Madden NFL 11 News Post

Phil Frazier has just posted another Madden NFL 11 blog. Here is a quote that should generate a TON of comments.

Quote:
"To re-write Franchise mode to take full advantage of the PS3 and Xbox 360 would take well over a year to do, which is why we’ve taken the approach we have up until now. With that in mind, we made the decision to focus this year’s development on making the core areas of Madden NFL better, namely the AI, animations, playcall, and online play. While that meant not making any major overhauls to Franchise or SuperStar, we were still able to make some notable improvements while we prepare for the future. Specifically, we improved franchise stats (especially season rushing yards and season sacks), in-game injuries, Super Bowl presentation, NCAA Draft Class tuning, and we even completely re-created over 8000 players in 32 draft classes. We also added the new Meadowlands Stadium as the 2014 Super Bowl site. However, the biggest addition to Franchise mode this year is Game Planning. This year you have the ability to create a new Game Plan for every game in Franchise if you choose to do so. If you’re playing the Colts or Saints, you can focus your defensive Game Plan around Manning or Brees. If you’re playing a team with a great secondary like the Eagles, you can focus your Game Plan more around running the ball. You can save off a separate Game Plan for every opponent you face and if they add new players after year one, you can go back and edit that Game Plan to account for those changes. This new feature allows you to be the coach that you always wanted to be."

Working year to year in Layers? They're working on the SAME things they were working on A HALF A DECADE AGO. What are you talking about?

It's not time, it's resources. They aren't applying enough resources to add these things. A team can be working on offline/online franchise, while another team works on game play.

They had this in the game 6 YEARS AGO.

That's not complaining. That's just saying it like it is.

I've been in software dev. for over 30 years.
How bout quoting the part I wrote about the limited code and engine? There's your foundation of the game, period. At least NHL 11 and NBA Elite 11 will have new engines. Who knows why they weren't able to get it into Madden 11 but I could bet they'll have it in Madden 12 and even more improved than what's going to be in NHL/Elite 11.

I'll let you all continue to get all bent out of shape. Some of us can see more than just we, as individuals, may personally want and can be more even keel then some of you can't and are just never satisfied.

Hey guys, yeah this sucks...I'm not going to deny that. Looking at the positives though (potentially) I'd rather have 1 great game in NCAA than 2 mediocre football games like we've had every year since I can remember.

Of course this is all contingent on NCAA actually being good...

You posted this 5x already, we get it. Besides I don't see why you're holding out hope for this.

It won't be - those could have easily been played up as a major additions to franchise by EA.

I'm betting it will be identical to M10's, a new spreadsheet of rookies imported into the game with names like Peyton Fanning, and "fixed" stats.......like they "fixed" them in that update for M10.

The same way you all keep talking down on a game you havent played yet,And still you cry about the things that you have been told that is not in the game this year. So do like real fans do and worry about the things that can be put into the game through a patch or them just adding it in because its nothing to do its just like the draft history and probowl history. But for your info Im going to give you what you need.CRY BABY

I knew it would be "fix core gameplay, and add to franchise next year." This is the saaaammmmeeee BS that they have said every year for atleast 3 years.

# 208 CreatineKasey @ 06/11/10 11:47 PM
Splff I guess I can be the first person you've seen who does NOT even try franchise mode every year. I have not opened up offline franchise in next gen Madden.

This news has little to no bearing on me. I'm kind of bummed to hear they're looking at focusing on franchise for M12. I want the gameplay focus to continue personally.

Not to be a cynic, but if it takes them this long to get Franchise right, you really think they're gonna have the details that you want correct? No need to resort to namecalling BTW.

# 210 MarvellousOne @ 06/11/10 11:51 PM
So it's wait until Madden 12 to get franchise mode correct. Basically that's telling me skip madden 11 and buy next years game if you like franchise mode that much. This mode hasn't really seen anything impressive since 2005, now we have to wait another year for them to finally give it some attention...7 damn years of nothing for franchise mode but some lame presentation show, and an addition of hand created rookies...lame I swear...well at least they tuned Draft classes and maybe the gameplan feature will make it somewhat enjoyable.

