BTW I had a guy using the Oilers against me just dominate. He ended up dropping because of connection issues and I randomly got the W. I gained some rank spots. This tells me you get skill points when your opponent quits.
Yeah, something's not reporting right at times though. When I finish games, even though I win, I will drop. I won all my games last night, and I went from 31 to 32, back to 31, and up to 32, back to 31, and up to 32 again. I dropped from 32 to 31 twice, and both times for winning the game. I think something is wrong with their math for determining the outcome of a win.

You might have to factor in if the level is relative to how other people are doing. Maybe it doesn't just simply increase based on wins.

As soon as anyone does the nose tackle glitch I just quit. No cheese for you!

I've only encountered that once so far and having a blast playing this online.
For such a simplistic game (only 8 plays) there's alot of strategy involved.

FYI Montana on the Chiefs is a stud.

Played a few online games last night and i had some lag, had a hard time playing. Anyone else having lag issues?
Otherwise I am really enjoying this game, great job tecmo. Just beginning to edit the names of the rosters making them equal to the SNES version, 5 done so far. Only thing is I am not doing is offensive line. never see there names on feild anyway except maybe a fumble. Takes me about 10-15 minutes per team. Hopefully they could fix the lag issues and put some playbook change online.

I'm with you on that. I am undefeated and unscored upon when I host (in 2D). I just dominate.

I joined one game today...it was in 3D...and I lagged terribly...and I lost 21-3. I would be fine going the other directions (right to left), but when you hit up, and your guy moves up 1 second later, that's deadly in a game where 'twitch' movements are necessary. Same with the passing game: you love to lock on one receiver, and then hit 1-2 quick presses to get to the receiver you want to throw off the D...no dice. No reaction due to the lag.

I would be interested to hear what everyone's record is in host vs. join games due to lag. Hopefully Tecmo addresses that in their "patch" that they're doing for the quitters soon.

Yeah thats kinda my problem there is a second delay, hopefully they get it fixed. I will have to try just hosting games.

Is the only way to play this game online?

No, there's offline multiplayer and offline season modes.

I'm adjusting to the lag, but I do agree it's a nuisance. I'd at least like to have BOTH users lag. I've played some inferior opponents who were able to shake me because I couldn't react in time. If that same opponent had the lag reversed, he wouldn't score.

Hey CK-I knew about offline, I'm just asking does the AI make offline worthwhile?

I'm the wrong person to answer that because I'm basically an online only player. If this didn't have multiplayer I wouldn't play it... but that's with any game for me.

I've nearly finished a nice little strategy guide blog for the game. Broke it down into:
  • Clock Management
  • Special Teams
  • Passing
  • Rushing
  • Defense
  • Intangibles
Turned into a massively long blog. I might ask Steve/MMChris if they want to use it as an article. I know they've had other strategy articles from other sites posted on OS before.

POST THAT ASAP! I need help with passing... it's counter-intuitive at times.

My record is 9-0 now with New England. Just beat Buffalo, and the only reason I pulled it off is because it was raining and they kept fumbling. Otherwise I never would've been able to shut down Thurman Thomas. I swear, when he breaks into the open field, he's gone. I made him fumble on two long runs that would've killed me if he scored. Won 17-7.

The more I play this game, the more I like it. I like how unpredictable the action can be at times.

... still having trouble hitting receivers in stride though.

# 234 TheWatcher @ 05/02/10 02:07 PM
Oh yeah, I'm also up to 22 sacks in 9 games with "Robert Bonner" at Middle Linebacker, and I also have 13 safeties! I have the #1 defense and the #23 offense. My offensive game sucks now.

Is there an option to watch the computer play? Also, if there is a coach mode how does it play? Is it similar to All Pro's coach mode. Last Q, what system is this game for. Thanks for the help

This is definitely different from the NES game, as people have said, I rarely see a long pass to an open reciever in stride. I dont know if its random or what. And yes these are on fly patterns.
Yeah I make pretty good reads, but my QB consistently throws the ball short into coverage and not over their head. It's a tough adjustment to make for me. I'm used to hitting the open guy deep and really making my opponent pay. That can still happen, but it's definitely not automatic like in the NES version. This game really puts a clamp on deep passes.

Don't get me wrong, I've made some gorgeous deep throws, I just can't make them every single time a guy guesses run and I have a deep pass called. That's probably a good thing. I need to learn to be willing to lob deep bombs into coverage to a good WR being covered by a linebacker.

IF the menus are similar or the same as back then, yes. On the same screen where you set control for all the teams (they all start on SKP which skips the entire game if two SKP's play each other), you can set them to COM which will actually show that team's games. If you wanted, you could watch every game from the entire season like that.

Coach mode is also set from the team control menu, and it means you only call the plays and the CPU carries them out. So basically, the only control you have of the game is on the play select screen.

PS3/360

Again, that's all based on the old game - I don't have Throwback so I can't say whether it's exactly the same.

Deep passes in stride are possible you have to wait until the receiver is off the screen though.

I didn't play casual, but I did try it out, and I think the difficulty is the same, you just get to play more than one team on casual and can do coach/com on all 32 teams. The game definitely gets harder the further you progress in the season. I lost the championship game on my season mode 21-28 against Buffalo due to 2 fumbles. Something that's completely out of the gamers control. The randomness is what makes it football though!

The ability to select multiple teams is only available in Single Player - Casual mode.
