Madden NFL 11 News Post

Phil Frazier has just posted another Madden NFL 11 blog. Here is a quote that should generate a TON of comments.

Quote:
"To re-write Franchise mode to take full advantage of the PS3 and Xbox 360 would take well over a year to do, which is why we’ve taken the approach we have up until now. With that in mind, we made the decision to focus this year’s development on making the core areas of Madden NFL better, namely the AI, animations, playcall, and online play. While that meant not making any major overhauls to Franchise or SuperStar, we were still able to make some notable improvements while we prepare for the future. Specifically, we improved franchise stats (especially season rushing yards and season sacks), in-game injuries, Super Bowl presentation, NCAA Draft Class tuning, and we even completely re-created over 8000 players in 32 draft classes. We also added the new Meadowlands Stadium as the 2014 Super Bowl site. However, the biggest addition to Franchise mode this year is Game Planning. This year you have the ability to create a new Game Plan for every game in Franchise if you choose to do so. If you’re playing the Colts or Saints, you can focus your defensive Game Plan around Manning or Brees. If you’re playing a team with a great secondary like the Eagles, you can focus your Game Plan more around running the ball. You can save off a separate Game Plan for every opponent you face and if they add new players after year one, you can go back and edit that Game Plan to account for those changes. This new feature allows you to be the coach that you always wanted to be."

Like many have said I appreciate their honesty but did they actually say they are redoing the franchise for next years game?, because I thought I read that they said it takes a year to restructure it....so to me that implies it could b 2012, 2013, 2014....or whenever they seem to get to it.

I think this yrs gm will have major game play improvements but it wont be perfect therefore it may b something they may have to work on again next year especially if they are building from the ground up.

I think they are finally on the right track but I am not sure on when everything will come together the way us gamers have been hoping...I mean we've been asking for the minor details ever since the next gen console have been out. So it may be 2-3 or even 4 more years before we see a huge chunk of the wish-list and other suggestions from this board incorporated in the game.

People complain about every aspect of Madden and when they try to focus on particular things year to year in layers, they can't get to everything because they DON'T have that much time with yearly releases. EVERY game company has numbers to make, including 2K, and when it comes to sports games, they come out every year. Again, NOT much time to get to everything. I could go on, but I won't. I BEEN knew about the engine and code being limited and have spoke on it so hearing such things don't bother me. They'll get a new engine. Trust me.

Now, this announcement about franchise doesn't really bother me. I'm good with it as long as the game play (and presentation) keeps getting better. I care most about game play and I get into the franchise every year. If it falls by the way side to keep improving gameplay, I don't care. I don't go all nuts about stats and the like, anyway. It's not like I'm the actual players getting PAID to put them up.

I'm good.
Well if they are being "UPFRONT" and we should applaud them that's fine and dandy... But how many times can Ea Tiburon be "UPFRONT" because they say a bunch of things every year.. Every year they improve a tad.. But never really deliver.. I don't have a beef with EA.. Because the NHL series, I believe it when they are Being UPFRONT in recent years because they improved their game 10 fold.. Even some of the most avid madden players are starting to get frustrated...

Madden 10 was the first next gen Madden I bought. I don't have $60 to be wasting on a half assed game every year. Madden 10 was good but there was still a lot missing, mainly within Franchise mode. If that is not upgraded, then hell no, I will not be putting my money towards what they admit is a glorified roster update w/ a few gameplay tweaks that should've been in years ago. I'd rather put that towards teams that actually seem to be trying - NBA 2k11, FIFA, NCAA, heck maybe even try NBA Elite - than same old Madden. See you in 2011.

LOL just wow... This news sucks big time, especially because franchise is the only mode I play. No serious additions - Really? Game flow was the big time feature this year?

Let me help get that bullet out of your foot Madden.

Kudos to EA for not ignoring the calls for word on franchise mode and not just letting it go unannounced until we all figured it out ourselves anyway, but the announcement is the nail in the coffin for me - definitely not going to be buying M11.

EA has a history on not living up to future plans (they said EASports on PC was back for last year...) so I don't really expect much for M12 either. There could be a new team and new direction by then, which is not sounding like a terrible thing honestly.

They fixed stats? they said they would fix that last year, then they said they would fix that through patches and that didnt work, now we are supposed to believe its fixed in madden 11, lets just say i have a reason to doubt something as simple as stats will be fixed.

However we cant really complain we just have to go with it because no matter what we do or say they have already made the decision for us that Franchise mode isnt that.