Oh well, at least they where up front about this.

Just disappointing to see Madden for this generation go down this way.

I hate to jump in but for the first time in over 10 years I won't be buying Madden. I've never even considered that really until now. After assuring us franchise was due for an overhaul, both online and offline, we get next to nothing in franchise mode. The franchise mode as it is now is so stale and lackluster that there is little reason to play it. Terrible decision.

# 214 PantherBeast_OS @ 06/12/10 12:15 AM
Well at this point this a major bummer from this stand point. So I guess we will have to wait until madden 12 next year to get a major improvement. But atleast they are taking our advice and trying to add it in next year madden. I kknow alot of people are going to be unhappy. But I think another year of wait ain't to bad. But franchsise in madden 11 is still going to be good despite no big changes. But it is the way it is.

You also got to remember they also added real staduim music in this year aswell. I pretty happy for this year. Since I know for madden 12 EA is going to focus more offline franchise next year. I can wait.

They never do themselves favors by over hyping, lying, or avoiding. We might not always like the news, but at least we can respect them for it, versus be happy with the news, finding out later it's bunk and that EA misled us. It's a completely different paradigm and a change with the company, one that's been a long time coming. If they get Peter Moore on the record apologizing for his previous statements, then I might actually be able to respect him/EA again.
You know, at first, I was giving EA props for being upfront and honest about it, but now that I think about it, I think they were just trying to beat everyone else to the punch. E3 starts on Monday and I guarantee by Monday night we all would have known about this anyway. So in essence, they're being upfront because they have to. At first, I thought this was like a criminal making a confession of a crime. He was being honest and forthright. But now that I think about it, it's more like a criminal with mounds of evidence against him confessing his guilt right before his court date. That's the way I see it. Disclaimer: Please don't take the analogy literally. I'm not calling EA criminals or anything. I'm just using that as an example.

One thing that blows my mind is how soon you all forget. It seems like just the other day, there were about a hundred threads saying that EA could not be trusted and that they lied to us about Madden 10. Yet they say they're working on making franchise mode great for 12 and you all take them at face value for that. Hell, last year, they said the same thing for this year. I can't find the exact quote, but it said in Madden 10 franchise they were focusing on getting the sim engine and stat tracking correct and that Madden 11(this year) is when we would really start to see the franchise mode blown out. Well, it's Madden 11 and they're saying almost the exact same thing this year that they said last year.

Something isn't right about this whole thing. For instance, they say it takes well over a year to redo franchise mode, yet madden 11 comes out in 2 months and they want suggestions? In 2 months they will have a year to work on franchise. Umm, if it takes well over a year to redo franchise, shouldn't they already have an idea of what they're going to do? Like I said, Something isn't right here.

Sounds like a real bummer for franchise guys, but honestly its something that we all knew was a huge problem. Franchise mode was just never correct.

I kinda wish they would've said the same thing about the running animations and the trenches (OL/DL interaction) lol...

Im ok with the decision though (not that I ace a choice anyway lol)

Good thing NCAA looks great. I think this will be the first year since 2005 I've passed on Madden. I've said that before and ponied up for it, but I'm a die hard franchise guy so I'm hopeful.

# 219 SubZero97 @ 06/12/10 12:43 AM
the average madden baller doesnt even play franchise. They are addressing the most important needs and complaints.

WHich is gameplay and online.

It sucks but its the way it is. Franchise mode in Madden is like Madden for the PC, its always last.

Next year you guys will get your wish, but this year its about gameplay BABY!!!! Those who wont buy Madden, wont at all be missed.

# 220 rangerrick012 @ 06/12/10 12:45 AM
Co op online team play tells me enough about where EA's priorities are. Franchise players are always going to be ignored from this point forth, that's why I don't buy EA's "we'll have it next year" for Franchise Mode. As long as online remains a top priority, Franchise will never be what we Franchise players want it to be.
