-player user games in ANY order. (Don't sim user games until I say so)

6. User selected (saved) highlights for the Extra Point.

7. Include the Lamar Hunt and George Halas Trophies. (Conference Champ is significant too)

8. Promo next week's games. Or future games in general.

9. Franchise relevant loading screens.

10. Different presentation and feel for Sunday Night and Monday Night games.

11. Dynamic lighting and attendance

12. Drama for injured players: (Aaron Rodgers is a game-time decision) Only to not find out until the announcer actually says weather is out or not at the start of the broadcast. (Example: "Aaron Rodgers has been nursing a sore right ankle this week but we've been told that he WILL play this afternoon.")

My suggestion: FInd a copy of 2K5. There is no excuse for this type of activity after 6years of next gen...SMH.

Just speaking on how you put it bro, And yes since its something small it can be added in with no issues. So Im still hoping and if not they can add it with a patch.

How many times will you say "Next Year" ? lol THink about that really? How many years have we been told.....just wait until next year.....WOW. This year is it for me!

What a joke. Will be 3rd year in a row not buying after 10 plus years of buying it.

Of course online franchise was not very popular. It was a complete joke; really it was just a lame mutiple season league.

I really though Ian and Co. had it going in the right direction but this is the 6th year on these platforms and it is total BS franchise/online franchise is a joke. Look at Franchise in the show. By now we should have a working IR, practice squad, dynamic free agency and a host of other things.

Ideas for Online Franchise Mode

1. Allow us to create leagues with less than 32 teams. I hate that if I have 16 human players in a league that the remaining teams will be computer controlled teams. Take a page from 2K5 and allow us to create leagues with only human controlled teams, hence an 8, 16, 24, or 32 team league. If I want to play the computer I would play offline franchiese.

2. Give commissioner of the league the ability to create and update league schedules especially if my first suggestion is implemented.

3. Allow commissioner of a league to determine winner if game is not played. I don't want this to be random. The commish should have the right to determine the winner.

4. Fix the playoff tie-breaker criteria. Alphabetical just doesn't cut it. Mimic the NFL playoff tie-breaker rules.

5. I loved the drafts in M10, however, if potentials were random it would make the experience much more authentic. After playing 1 season it was widely known who were the rookies with A and B potentials and which rookies to avoid. If you make the players random or the potentials random that would add to the drafting experience.

6. If suggestion 5 is implemented, add the ability to scout up-coming rookies before the draft. Something similar to offline franchise mode.

7. Finally, just give the commissioner more control. I would like to see more options available when viewing the franchiese via the web. Give us the ability to update schedules, determine winners and deeper stats via the web for online franchises.

Borrow Dynamic Weather from Tiger Woods PGA. And after it rains the field should be nice and wet even if the sun comes back out.

It kinda all makes sense.

Great Madden we have all been waiting for Madden '12

2013 NFL License is officially and EA will have a very difficult time renewing the license after that last court ruling, which means major competition in 2013.

And I'll mention again, i think its real smart what EA is doing here, love the honesty--and call me crazy, but I actually see hope in this decision they've made....why keep on rushing an unfinished product...

I don't play franchise mode too much, but it makes sense to me.

yeah I wouldn't put it past those suits at EA to be pulling funding from the next few years of the game to save up and try and buy another deal

Disappointed IF:

We see things like the stupid "Did he cross the goal line referee animation" every other TD.

Same 2 referee checking the distance animations

same wrong cut scenes of quarterback on the phone while he is supposed to be on the field.

If these things are all the same as well, the I am going to be disappointed, if they are fixed though and the presentation cut scenes and everything is looking put together I will be extremely happy.

Lets not forget guys that we still haven't yet had a complete game, I mean, their "overlays last year were like "The Titans moved to Nashville in 1998", half their cutscenes were wrong or irrelevant, the commentary was horrific. I mean, I get that Franchise is a big deal, and it deserves to be on point but there was a lot of work they could have done on madden 10 to earn our dollar with Madden 11 outside of Franchise.