With that said i just hope its not more of the same in 2012 where they say heres a new simple franchise and we will slowly add to it over the years, i want and think we deserve a huge overhaul with everything we have been asking for for the last 6 years. something on Head Coach level, anything less and i will be disappointed

Some of us live and die by Franchise Mode and as much as i want to say im so outraged that i wont buy madden 11 i probably will and thats where they get us, its the only NFL game we have
Ding ding ding.

I won't have a HUGE issue with this announcement (it's still a bit disappointing however) as long as they fix the ISSUES with franchise mode, add a VIDEO highlight show to the mix, progression throughout the season, progressive lighting, AND gameplay is as good as they say it will be. If they fall short on delivering an AMAZING gameplay experience on the field this year, THEN I will be pissed. Because if the game isn't vastly improved on the field over last year, it will be a big disappointment on what they tried to accomplish this ENTIRE year...

Another note: I liked the whole idea of this gameplan/gameflow mode ever since I heard about it. But that was when I thought it was "extra" and they were still putting resources towards improving franchise mode. There is NO reason to add this feature before franchise improvements.

I trust that gamers here on OS will come up with some great stuff. I just wanna make sure we KEEP at least one thing in this re-building process.......multi-player franchise.

PLEASE don't handcuff my favorite game mode!!!!

Gay! Only NCAA 11 for me this year, pick up both for 2012. Oh and who cares about Superstar mode......

Are you kidding me...These Madden Game developers need to step it up. I mean who prioritizes the roadmap for these guys? If you cant do it hire some consultants to do it for you..this in inexcusable..

# 191 AustSaint @ 06/11/10 10:53 PM
Am shocked, this will be the first year in 15 odd years that I won't be getting Madden. The worst thing is the a Saints player finally gets on the front cover and I don't get it. I guess M12 better be amazing franchise wise

# 192 Hooe @ 06/11/10 10:56 PM
Not a huge deal to me so long as the gameplay delivers in spades.

Looking forward to what they have in store down the road.

If they make SuperStar anywhere close to what Road to the Show is, SS would hands down be my favorite mode.

Its good to see the new direction Madden is taking, this reassembled team might actually be able to get Madden ranked up there with other leading titles...And while i understand the concern of those who are disappointed, its better this way--to me anyway--even though we want it all right now.
I agree completely Pacman. It's easy to respect upfront honesty, just like it's easy to despise out right dishonesty. Now, if they can get Peter Moore to actually step up and say 'yes, we lobbied the NFL for the exclusive license, and we realize our responsibility to the fans', instead of lying about it, saying the NFL wanted it, after it's been reported on multiple websites that EA did in fact lobby for it, EA can being working from an honest / straight forward perspective with fans. They never do themselves favors by over hyping, lying, or avoiding. We might not always like the news, but at least we can respect them for it, versus be happy with the news, finding out later it's bunk and that EA misled us. It's a completely different paradigm and a change with the company, one that's been a long time coming. If they get Peter Moore on the record apologizing for his previous statements, then I might actually be able to respect him/EA again.

I keep telling myself that it's just a game and it's not that big of deal...but I read this news hours ago and I still haven't gotten over the immense level of disappointment I'm feeling.

This information ruined my entire day...literally. I went back to the office to work on a project, took a drive to the beach, and kissed my wife on the forehead...and I still can't shake this sinking feeling in my stomach.

The only reason I decided to post this is because I'm hoping that by getting this off my chest and putting it out there, I'll start to feel better...

Thanks Val...lol, good luck w/ that....
EA has lost a ton of respect on the Madden front, but also in the trust/believe area dealing with majority of their games. While the Madden devs are at least appearing to try, the EA leadership has blown it too many times with the terrible quality of several released games, the patty cake approach to "developing" games, and the approach to selling these "games" (so don't even qualify or warrant $60, but advertising will sell almost anything). This is actually a good sign from the Tiburon team, at least to me...though people have a right to be upset, they really shouldn't be, high quality games don't happen overnight, patience guys, remember what this gen started with?? We gotta get out of the hole first, and now it seems they have the right guys in the right places.

btw...What do you mean, "You people"???

EA just put in superbowl history on all the players that has already won it and the year ,And make sure it shows up in every players award history when other players and teams win the superbowl. So make it say 2011 superbowl champion and 2012 superbowl champion. have it say this in each players award history through out our whole fran-mode and we can wait it out for MADDEN 12
