First off, Thanks Russ and SCEA for giving BP some major love. Overated? Guy bats 4th on the worst offensive team in baseball (not this year though) and still hits almost .280 with 20 Hrs, 98 RBI's and 20+ steals and SHOULD have won gold glove. Votto was out for a month +, Bruce 3 months, and he only had Rolen protecting him for 40 games. HE IS A STUD!!!!!

Secondly, his stance is incorrect, but its hard to duplicate. He wiggles his bat a ton and then slows it down before the pitch comes. Guys can fix his stance. No big deal.

Go REDS!!!!!!!!!!!

Both Zobrist & Utley had .989 Fielding %, Cano had a .984 Fielding % That's a difference of .5. Not exactly a big difference

Check this out, takes range into account as well as ability to catch the ball.

and for the guys that think it was a burn to ask me about pitching around Hill..I never claimed they did pitch around him..just saying the obviously would not pitch around cano with the Yankees line up..hope that helps
See above link for UZR/150 metrics. (In lieu of fielding percentage)

Hill's not BAD, Hill's not great.

He's average.

Fielding pct. isn't a good way to evaluate a defensive player. It just says how many errors were made. And errors are determined by the the hometown scorer. So there is a subjective side. That's bad enough.

Also it doesn't show how good a player is getting to the ball at all. If you don't get a ball, you can't commit an error.

You're right. Didn't do my homework and just looked it up for 2009.

For '09, I used Kotsay's stance...

I know there were a lot of changes for '10, but I fear that it's gonna be another mass-editing year once again...grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Seriously, Robinson Cano fans, let it go. Your team is rated first in the game. I don't think you should be that disappointed because he's not in the top 9.

I agree, it's a mistake, but you need to let it go. You can always edit the players. And if you're too lazy, there are people on this board who are known for editing players to the T.

Not to mention the game does tend to update quite frequently.

I ADORE these "top" threads.
I was going to watch Shutter Island...but I think I'll just wait for the SS and 3B threads!

I'd take a healthy Howie Kendrick over several of the 2b on that list

God, I love debating this stuff.

# 73 keymax @ 02/22/10 10:01 PM
Me too, as long it's backed up by statistical evidence and doesn't result into "my hometown player is better than yours because he is scrappier and grindier" - homerism, or stupid name calling

# 74 Mercury53 @ 02/22/10 11:17 PM
If there is one I truly don't like its this one. The third basemen, first and catcher were fine but I don't think these are very good. Utley is the best, no doubts there, but some of those I dunno about. Aaron Hill is very good, Jose Lopez has a good bat and so on. Whatever, no big deal really.

# 75 JoeCoolMan24 @ 02/22/10 11:37 PM
No love for Beckham. Sigh.....

# 76 Rob_NYY @ 02/22/10 11:54 PM
I wonder what Cano's ratings are like? Him not even being in the top 9 is ridiculous. In what world is Adam Kennedy better than Robinson Cano?

# 77 dickey1331 @ 02/23/10 12:06 AM
Uh for anyone saying Kinsler doesnt deserve to be 2nd obviously doesnt watch any Rangers games. Its good to see Kinsler finally getting some respect.

OVER RATED!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL you obviously dont know your stats. Hes the Third 2nd basemen to ever have a 30/30 year and the only player in baseball to hit 30/30 in 2009. The past 3 years outside of the Ballpark he is hitting .246 and a .745 OPS. Im sorry that a baseball player plays better at home...actually he plays better at Yankee Stadium. Also in 2009 Sporting News ranked him #24 of the 50th greatest current players in baseball. I can go on but for someone to say hes overrated doesnt know baseball.

# 79 Mr. Franchise @ 02/23/10 01:06 AM
My completely unbiased rankings:

1. Utley
2. Kinsler
3. Pedroia
4. Zobrist
5. Cano
6. Hill
7. Roberts
8. Hudson
9. Beckham
10. Lopez

god forbid a guy being better at home....take a glance at home/road splits of all the Yankees players, i'm sure you will find some uneven splits