If they fixed the bugs and improved other areas namely presentation, Im 100% cool with them taking some time to refine franchise.

Like I mentioned earlier, I'm highly disappointed in the news because Franchise Mode pretty much is the ONLY reason why I play Madden. I'm not an online competitive player when it comes to sports games. I like to kick back and enjoy my offline experience. Sure they're "fixing" stats etc..but the game mode as a whole is extremely boring. Nothing motivates me to want to come back after more than 2 full seasons.

I wish I could say that I'm optimistic that Madden 12 will be a great year for Franchise, but I've officially lost all faith in EA Tiburon. And for the first time ever, I honestly will not purchase the game. Will I play it? Sure, but I will not purchase it. At this point, I'm just going to observe from the sideline how the series develops. I will no longer put my hopes up. And I DEFINITELY no longer buy into the hype.

I'm looking forward to NCAA and Fifa 11 this year for my sports game fixes. Cheers.
Me too. But I'm gonna say NCAA and PES. Man Mode is just about as stale and dry as Madden's Franchise is. I've been Fifa's biggest cheerlader for a few years now and I just can't play it anymore. Why? MM is weak. Master League in PES is so far ahead. It's not really worth crying about, like K Gun said. I'm just gonna start to go after the games that make Franchising/Single Player experience a priority. NBA 2k,NCAA, NHL, PES, and hopefully Fifa (not holding my breath) can get me through this year just fine, and give me a great single player game. Not buying Madden will just save me time and money. Fifa is a wait and see, but it can be a non-purchase, too. I'm still holding out some hope for NBA Elite, might use the Madden or Fifa money on that.

My only real complaint is this. Why has NCAA team been able to get so many upgrades with the Online Dynasty improvements, locomotion and the blocking AI and Madden team seems so overwhelmed? They do exist in the same building and have the same toolkits. They even share members on certain teams. It just seems that the NCAA team got a lot more done with their time. Don't get it. So, therefore, I won't be getting Madden.....

# 234 Exonerated @ 06/12/10 02:43 AM
They need to release surveys like NCAA did last year. NCAA did what everyone wanted and it looks maaad!

Madden added things no one asked for and which no one cares for.

# 235 thekodinator @ 06/12/10 02:43 AM
effers.

i never thought i'd say this, but due to the recent news regarding ncaa's online dynasty and now this... ncaa might have finally surpassed madden.

Everybody you know plays franchise? What about, everybody I know doesn't touch it at all. Open up your minds, the world doesn't revolve around what YOU like. This community is very small compared to the general madden population I'm sure.

Not buying 11 because of no additions to franchise correct? I bet ya'll lump lumps bought 10 didnt you? So I know for a fact you're lying with the "no buy for me" bullcrap, for the simple fact that if franchise is so important to you, and you played madden 10, there's absolutely no reason NOT to buy 11 because it does have SOME improvements to franchise. Read the article again if you missed it.

Every year is going to be an improvement over the last year in pretty much all categories somehow someway. So if you dealt with 10s franchise mode, you'll most definitely deal with 11s because its GOING to be better.

Oh and by the way I'm a heavy sim style franchise player myself, just a little more real than most of ya'll, lol. See you in the madden impressions thread after release.
Madden 10 was the first Madden I got for next gen. I expected it to be everything from the old gen and then some. I played for a solid month, I admit it was good at first, but then franchise mode got old, online cheesers got old, AI cheating got old, etc. I let it sit for about 3 months because I thought the urge would come back (it didn't), then up and sold it.

Here's the thing. I don't NEED Madden. If Madden has what I want as a primarily Franchise gamer, I'd love to have it. But Madden 10 fell short of those expectations, and w/ Madden 11 admittedly not adding much to a gameplay area I play the most, there's no reason for me to spend my money on it when there's games like NBA 2k, Fifa, NBA Elite, etc actually making the effort to make serious improvements on a year to year basis. So no, it's not all lip service. For some of us this is a serious letdown, and just another case of the 'Wait til next year' mentality that has made EA/Tibs a parody of itself. You can fall for the hype train if you want, but this is one year where I will not.

At first, I thought this was like a criminal making a confession of a crime. He was being honest and forthright. But now that I think about it, it's more like a criminal with mounds of evidence against him confessing his guilt right before his court date. That's the way I see it. Disclaimer: Please don't take the analogy literally. I'm not calling EA criminals or anything. I'm just using that as an example.

One thing that blows my mind is how soon you all forget. It seems like just the other day, there were about a hundred threads saying that EA could not be trusted and that they lied to us about Madden 10. Yet they say they're working on making franchise mode great for 12 and you all take them at face value for that. Hell, last year, they said the same thing for this year. I can't find the exact quote, but it said in Madden 10 franchise they were focusing on getting the sim engine and stat tracking correct and that Madden 11(this year) is when we would really start to see the franchise mode blown out. Well, it's Madden 11 and they're saying almost the exact same thing this year that they said last year.

Something isn't right about this whole thing. For instance, they say it takes well over a year to redo franchise mode, yet madden 11 comes out in 2 months and they want suggestions? In 2 months they will have a year to work on franchise. Umm, if it takes well over a year to redo franchise, shouldn't they already have an idea of what they're going to do? Like I said, Something isn't right here.
Well, we can't have it both ways. You can't condemn someone for not being honest/upfront, and then when they are, claim they have ulterior motives. That's just not fair.

I was pretty harsh on their hype last year, knowing based on the state of '09, what they were promising, what they had delivered in the past, that the odds of them hitting their mark was nigh impossible. They put out a game, but I think it's consensus for those that followed the blogs, press releases, gameplay vids/explanations that they didn't deliver on all that was promised in M10, even though it was a step forward for the franchise. I far prefer the low key, straight forward (it's in the game, not 'might' be in the game) approach this year, and I can both appreciate and respect a press release letting fans know well ahead of time that certain things they may be looking forward to aren't going to make the release. I have a pretty good idea of what M11 will be, and I fully expect everything that they've showed us to be in the game.

Last year, I expected M10 to far less than the hype, this year, I expected M11 to be better than they hype (if Locomotion delivers), even though I'm far less interested in the features they are adding such as GameFlow/GamePlan, 3vs3 online, etc. Locomotion is going to be huge, and 'if' they get it right, and will setup Madden's core GamePlay well moving forward.

If they truly do a reset, then I love the idea, because Franchise, and especially career mode have been stale in ALL video games for nearly half a decade. I hope they broaden their horizons, and think outside the box on these modes. There's a lot of opportunity to be had there, especially if they think of the user acting within a role (Owner, Coach(es), Players).

BitterSweet!!!

The word pretty much sums up this news IMO. I love the fact that they are gonna re-write the code for franchise and (hopefully) blow us away with something Amazing.

Terribly pissed that nothing has been done for us franchisers this year. I mean seriously isn't there a team (josh Looman) specifically hired for fixing franchise? Did he get the year off this year? They state that online franchise wasn't a big hit...........could it be cause it was half @$$ed to begin with? Why would people wanna play it?

Why do they add a new feature/mode every year just to give up on it the next year?

Don't get me wrong I have and probably always will buy Madden cause I love the NFL and its worth $60 bucks to me. And I appreciate all that they have done this year especially gameplay wise seeing that is the most important part of the game IMO. But this new does hurt

And the " give us info on how to make franchise better" is kinda a slap in the face. If there is not Over 1000 threads with over 1,000,000 post on Ideas for Franchise on this site alone.

EA the info has has been out there for atleast 5-6 yrs now. Its as simple as hitting the search button.

# 240 da ThRONe @ 06/12/10 05:40 AM
I'm 100% ok with this. But like many have said this better result in excellent gameplay. If game play blows me away they get a free pass til M12 to get franchise right.

We can point out the obvious that the old direction of Madden has ruin this game up until now. Or we can appreciate that we have new direction committed to getting it right from here on out. I personally rather the latter.
